Many dog owners use Flexi-leads to get an extra advantage when exercising their dogs.  We at Ahava Beagles find them very beneficial and have been using them for years however we have always had the concern about dropping the handle.  Afterall, we are only human and stumbling and tripping happen!  When dropped, Flexi-leads begin retracting and “chase” the dog.  This is terrifiying to most dogs and they instinctively run to get away.  Yesterday, this happened to one of our dedicated and loving beagle families.  Sadly the leash “chased” their beagle onto a busy road and he did not survive.  Needless to say the family is devastated.  I am putting this caution up our of respect to them so no one else has to go through the sadness they are experiencing. 

If you use a flexi, PLEASE, find a way to attach a safety strap to your wrist so if you do let go, the leash won’t chase the dog.  As you read, the results can be tragic.
