Industry

My design methodology is grounded in listening, absorbing and applying imagination to assess opportunities. It is a systematic and intellectual process that creates intention within a context of conflicting variables encompassing strategic innovation and going to market realities.

Think, imagine, communicate.

The first opportunity for companies and developers to differentiate themselves in the marketplace is to apply design process to capture and manifest user and customer value. Whether it be software applications or plastic parts - I strive for useful, usable and desirable results. I provide a value driven vision that provides a focus for multi-disciplinary development teams.

Education

I am dedicated to creating learning environments that enable students to thrive in the discovery and acquisition of new skills or knowledge. My experience ranges from single course design and teaching to program and curriculum design. I employ sequenced project based learning pedagogy, self-evaluation and team concepts to encourage deeper and meaningful experiences for students that inspire comments such as:

"I can't wait for next week."

"I worked more than I had to because it was fun."

"It is more like learning useful things for real life in Alan's class."

I have written a couple of papers on flexible learning in engineering education that you might find interesting...
