The son of Thomas and Isabella Whitney of Nunnington, York and husband of Charlotte Emily Whitney of Grassthorpe, Newark, he was born in Nunnington and enlisted at Barnsley.
He was killed in action on the 9th October, 1917, while serving on the Western Front.
