Improving Awareness of Code
of Conduct Among Parents
At the School Growth
Planning Day - Thurs. April 7, 2005, for the goal:
The school community (staff, parents and students) will demonstrate through
action the understanding of the Social Responsibility Goal of "respect
for self, others and the environment."
the school was working on a Code of Conduct.
The parents put forward the goal of improving awareness of the Code of
Conduct among parents.
Notes from the work on this goal:
Want Parents to know the code of conduct exists and:
1. it is important to encourage their students to follow this code.
2. it is important to support teachers in their efforts to have students
follow the code.
What things parents can organize to do to ensure that the results parents
envision will occur?
- fridge magnets
- highlight on PAC web site
- include/highlight in grade 8 info to parents
- 'message of the week' in PAC e-mail news that will be positive comment
about performance of students in Code of Conduct area
What is the result parents want/need?
- ie. if teacher advises parent their student has not met a code of conduct
requirement and will have a consequence - parent will support or at least
know this is an agreed to system of the school. Like a parent might disagree
with a road stop sign - but that is the system.
Estimated time required for this goal.
- perhaps a one school year effort, then review or survey teachers/students/parents
to see if there is a sense the awareness has improved, and if so has this
helped - do teachers feel there has been better support?
Resources Required.
- 'Message of the Week' PAC Volunteer to contact the school to find out
where the students have recently done well in the code of conduct area to
prepare positive message for Kits PAC e-mail news. At the April 7, 2005 School Growth Planning Day meeting, parent Janet ? volunteered
to to do this job.
Staff and Professional Development Required/Desired.
- Staff/Professional to communicate with 'Message of the Week' PAC Volunteer
to identify where students have recently done well in code of conduct area
to prepare positive message for Kits PAC e-mail news.
