PAC AGM
Update
|
|

|
Thank you to all parents who attended the PAC AGM on May
20. Elections to the PAC executive were held for the 2009-2010 school year
and the results are as follows:
Chair: James Burton
Vice-Chair: Lisa Herrera
Vice-Chair: Jacqueline Stoekler
Vice-Chair (Communications): Mary Chipman
Treasurer: Cathy Goodban
Secretary: Andrew Larigakis
The DPAC representative position was not filled. Elections for that office
will be conducted at the first PAC meeting of the new school year in
September.
Three amendments to the PAC constitution were debated and voted on. The first
amendment, which proposed strengthening the language concerning PAC financial
and legal signing authority, was tabled for further discussion in the fall.
The second amendment concerning expanding the PAC Executive to include the
CPF (Canadian Parents for French) representative was not passed; however, a
motion recommending that the CPF representative report at every PAC meeting
was passed. The third amendment, which would change the term of SPC parent
representatives from the school year to the calendar year, was passed. As a
result, elections for SPC parent representatives will take place in December
2009.
For more detail on the above, please consult the meeting minutes at http://members.shaw.ca/YHT99/kits-PAC-draft-minutes-20090520.pdf

PAC
Leases Reverse Osmosis Water Coolers
|
|

|
The KitsPAC received a very kind thank you note from
Mme. de Laigue, Environment Studies teacher, on its leasing of 5 reverse
osmosis water coolers for the school as recommended by the student
Environmental Club. Here is an excerpt of her letter:
Dear PAC,
I teach Environmental Studies and also sponsor the environmental club at
Kitsilano, and on behalf of all the students and the Administration I would
like to thank you very much for kindly providing us with the funding to have
5 reverse osmosis water coolers for the benefit of students!
This is especially appreciated as the initiative was entirely student-led,
culminating in the presentation by 2 students to the PAC meeting last month
(April). Mr Grant and I were impressed with the dedication of the students to
this project.
Teachers have long had access to a water cooler in the office, and the
students of the environmental club felt that it was only fair - and I agree -
that students also have access to free, purified water. Even students who
came to school in the morning with a full water bottle didn't have enough
water in the bottle to last the day. For a long time students had to either
buy bottled water (which is expensive and bad for the environment) or drink
from the water fountains (which they seldom do, and
I will admit that although I am not picky I do not like the taste of that
water). Our office nurse mentioned that she found students coming to see her
often dehydrated, and is thrilled with the new water coolers.
Since last week, thanks to PAC, students have access to 5 Aquapure water
coolers and the students love them! The 5 central locations are: Main lobby,
Gym, Haidaway store, near the counselling suite, and across from the
staffroom.
Students made posters recognizing PAC's contribution, and we have placed a
poster next to each water cooler. PAC has also been recognized in the daily
bulletin and there will also be a notice in the next Kitsalert.
Thanks again so much for supporting this important student-led initiative. I
was talking to Hailey, one of the students who presented at your PAC meeting,
and she told me the exact amount you have kindly agreed to put towards this
initiative is $1881.60, which will cover rental for 12 months of 5 water
coolers (since Aquapure is kindly not making us pay during the summer, this
will take us to November 2010, 18 months from now.

A Special
Message to Lord Tennyson Elementary Families
|
|

|
Did your
kids go to Lord Tennyson? If so, here's a special message from Lord
Tennyson's PAC:
Lord Tennyson Elementary will be honouring Mme. Nicole Roy who is retiring
after 23 years of outstanding work as our LAC teacher. The PAC will be adding
an 'elegant' gift and cards to the commemoration of her achievements. If you
are one of the many families that have been helped by her work and would like
to show your personal appreciation you can contribute by adding to the group
card, by leaving a donation in the brown envelope provided or by submitting
your own card. Just leave your contribution in the box on the principal's
door (it says "bonjour"). You can add to the group card by writing
a personal note on the colored sheets provided in the box for this purpose.
The deadline is Tuesday, June 23. The year end barbecue/slide show is on June
25th for those families/former students who would like to drop by. If you'd
prefer to send Mme. Roy a personal message by email, please forward it to
Coleen Gold at cgold@divisionzero.com
