SOLOMON ISLANDS:  Outside Honiara, Guadalcanal

Since the tensions, and apart from Honiara, most of Guadalcanal was a no-go area for visitors, and in some areas were not all that safe for locals as well, particularly in the more remote areas of the Weather Coast. The "safe" area was the stretch between Henderson airport near Lungga Point all the way to White River at the NE end of Honiara itself. The following pictures were taken before the upheaval, as these areas were not considered safe to ramble around during my last two visits. However, these days things are on the mend since the arrival of the Australian RAMSI troops, and only travel to the Weather Coast is inadvisable.
