I.33 Schutzen vs Secundus Custodia Royal Armouries I.33 is the oldest surviving (circa 1300) manual on the art of fencing. Like many surviving manuals, it is probably an aide-memoir, or possibly a series of lesson plans. It is written in Latin with some Germanic words and was discovered in a monastery. This makes it a snap-shot in time of how the single hand sword and buckler was used. However art of the Middle Ages show similar stances up to the 15th century. Equipment required: Gloves Single hand sword Buckler Rapiers can be used for sword and buckler classes. The only defences of the sword and buckler that cannot be performed in SCA rapier combat are the grapples. There is some loaner equipment available. Training has moved to Esquimalt Recreation Centre fall and winter programme. Please contact Esquimalt Recreation for space availability. The programme reads as follows: Western Martial Arts 28398 Thu Sep 17-Dec 10
