Wow!!! This is the most fun when it comes to building a wardrobe. After all, trends come and go from one second to the next. I recommend you have fun with accessories. You can make a basic wardrobe look new with just a change of a scarf, shoe, purse or glasses. So I hope you find the following tips invaluable.
Glasses
Big framed glasses are back in style, can we say halleluiah!! This is great for transsexuals and crossdressers I know it is has been especially difficult to find female glasses for some time that fit some larger heads. What I have done is look at good quality sunglasses and change the lenses to my prescription. It can be done. Really!!!
Scarves: A Transsexual's Best Friend
Scarves are absolutely fabulous after all they keep us warm and they can accessorize an outfit. It can dress up or dress down an outfit. They come in different shapes, sizes and materials. It will hide a transsexual's and crossdressers Adams apple. Even during the summer months after all one can not run around in turtle necks in the summer. In the summer I would use a light silk scarf then I am not running around in a pool of sweat.
When choosing a scarf be sure to pick one that is equivalent to your body size. A smallish scarf on a larger size person will bring attention to this area and will look disproportion. Also you may want to consider something in a neutral tone especially if you do not want it to be your focal point.
Crossdressers and Transsexuals Put Their Best Foot Forward with the Right Shoes
Flats, pumps, heels and boots that are meant to walk all over others. First of all, a lady can never have enough shoes. Do you not agree? There are so many companies out there to buy shoes from. I use to always buy shoes for the sake of the look and because the Fashion Industry dictated that was the look of the year. Unfortunately, most of them ended up at the Sally Anne. Now I tend to look at quality of the shoe and the heel. I ask myself "Will I be wearing this next year?". If the answer is yes then I look at it as an investment piece.
Today I look at the practicality of it all. I see so many companies selling shoes over the internet. Which is great for those people that live in rural areas. I also see that most of them are made from man made materials. One of the problems with man made is that they never stretch. Other problems is they will crack, peel and generally break. I prefer buying shoes that are made from leather. With leather it will stretch and have some give to it. You also can protect them from the environment with a wide variety of products that are available everywhere.
Contrary to what I have said about the worst times to shop. The best time to buy shoes is at the end of 'a long hard day of being on your feet'. Once you have taken your shoes off at the end of the day your feet will expand. At this point you are likely to pick a correct size of shoe that won't be when you are wearing them. There is nothing worse to ruin an evening on the town if you can't stand the shoes you are wearing. I would also recommend that you start with a lower heel. Then work your way up to a higher heel. Remember Sashay and be FLAW-less!! Happy shoe hunting.
Purses: Clutching the Transsexual's Dreams
Once again a woman can never have to many purses. As my wonderful husband always asks me "How many black purses do you need?". I will let him know when I am on my death bed "Not Enough!". I am so glad to see that envelope clutches are coming back into style. They are so beautiful and elegant they remind me of the days of 'Dynasty'. They are sleek and not so bulky.
During the day I will carry a larger purse because it will hold my day planner, wallet, gloves, keys and what ever else that I may need for that outing. Be careful not to carry around all of your make-up, only what you need for touch ups. Unfortunately blushes plus other compacts tend to break and make a horrible mess in your purse.
Purses with shoulder straps are great but there are drawbacks to take into consideration when purchasing them. People with sloped shoulders should not purchase them because they tend to sliding off the shoulder. If you are going for a more casual look put it over your neck as long as the strap is long enough. Another warning DO NOT buy purses with any type of chains that are used for straps. They always break no matter how delicate you are with them.
Small evening bags I tend to collect because I will always have something for any occasion. Regardless if I am attending a simple little dinner or night on the town. I can always keep it on hand and I can always keep it in sight.
Gloves: Keeping the Crossdresser and Transsexual's Hands as Warm as Their Hearts
Leather Gloves during the fall and winter months are great for disguising larger wrists. It is usually difficult to purchase ladies bracelets that are big enough for larger wrists. When buying gloves try a size nine to start at and then work yourself up or down as needed. To find out your glove size, measure (in inches) around your hand, below the knuckles with a tape measure. You should use your dominant hand, the right if you are right-handed, and the left if you are left-handed.
Small = 6 - 6.5 inches is usually equivalent to a small or a size 6 - 6.5
Medium = 7 - 7.5 inches is usually equivalent to a medium or a size 7 - 7.5
Large = 7.5 - 8 inches is usually equivalent to a medium or a size 7.5-8
X Large = 8.5 - 9 inches is usually equivalent to a medium or a size 8 - 9.5
It varies from manufacture to manufacture, at least this will give you a starting point.
