Was born in Rotherham his wife Sarah Elizabeth Stephenson (formerly Ashmore) lived at 19, Carr Street, Hurst Cross, Ashton-under-Lyne (born Hoyland Common) he enlisted at Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire and died of wounds on the 23rd September, 1917, while serving on the Western Front.
