Wow, it has been almost a year
since the last entry. Where has the time gone? In any case there
is great news again. We have another winner of the Styria1840
map. It is Gerd C. Heil and he wrote: “after 5 years of
battling the grades in the Steiermark it finally worked out! I
must admit that I am a bit proud!”. Congratulations Gerd
and you have reasons to be proud. There are not many winners, at
least not that have come forward and let it be known that they
managed a win.
Well, the latest of RT3 was
released and it did seem to fix some of the worst issues for some
players. Very little was done, in my opinion, to make it a more
worthwhile playing experience. However, that has not stopped me
from trying to create a new map that is based on the developing
of the British Columbia (Canada) southern interior. The first map
will be centred mainly on the developing of the mining industry
in that area and the map following (I hope) will be a remake of
the RT2 KVR map. Both geographically will cover the same area but
in terms of time will start in 1898 and 1916 respectively.
One of the main motivations
for starting to create the maps was the observation that some
maps that I had seen simply were not very good as far as railway
operations were concerned. They simply looked bad and I wanted to
find out to what degree is it a game issue or a map creator
issue. So far I must say it is mostly a game designer issue since
it seems to take way too much effort to even just produce a
acceptable map. Many of the same issues we had in RT2 simply have
been passed on without much effort to correct them. In some areas
the 3D environment has created even more issues. In any case this
is an interesting experience revealing many of the issues
haunting RT3 and I have yet to start working with the writing of
events. I expect there is much more fun in store for me. More on
that next time.

Mxmtech just informed me last
week that he had a Gold medal finish on the Styria1840 map.
Congratulations!! Details are available on the “Styria1840
A lot has happened since the
last update with RT3 finally showing up in stores here late
October. That this new release was a great disappointment to me
is an understatement. To this day I still play more RT2 than RT3.
Hopefully when the new patch (1.04) is being released I will give
it another try and will then in more detail inform you of what my
impressions are then.

Wow, this is great news.
ScottT informed me of his Tycoon Gold win in April 1936 on the
V1.00 map. CONGRATULATIONS. This is the first Tycoon Gold winner,
as far as I know, since the release of the map. He also indicated
that the VV&E bug had minimal effect on his game. Ok now guys
how about the rest of you. Please let me know of your experience.
October 13, 2003
Well, I have posted the latest version of the KVR
map. This version (V2.00) has some bug fixes and plays a bit
different from the original version hence the 2.00 number.
Overall it should be a bit easier to play but frankly, it is
still a monster. Have not heard of anyone yet that had a Tycoon
finish since the map was originally released. Perhaps it is a bit
too much of a challenge but hopefully some will take on this
challenge and play the map to a rewarding finish. So far I have
managed to do this only once but am certain that other players
can repeat such win also.
You might very well be asking yourself why so
shortly before the release of RT3 am I bothering with this
upgrade/fix. All I can say is that it bothered me that some parts
of the map did not quite work out the way I envisioned it and I
wanted to clean the map up before RT3 robs all of my spare time.
In any case I do hope you have fun with the map and
please inform me of any remaining map issues.

Have added content to the section "Changes for
next Version" on the KVR page.

Due to the extended unavailability of the "Terminal"
as the sole source of the KVR map download site I have decided to
make the map available here at my site also. One of the reasons
of having it available at the "Terminal" was, besides
it being my favorite download site, the availability of a counter
to track the maps download popularity. It is fair to say that the
map enjoyed reasonable success by having had in excess of 100
downloads in less than six months.
In any case if you follow the above "The KVR
V1.00" link you will be able to find the download and a bit
I am also happy to report that another player
reported to have reached the Gold medal level. Ray has also
survived the years and managed to keep the KVR going. Hopefully I
will be able to provide some more details next time.

There is some good news to report (besides RRT3
being around the corner). I have been made aware of a Gold medal
winner on the KVR map. It is Gerd Heil from Denmark that hang in
it for the win. Congratulations to a job well done. I am somewhat
surprised though that with over 120 downloads from "The
Terminal" there is only one winner. I would like to hear
from you folks what it is that you find is preventing you from
reaching a medal.

Well, it is done. The Kettle Valley Railway map
V1.00 "A Second Chance" has been
forwarded to "The Terminal" to be added to their map
archive. In time I will also offer it here for download. As
always please feel free to offer your comments or suggestion by
sending me an email via above Feedback button. Would also like to
thank MrMathy, Ray, Gwizz and DaveG for their support,
encouragement and expert help to make it happen.
Over the next little while I will also make
available the most updated Guide and Hint manual under the above

It most certainly has been a while since the last
update. Even though I have spend a lot and I mean a lot of time
with the KVR map to get it ready, there is really very little to
show for. In any case, the latest version has been forwarded
again to a few people for testing and should you be interested in
participating in that, please use the feedback button above and
let me know where I can send the map to.
Many players, myself included, are expecting an
announcement soon from PopTop about (hopefully) RT3. So lets keep
our fingers crossed.
Any new Styria1840 medal winners out there? Trop me
a line with some information and I will add it to the Medal
