Kits House Leadership
Training Programme
Each year the Association of Neighbourhood Houses of Greater Vancouver offers
a Youth Leadership Training Programme for high school students in grades 10,
11 and 12. The 10 week program runs from January to April 2005 and
involves weeknight activity sessions and weekend trips. The programme
prepares students to become activity leaders for children's programmes at
Neighbourhood Houses and other community agencies.
Youth will learn such skills as programme planning, safety, group handling,
and behaviour management. In addition, youth have the opportunity to
gain skills in canoeing, rock climbing, shelter building, outdoor cooking,
and snowshoeing as well as obtain certificates in food safe and first aid.
The programme includes theory sessions, outdoor activity workshops, volunteer
work with the children's programmes and direct leadership of the Spring Day
Camp at Sasamat Outdoor Centre. Meetings are held once a week with one
or two weekend field trips to Sasamat Outdoor Centre per month.
The strength of the leadership programme is the combination of weekday evening
learning sessions as well as hands on experience on the weekend trips.
This programme does qualify as credit for CAPP Hours.
The programme begins on January 25th and costs $15.00 plus cost for field
trips that vary between $10.00 and $65.00. (Financial assistance is
available.) To register contact Wei-Wei at Kits house 604-736-3588 or
