Kits PAC - Welcome!

The Kitsilano Parent Advisory Council (Kits PAC) extends a warm welcome to students and parents of Kitsilano Secondary School.

Parent Involvement = Student Success

Kitsilano Parents Advisory Council (Kits PAC) includes parents and guardians of all Kitsilano students.  Our goal is to encourage more involvement by parents in activities at the school in order to provide the best possible education for our children.  Our diverse and talented parent body is an important asset and our participation in school events enriches our school community.

Kits PAC invites all interested and caring parents to attend monthly PAC general meetings. Held alternately on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, these gatherings are a chance to both listen and to be heard.

Coffee and tea are served from 7:00PM and meetings run from 7:30PM sharp to 9:30PM in the 3rd floor Staff Lounge.

Kits PAC meetings are an opportunity to socialize, to learn more about the school and to discuss issues of concern to parents, students and staff.  Guest speakers from our teaching staff are a highlight of each meeting, and give us an opportunity to expand our connections with our staff.  Parents are encouraged to bring issues or concerns to PAC for discussion.

Check the Meetings section and mark the dates in your notebooks, PDAs or calendars!

On April 15, 2002 new legislative changes in the School Act outlined School Planning Councils that formally acknowledge the importance of parental involvement in improving student achievement. School Planning Councils are intended to formalize the role of parents in all BC schools. Each school has formed a School Planning Council, comprised of members of the school's administration and teaching staff as well as parents.

Kitsilano Secondary School Planning Council is an advisory body, and its major responsibility is to consult with the school community in developing, monitoring, and reviewing school growth plans for improving student achievement.

Three parent representatives to the School Planning Council shall be elected annually from the parents of students enrolled in the school, who are not employees of any school district.  At least one of the representatives must be an elected Officer of the Parent Advisory Council. (School Act, s.8.1(3)©, 8.1(4), and 8.1(7)).

What a great opportunity for all of us to have a voice in our children's education. Don't miss out.

Kits PAC holds regular meetings to provide a forum for discussion and interaction with other parents and with staff. Parent representatives take Kits PAC concerns to the School Planning Council for discussion and planning.  Kits PAC also hosts Parent Education evenings and supports school events throughout the year.

Parent involvement provides a beneficial sense of community for our students.

Kits PAC communicates with parents via email and in the Kitsilano school newsletters.  Our regular Kits PAC emails are a great way to keep up with what’s happening at Kits.  Also check the Kitsilano school  E-bulletin sent by email.
