Kits PAC meeting Sep. 19, 2007

Present: Ingrid Bjerkelund, Wendy Massing, Megan Swail, Marina Niks, Jacqueline Stoekler-Sihvonen and 40 parents

1.      Ingrid welcomed parents on behalf of the PAC

2.      Principal, Alex Grant spoke on the issue of class size and composition.  The numbers must be presented to the SPC as a legislated requirement.  There are some increases in special needs student numbers from last year which he wished to bring to the attention of PAC.  If PAC members have concerns they may contact kitsPAC@hotmail.com and their SPC members will bring them to the attention of the principal at their first meeting of the year on Oct 1, 2007 or they may speak to the principal directly.  Mr Grant also spoke on the issue of seismic upgrades.  There has been no change since last year except that the VSB person responsible for physical plant has been hired away so there will be a bit of a slow down while the new person learns the issues. District PAC will have a representative on a sub-committee of VSB Committee I.  Anyone wishing to put their name forward should contact kitsPAC@hotmail.com and we will be happy to put your name forward.

·        Parents raised the issue that many had not received their school e bulletin.  The principal will look into this.  Both the principal and PAC will look into setting up a way to sign up for the school’s e bulletin and the PAC e news from the website. Currently, parents can inform PAC that they wish to get the PAC e news by contacting KitsPAC@hotmail.com.

3.      teacher liaison with PAC, Gena Kolson introduced herself. She will speak at each PAC meeting to appraise us of the activities of teachers and classes at the school.

4.      Librarian, Giovanna Bombino spoke about the library catalogue and the library’s open door policy. All are welcome. She encouraged parents to come in and browse and introduce themselves to her.

5.      Ingrid announced that we have a new school liaison officer, constable Lynn Noftle and our new intervention specialist Jean Fourgere
