Hourly Rate $12.50 at my place and depending on the job, minimum $25. $25 per hour outside of my home, such as at your place. Inexpensive flat fees negotiated fairly. Quotes in advance. No worries, no hassles. Service in your home ($25/hr, at your and my convenience) or leave your machine with me (preferred, $12.50/hr). I am usually unable to do immediate work; I can usually fix things in a few days.

Concept and philosophy of this hobby business

I like computers and computing just as lots of people do. Software and hardware have equal appeal. But personal computers can be arcane and frustrating. It's not fun if you can't see what to do. I like to fiddle, solve these problems and make things work right. It's a pleasure to help others make their computers work the way they want. This is definitely a hobby for me. It is not volunteering and it is not a business-for-profit. I charge some money to cover expenses like gas and mileage so I can buy something for myself, like soda pop or a better video card. I aim to charge something for my time but less than half of what the service would cost commercially. I also take into account the value of the machine I am working on. One must not spend more on the service if it would be better to save the cost and buy a new machine. Much of my enjoyment comes from ensuring the customer perceives good value in the service for the price. My training and experience comes from owning and upgrading personal computers since my first personal computer (TI-99/4A) in 1982. I have one university programming course. Now I make daily use of more than one computer workstation at home and work. Call me if you're uncertain what you need; a little telephone advice is free.

TeamViewer remote assistance (free unless we have discussed otherwise)

TeamViewer works well for remote assistance. You must be running the free TeamViewer QuickSupport client software for me to connect to your computer. You can download the TeamViewer QuickSupport client from http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx or by clicking the Download TeamViewer button below. Note at their download page it is not the first download listed (which is the full version) but the second. The first listed is the full version. You want the QuickSupport. I had to scroll part way down the page to see it. Once running you give me access by telling me your TeamViewer ID and Password.

Step-by-step instructions for TeamViewer remote assistance:
1. Click the "Download TeamViewer" button below to download QuickSupport. Save it somewhere easy like your desktop or where you can find it. The file name is TeamViewerQS.exe (2.2MB). If the button below doesn't work you can download TeamViewer QuickSupport from their web site http://www.teamviewer.com/download/index.aspx.
2. Run or Open this file TeamViewerQS.exe. It does not install anything.
3. Tell me your TeamViewer ID and Password as reported in the TeamViewer QuickSupport window. Telephone me with this if we are not already on speakerphone.
4. Done. Leave TeamViewer QuickSupport running. Wait for me to remote access your computer.
5. The ID is permanent but the password only valid for this session. I cannot access your computer in the future without you there as TeamViewer QuickSupport needs to be running and the password changes each time.
