What is High Velocity Water Main Flushing?
High Velocity Water Main Flushing is a systematic, planned cleaning of your water distribution system. Using the existing valves and hydrants, and a carefully measured flow of water, it is possible to clean rust and debris from the distribution system. This innovative new method of cleaning can, in some cases, replace the old system of pigging or swabbing of water systems.
One of the most common complaints by operators and customers alike is the quality of the water in the plant rarely matches the quality of the product at the tap. Many times, the water in the distribution system sits idly waiting to be drawn into the tap to be consumed. At times, during the course of the year, water treatment plant operators can readily identify water quality issues. Customers on the other hand see the results each and every time they turn on a tap. The common solution for municipal staff is to react to poor quality water complaints by flushing only in the area where complaints have originated. This type of reaction usually results in the water in another part of the system becoming disturbed and more complaints are called into the RM or town office.
If the preceding scenario sounds all too familiar, you owe it to yourself to learn this new process to benefit your resident customers. Turner Consulting is available to instruct your town or municipality staff in the value of a pro active approach to dirty water complaints.
