Italian Marina
This is an image I acquired in Italy some time back and it always had a grainy appearance which kept me from entering it in Salons. Recently I came upon an advertisement by a software manufacturer named Fo2PIX located in England. They offered trial downloads of their software and I downloaded one named Art Master Pro for a 10 time trial. I am impressed by this software and as you can see it eliminated the graininess by changing the image to a semi oil paint type finish. The program offers many more derivations that are of great interest but the catch is that by the time you convert the British price tag to US currency it would cost close to $900.00. The company offers many more programs, from a program named " Buzz" to lesser qualities of the Master Pro program. Please do not think I am an agent of Fo2PIX, I personally think the price is too steep but it is a wonderful program.

The graininess has been replaced by a smooth softness that is very atmospheric. The gull gives the image great impact. Well done.

A good composition with the position of the bird in an otherwise blank
area. The painterly effect is quite interesting, and I feel it suits the
scene. A touch too dark overall I feel, could it be lightened and a
touch more contrast added.

Yes on all counts to your comments (especially the nice software effect and the high price of the software). I like the image very much, wishing only for a bit more detail on the gull.
I was introduced to photography when I was eleven years old. My father pressed me into service at his photographic studio in Dallas, Texas. In a way I could claim to be a professional at that age because I processed film and helped in the darkroom along with other duties. I have been interested in photography every since. Although I have had several wet darkrooms in the past, I do all my images these days via the digital route.
