The son of Edward and Dinah Willis, he was born in Hoyland and enlisted at Hoyland on the 10th December 1915, he embarked Southampton on the 18th May 1916, he was wounded on the 1st July 1916, the 2nd October 1916, and the 30th May 1917, he returned home on the 9th August 1917, returning to France on the 22nd August 1917.
He was killed in action on the 13th October, 1917, while serving on the Western Front.
