Firefly Ic
Here we have DML’s Firefly Ic. This
kit has been OOP
for a couple of years now but I was
lucky enough to lay
my hands on one quite recently. This
kit was my
primary build for the FSM Sherman
Family Group Build.
It started out to be OOB, but that
changed quickly.
I tweaked the suspension a bit by
adding Grandt Line
bolt heads to various points on each
bogie. Bits and pieces
of PE brass detail sets from On The
Mark, Eduard,
Royal, and the kit’s PE parts were
added. The 17
pounder barrel is from Jordi Rubio.
Then the great
plan for a simple build went down the
drain. I was
also working on the Ram kit at the
same time, when
I came across a book on the South
Alberta Regiment
during W.W.II. The two kits were
combined into
the dio that is shown here on this
site. Soon, all the
detail that was added to the
suspension was buried
knee deep in the mud. The stowage box
on the back was built
with sheet brass so that it could be
mangled up a
little easier. The extended end
connectors came from the
new DML Firefly Vc kit.
The gunner figure comes from the new
DML
Firefly Vc kit with a head added from
an old
Airfix multi-pose figure. The
commander figure comes
from Ultracast and is one of the best
figures I have
ever seen. This was the first time
that I incorporated
figures into my build in over 10
years.
