Hill. Alfred
Was born in Leeds and lived in Elsecar, the son of Thomas and Alice Hill late of Rotherham and husband of Mary Jane Hill of 9, Backhouse Yard, Church Street, Elsecar, he enlisted at Darfield.
The 179th Tunnelling Company War Diary notes on the 29th July, 1916, that he was wounded by shrapnel while returning from trenches after relief, a further entry shows that five others were ranks were also wounded by artillery on the 6th October, 1917, when he died of wounds , while serving on the Western Front.
