Moose Hunter

Description Screenshots User Documentation Settings Strategies & Hints

Description

No too long ago I realized that none of our games had any real Canadian content. "Moose Hunter" is my answer to that!

It's moose hunting season! Time to grab your rifle and hit the woods, hoping to bag yourself a freezer full of moose! You will occassionaly spot your prey but moose move randomly about until they leave the woods through an opposite corner from where you first spot them. Beware though, the woods are also home to wolves and bears!

This game is played in a gridded wood. The moose starts in one corner and will randomly make its way to another corner where they then wander away. You start out along one edge of the woods and move North, South, West, and East a number of moves per turn. Wolves are also in the woods, following the moose, and the bears wandering about are very dangerous to encounter. After you have moved you will be told what's in the woods around you and you will have the opportunity to use your rifle to try and shoot the moose.

A game turn follows these steps:
1) Spot prey (maybe).
2) Movement.
3) You look around.
4) You may shoot.
5) Repeat.

Good luck! And happy hunting!

Moose Hunter User Documentation

After the initial splash screen you are presented with the main menu:

[Continue] Will only appear when there is an interrupted game in progress.
New Game Starts a new game to play.
Instructions Explains how to play Moose Hunter.
Stats Game stats are kept for each person that plays the game.
Settings Customize the game to make it easier or much more of a challenge.
Story A short descriptive background setting for the game.
About Displays game name, version number, and vendor (Everywhere Games).
Exit Quits the game.

Use the movement menu to move North, South, East, or West. If you Stay Put then you give up all other movement for that turn. You can shoot North, South, West, East, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, or Southeast. If you get the moose you win! If not, well, try again, but be very careful wandering about alone in the woods.

There are a number of game settings to give Moose Hunter maximum customizability. These game options are:

Setting Description Default
Player Name This is the default name for Stats. "Player"
Sounds Turn sounds off if they get to be too annoying or when it is necessary to be quiet and not disturb anyone. On
Woods Size 10-25. How large of a forest do you wish to explore? 10
Player Moves 1-4. For a tough game, move only 1 square per turn. Moving 4 squares per turn will get you to the moose faster, but be careful that you don't startle them. Scared moose are very dangerous! 2
# Bullets 1-9. How many bullets do you have in your rifle? 9
Rifle Range 1-9. How many squares does your rifle shoot? 2
# Moose 1-3. How many moose do you want to hunt down? You have to get them all in order to win the game! 1
# Wolves 1-3. How many wolves following the moose do you want? They will be assigned one per moose. If there are more wolves than moose then some moose will have more than one wolf after them. If there are more moose then some won't be being chased by wolves. 1
# Bears 1-3. How many bears do you want wandering through the woods? 1
Hard Mode Turning Hard Mode off turns on the coordinates so that you know the position of the moose in the woods. On

Clear Stats Erase all the game stats.

Strategies & Hints

  • Play with the game options until you find game settings that make for a fun game that you enjoy playing.
  • My preferred method is to take two moves early on to get to the centre of the forest then only take one move per turn there-after to slowly approach the moose and then shoot when they are within range! It's good hunting practice to always be able to clearly see your target.
