Privacy and Security StatementBeing an Advocate as well as a Mediator the subject of Privacy and Security is an important issue for me. Accordingly, we recognize the importance of protecting your privacy. If you join any of our opt-in lists, rest assured we will not share your private information with another party. We do not share or sell our lists so spammers beware and don’t bother contacting us. General Information: As a general rule please remember that any information disclosed in newsgroups, comments, guest books, feedback, chat rooms or any other hosted forums becomes public information. So please exercise discretion when deciding to disclose any personal information therein. Unless otherwise advised, we will assume that anyone who emails us to comment on this site is speaking “on the record” and doesn’t mind our posting its contents. Furthermore, we reserve the right to remove any comments or trackbacks that we deem inappropriate. Software: There are numerous software programs that will keep your computer safe and secure. I have provided download links for the essential ones which are listed on my home page under the heading of ‘Free Software’. You might also want to check out the links in my ‘Resources’ section for even more links. Logs: This site logs visits and transactions. Don’t worry - even your own ISP (Internet Service Provider) collects similar data. We collect the standard stuff - the type of browser you are using, time, date and pages viewed during your visit. This data isn't used anywhere but INTERNALLY. We only use this data to measure traffic statistics on this website. We don't share the specifics with anybody and we don't match individual users with their specific Web surfing habits. IP: We only use a visitor's IP address to help diagnose possible problems encountered on our servers. Cookie Jar: Cookies are not required to view our site and to our knowledge we don't give you cookies. From time to time we may use third party software or external organizations may advertise on our site. If you wish to know who these companies are please ask. They will vary on any given day and third party privacy policies are different from ours. If a cookie does come along that is beyond our control we don't use it for anything and you have our permission to delete it or turn them off altogether. Subscribing Safely: We only ask for your e-mail address. You don't have to give it to us - issues can always be viewed via the Web site or by subscribing to our RSS newsfeed. Subscribing to our RSS newsfeed does not require you to provide us any information. Having our newsletter delivered to your desktop is a convenience we provide much like having your newspaper delivered to your doorstep rather than going to the store to pick it up. In our case however it is free. Registration for our e-mail newsletter requires you to give us YOUR OWN email address. This is only used only for the distribution of our e-mail newsletters. The personal data is not shared with an outside party, and the subscriber database is not used for purposes other than for distributing the requested newsletter. Unsubscribing Safely: At any time you may unsubscribe by notifying us and we will remove your information. Links: Our site and newsletter may contain links to other sites. If you want to click it's your choice but we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these destinations. Contacting Us: When you send us an email we will try to answer it promptly. Messages relating to your account are treated as confidential. If however there is a problem and a message must be forwarded to another party the identifying headers will be removed beforehand. Changes to this policy: We will announce any major updates in this privacy statement or in the newsletter. Again, we don’t intend on ever sharing your information with a third party but if for some unforeseen reason we need to do so you will be contacted beforehand and asked for your permission.
