Merry. Ormonde
Was Born in Hoyland on the 9th October, 1889, and eventually became a Miner at Bullcraghillam Colliery, Doncaster, he lived at 24, New Village, Carcroft, Doncaster he enlisted in the York and Lancaster Regiment 1st September, 1914. His father William, lived at 6, Sale Street, Hoyland Common.
He transferred to the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve and joined Drake Battalion 6th January, 1915. He was rated Acting Able Seaman on 1st March, 1915 and became part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force in the Dardenelles.
He suffered much sickness and spent time in Hospital until 15th December, 1915 and was in the Reserve Battalion until 22nd November, 1916 when he joined Drake Battalion and the British Expeditionary Force on 12th December, 1916, he was reported wounded and missing 23rd April, 1917 and later reported dead.
