School Renewal - Seismic Mitigation Committee

6-8 pm Monday June 23, 2008

Present: Diane, Tracy, Gwyneth, Andrew, Julie, Karen, Alex, Jacqueline, Larry, James

1. DPAC

.1 Jacqueline is DPAC rep for Committee II

2. Seattle visit? James to send out proposed time to visit

- potentially interested people: Gwyneth, Jacqueline, Alex, Larry, James

- Diane thinks Sutherland is also an example to visit - good suggestion;

- Mark (Kits parent, Sutherland admin)

3. Van Tech aspects to note

- Performance space

- Tech space terrific with good light; classroom space not inspiring

- lighting fixtures outside budget

- venting of systems can be made a virtue

- Tracy: educational facility with tech education strongly directed solution to go

for more space

- size of classrooms often larger than formula

- similarity to KSS in that it is a mish-mash of additions with poor organization

- funding seemed to expand beyond least cost option through PAC lobbying

Next Steps

Discussion

- work with VSB

- add to VSB options by suggesting other options

- open house timing to be determined - likely early October at the earliest, since

VSB waiting to hear from Province on supplemental funding

- need to expand input/understanding of parent community and larger community
