Cuba Trip 2004-5

Teacher M. Raoul (from French immersion - retired June 2005) usually organizes a student trip to Cuba in March each year. Spanish teacher B. Hoppen also went on this trip. Students do volunteer work while in Cuba to support a community. Students also organize to collect and deliver needed items ( like donated used computers )  to a community in Cuba.

From the E-Bulletin to Kitsilano Parents for the week of April 4th, 2005.

Welcome Back from Cuba!

By all reports, the trip to Cuba was a resounding success.  Students and their teacher sponsors Mr. Raoul (from French immersion) and Ms. Hoppen (teaches Spanish) returned Saturday evening and Mr. Raoul said they were the best groups of students he had ever traveled with.  He said that they traveled as a group and yet respected individual needs and acted responsibly at all time.

Mr. Raoul says he hopes the Cuban experience was both a source of learning and enjoyment. Two weeks in Cuba is enough to ask questions and remember, that is more important than coming up with quick answers.  All the students, parents and teacher sponsors should be thanked for their time, dedication in accessing computers, pencils, clothing, shoes, to take approximately 72 boxes with them for the Cuban people.  Also, a huge thank you to teacher Mr. Singh for helping ensure the computers were in working order!

Students sell Fair Trade Coffee at various events at the school to raise money to help a community in Cuba.
