SOLOMON ISLANDS:  West Are'Are, Malaita

I spent several months in the village of Narisisisi in West Are'Are, about 60 km south of Auki. Narisisisi is separated from its larger neighbour, Heo Village, by a small river that runs into the Are'Are Lagoon. From there, I made many trips to Su'u and Afutara, and other points north of Heo, and Hauhui and others to the south, mostly on foot, but once by tractor-trailer and once by canoe up the Wairaha River. Then there was a trip to Malu'u in north Malaita. These days the southbound truck stops in Su'u, so a visit to the villages farther south are reachable only by canoe.
