Sunday September 3rd, 2006:

The Winner of the Edmonton CCRPA Derby presented with the winning check for $10,000.
Congratulations Gerry Yeatheard!!!!OK

Now that we have officially finished the 1st Edmonton Capital City Derby, The Club thanks all the Participants for entering. Overall, we could not ask for a better day as far as the turn-out of people at the Goodchild's. The hosts, the weather, company of people and food were fantastic. And yes let's not forget our pigeons as this is why we have come together.
Out of 81 birds shipped to the race we had 44 birds come back by 7:30 PM. We are sure that most will be back tomorrow, but on this unusually calm and hot day in September the birds had to work hard to make it back at the time they did.

Here are the results and few pictures from the event.
The first 20 birds are in the prizes and the 1st is the $10,000 winner.

August 15th:
Birds went to Vermilion, 110 miles, this past weekend.

This up-coming weekend, Saturday August 19th, the plan is to send the birds to Loydminster. For this toss, if you wish you can add a bit of excitement. For those wanting to, you can put-up $10/bird. The entire pool will be split 50/30/20 to the first three birds. If you are interested, call Fred (780) 973-4614

August 10th:
Weather permitting the birds will be released 110 miles this up-coming weekend.

July 22nd:
Birds released 35 miles away and returns at 100%. To-date the birds had 12 tosses. Three from 30 miles, three from 25 miles and shorter. The injured birds were back on the wings this morning from a shorter toss.

The plan is to have the birds to Viking (~65 miles) by next weekend and then have them fly from Wainwright (120 miles) in two weeks.

July 15th:
Birds released 25 miles away and returns at 100%.

Note, 7 birds held back as they did come bruised from the last toss. At the time the birds did split. The smaller group came first (~20 birds) and the larger (80+) missed the loft and came about five minutes later. The injured birds did come a little later. We will take an inventory next week.

July 9th, 2006:
Today's toss from 5 miles away with a strong SW wind. Birds released in smaller groups. None of the groups circled at all and returns are at 100%. We will plan on increasing the distance ever so slowly every day for the next 5 days and plan to have them to 25 miles by next weekend.

July 8th, 2006:
Today we will gradually begin training the birds. Today's toss was from  3miles away.
It took the birds 20 minutes to come home. All birds are back

July 3rd, 2006:

  • All birds are loft flying anywhere from 45-60 minutes.
  • At this stage all birds appear very healthy. However, we did loose seven birds to YBD.
  • Training is scheduled to begin next week.
  • As we increase the distance we will regularly provide update on the results of the training tosses.
