Fragrance Oils!

I took the plunge and purchased a couple of fragrance oils.  Why?  Because the combination of synthetic and essential oils often creates a longer lasting fragrance, particularly in homemade soap or in any product that might be exposed to air for a long time (potpourri, salts, powders).  I’m still a hardcore essential oil girl but *wow* these 2 oils are quite enjoyable.

Mango! Mango!    This is a straight mango that works well in any soap or mixed with fruit scents for a tropical surprise. Sure to transport you to far away lands with one sniff! It heats up in the molds a bit (CP soapers), so go easy on the insulation.

Energy A stimulating blend of Citrus, including Grapefruit, Lemon and Lime, with hints of fresh Cucumber and Jasmine, and a touch of Pineapple, Blackberry and Champagne. Energy is an exciting mix that's perfect for spring and summer.

Essential Oils

My latest purchases are Tangerine and Litsea Cubeba. Lovely!

Litsea Cubeba  litsea cubeba (China) - Also known as May Chang, it is used for a lemon, or a base note in more elusive citrus notes like orange, this is a lovely, uplifting essential oil. It can also be used to treat acne or put into face products for oily skin.  The fruits of the plant are steam distilled.

Tangerine  citrus reticulata (Spain) - Sweet and tangy. Tangerine oil blends particularly well with: Bergamot, Cinnamon, Clary sage, Clove, Frankincense, Lavender, Nutmeg and Neroli.  Tangerine oil could be soothing to the nervous system. It is beneficial to the digestive system, helping with flatulence, diarrhea and constipation and is a useful tonic for the skin and could help with stretch marks. The peel of the fruit is cold-pressed to extract the oil.

Recipes!

Congestion!

Mix 15 drops each Eucalyptus, Lavender, Rosemary, Tea Tree.

Mix these essential oils together and diffuse in your favorite diffuser. This blend can be used night or day. Can also be placed on a cotton ball and tucked inside your pillow at bedtime. If using in a child's pillow use only a couple drops.

If you would like to add a variation to the above blend you can add 15 drops of Chamomile - this will sometimes help for those types of congestion that produces a cough.

The above blend can be quite strong so start with a few drops at a time. Adjust as needed.

Cold & Flu

To disinfect the air in your home, blend in water and spray or diffuse:

10 drops Thyme, 10 drops Eucalyptus, 10 drops Lavender.
