PAC
Meeting: Wednesday, January 13; 7 - 9 p.m.; third floor staff room
7:00 p.m. mix & mingle; 7:30 p.m. business
Please join us for the first PAC meeting of the year! In addition to the
normal business, we will have a brief presentation by Pam Brewis, on behalf
of the Vancouver Children's Choir. We also hope to run the elections for the
three parent representatives to the School Planning Council (SPC) as we were
unable to at the December PAC meeting due to a lack of quorum. Please come
out for this meeting; otherwise, we will start the year without any parent
representatives on the SPC, which has much important work to do this year.

PARENT
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
On Feb 3rd between 1:30 and 3:30 all Grade 12 students will be presenting
their Graduation Transitions Plans to teachers, students and (we hope)
parents. To this effect, we would like to invite parent volunteers to come
celebrate the Grade 12's success with us. We are looking for up to 80 parents
to help create the 40 interview panels that will listen to all 320 Grads in
these two hours. This is a great way to find out more about the Grad
Transitions Program all students have to complete before graduation.
For more information and/or to volunteer, please contact Mr.Mehl

The BC
College of Teachers is considering a proposal to require all new elementary
and middle school teachers to take a French second language methodology
course and or to demonstrate certain French language proficiency before being
considered qualified to teach in the BC public school system. This policy, if
approved, will have a significant impact on the quality of core French
programming and in the long-run we expect it will also have spill-over
benefits for French immersion programming. The BC College of Teachers (BCCT)
is currently seeking input from their members, stakeholder groups, and the
general public (i.e parents!).
We believe it is consistent with the objectives of our organization to fully
support any teacher qualification reform proposal which helps to improve the
accessibility of quality French second language instruction for all students.
Please feel free to respond to the BCCT survey with your thoughts. If you
feel strongly about this teacher qualification requirement issue feel free to
encourage other parents, educators, and or students to do the same.
