M4A3 E8 Sherman
This kit was my first real foray into
the world of scratchbuilding and AM parts. Built back in 1992, this kit started
with the Italeri Jumbo, which as already stated isn’t much of a Jumbo at all.
Starting with the turret, I used Verlinden’s update kit to change the turret to
an oval hatch and added a muzzle break to the gun barrel. The HVSS suspension
system is from MP models and was my introduction to indy tracks. The grab
handles and fender extensions were all build from scratch, a simple thing to
start scratchbuilding with. Once again looking back on this build, I can see
some rookie Sherman errors that I made but all in all it didn’t turn out too
bad and it did take first place in the local model contest. So not too bad for
the first major effort.
