November 19 Open House: 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.; General Gordon Gym; 2896 W. 6th Ave

Have Your Say!

Background:

  • In 2007 the VSB presented proposals to rebuild the school to meet seismic upgrade requirements.
  • Parents were very worried that the result would be a smaller school, with fewer educational facilities for the children and no space for JKC
  • They successfully lobbied the VSB and BC Premier Gordon Campbell
  • A new planning process was agreed, the 'Neighborhood Centres of Learning and Development Pilot Project' (NCLD); General Gordon is one of three schools taking part in the pilot
  • The final design is not decided; possibilities range from full replacement, to complete renovation of the existing school, or something in-between

The Open House, this Thursday, 19th November, 3pm to 7pm

The consultants will display information on boards, including:

  • what is the NCLD
  • feedback from a visioning process involving community and parents held in the Spring
  • information about '21st century learning'
  • possible designs for a new school.

Your will be asked for written comments, which will influence the designs presented to us in 2010.

Things to think about

  • what is important to you in any rebuilt school?
  • during construction, where will the children be taught in safety?
  • would a full replacement have the same, more or less space / facilities?
  • which design best reflects a commitment to sustainability?

TELL THE VSB YOUR PRIORITIES FOR THE NEXT GORDON SCHOOL
