The son of Fred and Ann Lockwood of 89, Belmont Terrace, Milton, Hoyland, he was born in Barnsley and enlisted at Barnsley on the 26th August 1914, he joined the Expeditionary Force Mediterranaean on the 2nd July 1915 then joined the Expeditionary Force France , he was wounded on the 1st December 1916 and returned home on the 29th May 1917, returning to France on the 8th June 1917.
He was killed in action on the 29th September, 1918, while serving on the Western Front.
