for October 2001

The Appaloosa Horse Association of Alberta (AHAA) is pleased to introduce to you David Adams, winner of the 2000 AHAA High Point Games Horse with his mare CFS Dawn.  Quite impressive for his first year of showing on the Appaloosa circuit!

David is married to Janice and they have three children together: Nicholas, 18 years old, Ashley, 16 years old, and Anthony, 14 years old. David owns an electrical contracting business with offices in High Prairie and High Level, but he finds his work gets in the way of their real love, the horses.

David was born in England, and his family immigrated to Canada in 1967. Watching the Calgary Stampede his first year living in Canada was when David decided that someday he would have a horse and be a cowboy.  Now, after over 30 years, David has been asked to ride in the Calgary Stampede, making another dream come true.

David Adams with CFS Dawn David's love for the Appaloosa's beauty, color, intelligence, and disposition was started with his first horse, Frosty Feathers, one of two roan Appaloosas the family had purchased after realizing their dream of living on an acreage.

The years have taken the couple and their children to Red Deer,  Blufton, Grande Prairie, and Vancouver before they settled on the a quarter section near Valleyview that they had purchased from Janice's parents.  It was at this time when the opportunity to have another horse presented itself, and David knew he wanted an Appaloosa mare. CFS Dawn was purchased from Frank & Bonnie Keirle's spring sale.  Frank had told David that she was fast and had a mind of her own. David thought, "Perfect!"

In working towards his goal of raising Appaloosas, David began purchasing broodmares.  He is also now standing the stallion, OK Kingpin.  This stallion goes back to Rock Star and AcceleratorDavid said, "This stallion is beautiful and smart, but his biggest asset is his personality."  The gelding-like disposition allows Janice and the kids to handle and ride him, even with mares.

Instead of just watching their first Appaloosa show, they decided to jump right in and hauled both OK Kingpin and CFS Dawn to the Spring Classic in Olds last year.  Both enjoyed meeting all the Appaloosa people and found everyone very friendly.  OK Kingpin did OK despite the inexperience, but CFS Dawn made up for it with her competitive nature and determination by winning the high point games horse of the show.  David continued showing and garnered enough points to win the AHAA high point buckle, David's proudest moment to date!

David's future plans include qualifying for the World Appaloosa Show in Texas, as well as working towards being able to rely entirely on their breeding and training operation.

The AHAA is pleased to have new members like David and Janice jump in and get involved with all that this association has to offer.  With their determination and courageous attitude, we have no doubt that all their dreams will come true!
