Rowbottom. Charles W.

Was Born in Hoyland, on the 4th October, 1892, and eventually became a Miner at Rockingham Colliery, he lived with his father Ernest at 9, Kayes Street, Hoyland Common, and enlisted in the York and Lancaster Regiment on the 31st August, 1914.

He transferred to the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve on the 8th September, 1914 and joined Hawke Battalion, on the 2nd November, 1914, Crystal Palace Depot. and on 19th December, 1914, he became part of Drake Battalion and joined the roll of "B" Coy. on 8th January, 1915.  

He was rated Able Seaman on 1st March, 1915 and became part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Dardenelles and was killed in action on the 6th June, 1915.
