"Watercolor is a very demanding medium for an artist! Because you can't hide mistakes, any slip can mean the 'trash can' for a piece, no 'painting over' a mistake, as with oils or acrylics. Its lure, is light! If worked properly, light seems to emanate from within the painting. This effect is largely derived from the traditional technique of allowing the white paper to become the white areas of the painting. No white pigment is used for the highlights as in oil or acrylic. I prefer this purity and also have never used masking in my watercolor pictures.
