The son of William and Clara Duke of 11, Elizabeth Street, Hoyland, he was born in Hoyland, lived in Barnsley and enlisted at Pontefract on the 7th August 1917 and joined the Expeditionary Force France on the 5th December 1917.
He was killed in action on the 27th January, 1918, while serving on the Western Front.
