Walking
Beyond Borders Call for Volunteers: March 12, 10:30 a.m. - 12:25 p.m.

Ivet Bell, Gr. 12 Kits
student, Vancouver District Student Council is asking for volunteers to
support this special fundraiser at Kits:
District Student Council has issued a district wide initiative called
"Walking Beyond Borders" in which all schools are participating.
The event itself largely resembles the format of Africa Walk that took place
at Kits the last two years. Participating students will make a $3 donation to
be let out of block D (from 10:30 am to 12:25) on March 12th. We are hoping
to have the whole school join us in a walk to Kits
beach. The students will then return to the school for lunch, where we are
hoping to prepare a barbecue and some entertainment. All the money goes to
supporting Kits students to volunteer abroad in two orphanages (in Vietnam and Peru) over the summer. This
opportunity and the application process that accompanies it will be
advertised in April. The whole fundraiser is structured towards spreading
awareness for underprivileged children around the world in need of schooling.
It is very rare that fundraisers and school events are able to involve the
entire student population, but the success of this event in previous years,
the advertising campaign that has been launched, and the unfaltering support
from teachers leads us to believe that we may have all students joining us on
March 12th. We'd very much appreciate it if we could have some support from
parents in the coordination of this quite massive event.
Specifically, we would like to have some extra supervision on the walk.
More importantly, the teacher who did the barbecue last year is unavailable
on March 12th. We have a barbecue and the food, but we desperately need
someone to be the main chef. If you are interested in volunteering, please
contact me at ivet@ivetbell.com.
