Well, so much for easing our way into winter. It is precisely this type of weather that reminds us of the hardiness of prairie folk. I must confess I would have made a lousy pioneer, especially when it comes to indoor plumbing this time of year. As we approach the halfway point of Advent, I hope this newsletter finds you healthy, happy and able to find quiet time to reflect on the meaning of the season we are about to enter.
Please keep in mind our upcoming New Year's Eve dance. Happy hour begins is from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm with dancing from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am. The Rhythmaires will be the entertainment. There'll be a late lunch and party favours and snacks provided. Cost is $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door. Ticket sales have been brisk so get yours soon either from the parish office or from the people listed on the poster in the Knights showcase in the welcome area.
Our next parish breakfast will be on January 31, 2010 following mass. Prices are same as always: $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for children over six years and under six free. Come join us and break 'pancake' together.
Family of the Month for October was Brian and Kathy Doepker and for November Doug and Leona Reagan. Congratulations and thanks for your continued work in our parish!
Our Grey Cup party was a great success. We were able to raise $673.50 for the Bosco Homes Farm School. Except for the outcome of the game, it was wonderful way to spend the day. Thanks to all who attended and donated time and money to this event.
Knights of Columbus In Support of Life Dine, Dance and Auction will be held on February 6, 2010 at St. George's Hall. Purchase tickets before January 12th and have a chance to win a limo ride to and from the event. Tickets are $27.50 person which includes supper and dance. For tickets contact John Cook @ 477-1748 or Louis Roth @ 249-2764 or one of the Knights here. This is a great event and all in support of life.
To all brother Knights--Membership letters will be sent out shortly. Please review and submit your membership dues as soon as possible. As a council, we are required to pay dues to State and Supreme on your behalf so if you wish to remain a member, it is imperative to pay your dues in a timely fashion.
Keeping Christ in Christmas magnets will be on sale before and after masses during Advent at a cost of $5.00. These are great for vehicles or even just stick on your fridge. I know every time I see one of these little reminders during the busy holiday season, it gives me cause to slow down and remember the true meaning behind it all. Advertising that to the person driving behind you is the perfect way to bring Jesus back into the limelight.
Just a Thought--It is so easy to get caught up in the hype this time of year. The perfect Christmas mass, the perfect feast, the perfect gifts--it can tend to drive us to attain the impossible. Last time I checked, there was only one perfect Christmas and that took place in a stable. Give yourself a break and just enjoy the greatest gift of all--the birth of our Saviour.
