Forever Racing

Introduction

After years of collecting, the Curator believes he has a complete collection of every car driven by Dale, in 1/64th scale, with the addition of a plethora of other memorabilia. This private collection is displayed out of case as it was not collected for resale. It was collected to gather a personal tribute to Dale Earnhardt.

While by no means an expert assessment, the Curator will give background details on each of the cars Dale drove. The Curator will also try to identify how the scheme changed from vehicle to vehicle (not as easy as it sounds with a car that spent most of its time being black). If a car is a special paint scheme or has special decals, this will help to identify the car. This will also help the Curator rearrange his collection if anything ever happens to shuffle it up.

The Curator cannot attest to all of the 'facts' held within this page, as many of them came from racing magazines, the backs of the 1/64th card's and other sources. The sequencing of the cars, specifically when the paint scheme first appeared, may also be slightly wrong as it is not always clear when the special scheme was run.

Pictures

Picture links will allow access to a view of the item within the collection. Many (95%) of the highlighted orange text titles are links to pictures, as are highlights within the descriptions. As you roll your mouse over the title, if it is a link, it will underline and there will be a picture. Recent changes include combining items in a single picture but then keeping the picture at a higher resolution.

Trophy Case

McFarlane Collection

Group shot of 5 McFarlane figurines featuring Dale in a winning or Championship pose or in uniform along pit road. Superior items with excellent detail, approximately 10" tall of resin composite. From left to right:

  • Goodwrench Uniform (Series 1): Shows Dale trackside in his GM Goodwrench uniform from 2001 (based on the Oreo logo on the uniform).
  • McFarlane Foundation Figurine(Daytona Pose): Dale Earnhardt figurine commissioned by Earnhardt Foundation. The pose is the one portrayed on the Legacy Elite Car, in front of a girder with a Foundation backdrop curtain. It resembles the Daytona 98 pose.
  • 7 x Champion - Dale and 7 Winston Cup Trophies: Dale in one of his more famous poses, surrounded by his 7 championship trophies. In this piece, even his sunglasses have a reflection so common to photographs of Dale. A flaw with the piece is that the trophies have not been well 'stickered' (i.e. the 90 series trophies show the old Monte Carlo, not the Lumina that was really on the trophy). A second flaw is that the figurine does not connect to the base evenly. I show it as if Dale is leaning on a trophy.
  • Coke Uniform: Shows Dale in his 1998 Motegi Coke uniform. An alternate version does not have sunglasses and, IMHO, poor facial detail. Capturing Dale's eye's never seems easy in sculptures; the glasses at least look proper. The figure has a girder with the Coke backdrop curtain.
  • Delco Uniform:Shows Dale trackside in Suzuka 100 uniform from the Japan race on November 24, 1996 (Post Season Race).

Championship Figurine Series

This series features Dale in the uniform of the time, holding aloft a championship trophy. Each piece also has a 1/64th championship car on an angled stand to the side. I do not believe the 90 and 91 seasons were ever made. From left to right:

  • 1980 Winston Cup Champion (1st) - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his plain yellow fire suit, holding the 1980 Winston Cup, his 1st Championship. The car is the 1980 Mike Curb Productions car that Dale used on Super speedways. The car is of higher quality than my other 1980 die-cast in that the front end is better detailed and Mike Curb clearly shows as a sponsor on the Rear quarter panel.
  • 1986 Winston Cup Champion (2nd) - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his Blue and Yellow striped Wrangler fire suit, holding the 1986 Winston Cup, his 2nd Championship. The car shown is the 1986 Wrangler Monte Carlo.
  • 1987 Winston Cup Champion (3rd) - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his Blue and Yellow striped Wrangler fire suit, holding the 1987 Winston Cup, his 3rd Championship. The car shown is the 1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo.
  • 1993 Winston Cup Champion (6th) - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his White and Black striped Goodwrench fire suit, holding the 1993 Winston Cup, his 6th Championship. The car shown is the 1993 Goodwrench Lumina.
  • 1994 Winston Cup Champion (7th) - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his White and Black striped Goodwrench fire suit, holding the 1994 Winston Cup, his 7th Championship. The car shown is the 1994 Goodwrench Lumina.
  • 1998 Daytona Winner - Dale, Trophy and Car: Dale, in his Goodwrench fire suit, holding the Cup from the 1998 40th running of the Daytona 500 held February 15th, 1998. This was Dale's 20th attempt and was the 50th anniversary of NASCAR.

Great Wins Series

8 piece series commemorating Dale's 25th Anniversary in racing, showing some of his landmark victories. The figurine has the fire suit, a picture of the winning car, and a replica of the trophy for the race. From left to right:

  • Great Wins 1; Daytona, February 15, 1998: Daytona 500 at Daytona International Raceway. It was his 71st win.
  • Great Wins 2; Charlotte, May 30, 1993: Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Dale was the defending race winner from 1992 Charlotte race and this was the first of two two-in-a-row races for Dale in 93. It was also his 55th win.
  • Great Wins 3; Indianapolis, August 5, 1995: Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It was his 66th win.
  • Great Wins 4; Talladega, July 31, 1983: Talladega 500 at the Alabama International Motor Speedway (aka Talladega). It was his 9th win.
  • Great Wins 5; Sears Point, May 7, 1995: Save Mart Supermarkets 300 at Sears Point Raceway, held May 7, 1995. It was his 65th win.
  • Great Wins 6; Bristol, April 1, 1979: Southeastern 500 at Bristol International Speedway, held April 1, 1979. It was his 1st win.
  • Great Wins 7; Darlington, April 4, 1982: CRC Chemicals Rebel 500 at Darlington Raceway, held April 4, 1982. It was his 7th win.
  • Great Wins 8; Charlotte, May 17, 1987: Not a points race, this win was for The Winston.

Starters Line Up Figurine Series

This series has Dale in various poses next to various pieces of equipment. From left to right:

  • 1997 Starters Line Up Figure: Dale, standing on a tire, with a little open faced helmet sitting on the tire. The helmet fits on the figurine but is too large so I have it sitting nearby.
  • 1998 Starters Line Up Figure: Dale sitting on either pit lane, or some such lane with a rail upon it. The helmet fits better on this figurine as it slots over the hat on the un-helmeted figure, quite convincingly.
  • 2000 Starters Line Up Rooftop Celebration: Dale, standing on the roof of the #3 GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo.
  • 1999 Starters Line Up Figure: Dale in his Motegi Coke Uniform (from 1998 or 1999 Pre-Season) standing on a tire and waving to the crowd, helmet at his feet.
  • 1998 Starters Line Up Figure (Series II): Dale with his hands in the air, obviously after a recent victory, with gloves in hand.

Starters Line Up Action Figures

A 9" dress up action figure in the 2000 uniform and an 11 1/2" dress up action figure in the 1998 uniform.

Turkey Hunter Series

A 1/18h action figure with Turkey and hunting gear.

Character Collectibles

  • An 8" sculpture from 2002, representing the 2001 uniform.
  • A smaller Xmas Ornament, from Wally and Dale, oddly has better facial features than many other figurines in the collection.

Victory

Daytona Victory Set (from left to right, back to front)

Daytona Victory Donuts: This diorama shows Dale's victory donuts from the Feb 15th, 1998 Daytona, with a special tilt motion card. Dales arm is sticking out of the window.

"After nineteen years, Dale Earnhardt finallywon the Daytona 500. The 1998 "Great American Race" was the biggest race in the history of NASCAR competition, where the winner claimed $1 million. Not only was this vindicating event a symbolic opening to NASCAR's 50th anniversary season, but it marked the last obstacle in Dale's quest to collect wins in all major stock car events. After driving past the unprecedented congratulatory pit crew line, Dale drove his car onto the grassy infield and spun his famous victory donuts - much to the delight of the record-size crowd."

Daytona Victory Lane: This diorama shows Dale in the Winner Circle's / Victory Lane on his 20th attempt at Daytona 500, which was also the events 40th anniversary. Dale is on top of the car, something that is no longer advisable given post race inspections for car heights in the x-era of NASCAR.

Daytona Pit Row Win 98: This diorama shows Dale's famous drive down Pit Road where the crews of ALL other teams lined up to congratulate him. He actually did not drive down the entire length of pit row, needing to pull into the infield and mess up the Daytona logo with some donuts.

"NASCAR's 50th celebration opened with "the most anticipated moment in the history of NASCAR racing". Triumphant Dale Earnhardt finally captured the Daytona 500 win after nineteen years. As Dale proceeded to Victory Lane, members of every team stood along Pit Road to congratulate the vindicated Intimidator. This victory toppled the last obstacle in Dale's questto collect wins in all major stick car events."

Lucky 1998 Penny: This lucky 1998 Penny, adorned with the RCR trademark #3, came with the Oreo Quarter. Commemorating the luck penny Dale glued to his dash.

Daytona 10th Anniversary COT: This 2008 release is a Car Of Tomorrow Impala sporting the Paint Scheme from Dale's 1998 Daytona Victory.

Daytona Victory Pose: This Diorama is of Dale in Victory Lane after the 1998 Daytona 500 in a relatively well known pose. Once again, this win is described as a fitting and symbolic commencement for the NASCAR 50th anniversary season

Dale Earnhardt claimed his first "Great American Race" in twenty years! After driving past the unprecedented congratulatory pit crew line and after spinning his famous victory doughnuts, the vindicated "Intimidator" pulled into Victory Lane and climbed onto the roof of his trusty No. 3 Monte Carlo. Car owner Richard Childress and team member Mike Skinner, among others, offered their ecstatic congratulations to the 24 year NASCAR veteran. This victory toppled the last obstacle in Dale's quest to collect wins in all major stock car events.

Jewel Case Collection

  • Platinum 7x Champion Collection: This boxed set also contains a set of 7 cars, one representing each championship year. Rather than Silver, the non colour parts (or for the Black cars, the reverse image portion, are Platinum (Chrome). Yet another new paint scheme for the 1980 in that the Angled Hood bears the name Mike Curb, not Wrangler or Hodgdon
  • Milestones in Racing: This boxed set also contains a set of 4 cars representing Dales 1st (Bristol), 25th (Bristol), 50th (Martinsville) and 75th (Atlanta) wins. The 25th car has the yellow replaces by brushed aluminium. The 50th win car is gold and the 75th win is Platinum.

Gold Plated Series Collection

Similar to the Silver Series, Matchbox / White Rose released a series of 'gold' plated die cast, at least one for Dales 6th and 7th Championships. Not as detailed as the Winner's Circle and being the blocky type of die cast familiar to Matchbox, they are less desirable than the Silver series. I have two; the 1993 6 Time Champion Lumina and 1994 7 Time Champion Lumina.

Silver Series Collection

In 1999, Dale Earnhardt celebrated his 25th year in NASCAR Cup competition. Winners Circle released 7 silver and chrome die cast, one for each championship. They are each surprisingly stellar in make, detail, and appearance. They are naturally the 80 Olds, the 87 and 87 Monte Carlo, and the 90, 91, 93, and 94 Lumina. The 1980 Olds stands out in that it has an unusual paint scheme; the name of the second sponsor (Hodgdon) is on the hood. The name of the other sponsor (Mike Curb) now has a smaller decal 'Productions'.

WINSTON CUP SERIES

2001 Cars

2001 Goodwrench Plus Monte Carlo: Dale was looking to capture his 8th Winston Cup Championship in this 2001 Monte Carlo. As with the 2001 Daytona car, the distinguishing marks on this decal scheme were the addition of a Blue Oreo decal under the Red Snap-On decal just in front of the rear wheel well. and the Burger King decal removed from the rear quarter panel. The Plus on the hood is Red on White lettering. Dale would score 134 points in the single race he ran this year. Dale never actually drove this car as it was the regular season scheme.

2001 Goodwrench Service Plus "Daytona Sonix" Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/64th Key Chain): The last car that Dale drove, for one final 499 3/4 mile race at the 2001 Daytona 500. The unique feature to this paint scheme was the presence of the Sonix logo on the rear quarter panel. The difference from the 2000 paint and decal scheme was the addition of a Blue Oreo decal under the Red Snap-On decal just in front of the rear wheel well. The Burger King decal is also removed from the rear quarter panel. The Plus on the hood is Red on White lettering. I had a spare so I made a key chain.

2001 Goodwrench Plus Oreo Monte Carlo: A special paint scheme for the 125's prior to the Daytona 500. The hood of this Monte Carlo had the Oreo Logo emblazoned across it. I did not particularly care for the car when I first saw it on the track, but the paint scheme has grown on me. This is the only Goodwrench car to have blue shading around the trim and familiar number 3. Also available in a cookie shaped Oreo Tin (Shown elsewhere).

2000 Cars (along the front)

2000 Goodwrench Service Plus No Bull 76th Win Monte Carlo: This is the standard 2000 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo with the No Bull $1 Million orange striping and numbering. This special collector piece has a donut on the left side and a wall rub mark on the right side. It is also distinguished by the orange no bull striping. This is the piece Wally Whump gave to the Curator to start the collection. Note that both Whump have agreed that crew chief Dwayne is to blame for the spending spree on these pieces.

"This car brought dale his 76th Win at Talladega in October of 2000 and marks one of the Intimidator's most amazing wins. On October 15, 2000, Dale Earnhardt took the checkered flag at Talladega, after being in 18th place with five laps left."

2000 Peter Max Monte Carlo: Another special paint scheme. This one honors Sam Bass who painted many of the special cars for NASCAR Drivers. Dale drove this for several races, but as I personally do not like the look of the car, I am trying to forget when. This is also the tech car item, slightly harder to get but with finer detail. The hood of this car will open. This is tied with the 1976 #30 Army vehicle as the 4th most rare piece.

2000 Goodwrench Service Plus No Bull - (From Car Kit): The car is for No Bull, but the paint scheme matches the 2000 decal system, right up to a NASCAR 2000 decal on the front right window frame. I was in Las Vegas in 2000 and Dale was not in the No Bull at Vegas that year (I have pictures), regardless of what others might state. This is different from the Talladega Win later in 2000 is that there is no front air dam on the roof as is visible on the 2000 Talladega No Bull 76th Win car. Dale drove the Taz No Bull, the Talladega No Bull, and apparently one other No Bull race that year. I have been given to believe the car may be from Richmond. A picture of the kit is linked above.

2000 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo (2x 1/64th, 1/43rd, Tech Car, 1/25th Revell Pro-Finish Model Kit): Dale's standard paint scheme, the popular and long standing Black #3. Unlike the 2001 and the 2000 No Bull 76th Win, the Plus portion of the text on the hood of this car is red over the black background. The differences between this and the 1999 standard paint scheme include the Burger King Decal being the new corporate logo - circular pattern around the world as opposed to the "Hamburger Bun" look. The Purdue decal under the Snap-On decal in front of the rear wheel well in the 1999 version is not present on the 2000. The rear angle frame also has the Realtree logo. Dale would finish this season 2nd, 265 points behind champion Bobby Labonte. The back row all reflect this scheme although the spare has a mismatched rear decal set that doesn't reflect any particular year but I have determined it is a 2000. I probably would not have gotten the 2000 Tech Car if I had known I would eventually get the Peter Max Tech Car, but what the heck. The car was packaged as the standard 1998 Goodwrench Monte Carlo, however, the decal set is closer to the 2000 standard package with elements of the 1999 scheme.

2000 Taz Monte Carlo: This special paint scheme was for the 2000 Daytona 500 and shows the Tasmanian Devil on the hood. Dale and Dale Jr made a string of commercials with Taz, the most popular of which (IMHO) had Dale teaching Taz to drive while Jr sat in the passenger seat.

1999 Cars (along the front)

1999 Goodwrench Service Plus (Angled GM Logo) Monte Carlo (2x 1/64th, Pop-Up): Dale debuted this paint scheme at the 1999 Brickyard 400. While most of Dale's Goodwrench cars held the GM blue logo, this special paint scheme has the logo angled across the hood in white on black in the form of a dealership sign. Dale Earnhardt raced this car at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the "Last Race of the Century". It featured a one time only black metallic (metalflake) finish to commemorate this race. There are additional secondary sponsors but the paint scheme is distinguished by the hood. I also have a Dark Chrome version. I made a key chain out of a spare.

This is reportedly the paint scheme, and car, he drove to his famous win at Bristol, where he rattled Terry Labonte's cage on the last lap. This would be inconsistent with the information above. I believe this was more than a one time only paint scheme and the "last race" meant the last Atlanta race of the Centruy.

1999 Wrangler Monte Carlo (1/64th, Pop-Up, 1/24th): As a former champion, Dale competed in the 1999 All Star race continuing his tradition of driving exciting special paint scheme cars. This one commemorates his early career relationship with both Richard Childress and Wrangler. Note that this is a very common collectible and is not rare as many would have you believe.

1999 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo (Las Vegas No Bull): Dale qualified for the Million Dollar Bonus at the Las Vegas 400 in March and finished in the top 10. This car carries Dale's 1999 standard paint scheme with the no bull Orange coloring and spoiler.

1999 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo: The undeniable black #3 Chevrolet. Dale captured his 74th career win in 1999 and finished in the top 10 point standings for the seventh year in a row. This car carries Dale's 1999 standard paint scheme. Unlike the 2000 paint scheme, the rear angle frame has no logo, which is unusual in the newer year cars. The Burger King decal behind the rear wheel well is the Hamburger Bun look. There is also a Purdue decal under the Snap-On decal in front of the rear wheel well. Dale would finish this season 7th, 770 points behind champion Dale Jarrett.

1999 Goodwrench Plus 25th Anniversary Monte Carlo: This paint scheme is similar to the 1999 black standard with the exception of a silver deck lid commemorating the 25th Anniversary of Winston Cup Racing in NASCAR. There is also a Nabisco logo under the Snap On decal in front of the rear wheel well.

Pop-Up Racers: These plastic spring loaded pop-up racers fold down flat and fit in the shown plastic sleeve, Looks to be a 4 piece spring-hinged (metal spring) construct. When taken from the pack, they assume a less flat form, and with wheels, can scoot in a way unbecoming a race car. The two paint schemes that I am aware of for pop-up racers both come from 1999; Wrangler and the Last Lap of the Century GM Goodwrench Sign.

1998 Cars (3 rows all the same)

1998 Goodwrench Plus Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/43rd and 1/25th Model): This is the standard paint scheme for the 1998 racing season. Its hood just has the Red Plus lettering which distinguishes it from the following years paint schemes. Unfortunately, the same is true of the 1997 Goodwrench Plus where this scheme was introduced. The differences are that the 1998 paint scheme has a small red Coca Cola decal on the window frame and the skirting has a silver bar with a small black strip at the very bottom. A hard to spot set of additional changes are the NASCAR 50th anniversary decal at the bottom of the front window frames and the words "In Loving Memory T. Wayne" under the snap on tools decal ahead of the rear wheel well. Dale would finish this season 8th, a record 1400 points behind 3 time champion Jeff Gordon.

I obtained and made the 1/25th scale model of this piece from the Daytona 500 Win kitby Revell. This was my 3rd attempt with air brushes and acrylic paints. The paint went onto the white plastic beautifully as did the higher quality decals on the painted product. The clear coat did not go on as well as hoped cutting down on the shine a bit.

"For years, Dale Earnhardt and "The Superbowl of Stock Car Racing" was a sore subject. Everyone, it seemed, emphasized that Dale had never won the Daytona 500. By 1997, he was the single most successful driver at Daytona since King Richard Petty. Dale won over 2 million dollars there; more money than any other driver in NASCAR history. He was a two-time winner of the Pepsi 400, held on the Independence Day weekend every July. Dale won the Clash, now hailed as the Shootout; the sprint race fir the past years pole winners, six times. Dale had even been victorious in his half of the Twin 125 Qualifiers, the weekday races that set the field for Sunday's Daytona 500, an incredible 10 times. Yet, Victory Lane after the Great American Race had somehow eluded him for two decades.

There were doubts in 1998, when Earnhardt entered the 40th running of the Daytona 500. After a slim 1997 season, many expected not to see him capture the checkered flag. RCR was prepared for victory, however, as the GM Goodwrench Services Plus team, led by former Daytona winning crew chief, Larry McReynolds, had tested well, helping Dale to win yet another Twin 125 Qualifier. "On Sunday, theyran string and avoided all the trouble on the race track. There was plenty of that, the race in fact ended under caution, with the #3 car first to the yellow flag with only 2 laps to go. On his way to Victory Lane, Earnhardt was congratulated by every single team in Pit Row. No one will forget Speedweeks 1998, when Dale Earnhardt and the Goodwrench team won their first Daytona 500.

1998 Pros Bass Shops Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/43rd and 1/24th): On May 16th, NASCAR held its thunderous All-Star Open race. In 1998, Dale drove a Bass Pro sponsored gold paint scheme commemorating NASCAR's 50th anniversary. An avid hunter and fisherman, it is no surprise that Dale's cars carried the Realtree decal. This special paint scheme was oriented towards the fishing side of his life. Dale has a 54 foot fishing boat called "Sunday Money" to reflect that fact that he bought it with his race winnings. Brooks and Dunn have a song called "Sunday Money" that is just one of several songs they had done about the intimidator. Dale can also been seen on the rear and sides of the Realtree hauler reflecting his other passion - hunting.

1998 Coca Cola Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/43rd and 1/24th): A special paint scheme. This is the first car he ran against Dale Earnhardt Jr. in, at the exhibition race in Motegi, Japan on November 22nd, 1998 (after the regular season). I also have a Dale Earnhardt Coke Machine (Shown elsewhere). Inside a slightly more metallic version of the 1998 Coca Cola Monte Carlo, but outside a molded tin, somewhat obviously in the shape of a Coke Machine with Dale's picture on it.

1997 Cars (along the front)

1997 Goodwrench Plus Monte Carlo: This paint scheme was introduced in the 1997 season and followed through to the 1998 season. Its hood just has the Red Plus lettering as opposed to the Goodwrench Service Plus lettering and GM logo. It differs from the 1998 Goodwrench Plus paint scheme in that it is missing the small red Coca Cola decal on the window frame and the skirting is silver to the bottom of the car, as opposed to a silver stripe with a bottom black bar more common in later years. Food City has also joined as a sponsor with a decal occupying the angle frame.

1997 Goodwrench Service Monte Carlo (1/64th and 1/25th Model): This is the standard paint scheme for the 1997 racing season. It bears the familiar GM logo and Goodwrench Service lettering on the hood. This was the first model where the headlight decals went from single color paint-over to the now more common faux-glass decal approach. The window frame has no decals and the Burger King decal is alone on the rear quarter panel. Dale would finish this season 5th, 494 points behind 2 time champion Jeff Gordon. The 1/25th scale model was my second attempt with air brushes and acrylic paints. It was slightly better than my first attempt, but only just slightly. I don't like the way the decals keep drying opaque. Next time I may trim all sides of the decals and see what happens.

"After missing the 1996 Championship, RCR decided to revitalize the the GM "Mr. Goodwrench" Performance Parts and Service Team. Childress hired Daytona 500 winning crew chief Larry McReynolds to give seven time champion Dale Earnhardt his best shot at number 8. Speedweeks 1997 started encouragingly enough with a third place finish in the Clash, a win for the Goodwrench Team in Dale's half of of the twin 125 Qualifiers, and second row starting position for the Daytona 500. Late in the race, while ahead of both Robert Yates Fords and challenging eventual winner Jeff Gordon for the lead, Earnhardts brush with the wall triggered a terrifying wreck that ruined Dale's chances for his first Daytona 500 win. True to his legend, however, Earnhardt climbed back into his battered Chevy and finished the race in a car that had rolled at over a hundred miles an hour. That kind of determination ought to carry the whole Goodwrench team through the 1997 racing season."

1997 Wheaties Monte Carlo: This one-time orange paint scheme was driven only once at the stock car race at Charlotte, May, 1997. Dale Earnhardt was the first sports figure to feature on the packaging of a cereal product. This special paint scheme reflects this relationship and sponsorship.

1997 AC Delco Monte Carlo: AC Delco sponsored this paint scheme at the Suzuka 100 in Japan, November 22, 1997 (Post Season). The difference between the 97 and 96 is mostly in the bottom stripe, and of course the headlight outlines and faux headlights. In 1997 the stripe was red with a thin white bar; in 96 it was white with a thin red bar.

1997 Crash Car (1/32 and 1/64th and Custom 1/64th)

Ahhhhh... The pinnacle of the collection. The missing link (aside from the 1978 Cardinal Tractor which I built custom and the clear window 1989 Aerocoupe). Finally and affordably, I have a professionally made 97 Crash Car in my collection. This collectible has the damaged sides of the 1997 Monte Carlo that Dale flipped at the season opener Daytona 500. After spending a few moments in the ambulance at the site, as the wrecker was preparing to pick up the car, he remarked "See if it will crank", as the car was on its tires. It did and he got back into the car and drove it to the garage, much to the applause of the crowds.

1997 Crash Car (CUSTOM - Before the 1/64th): Upon successfully making the HO Scale 96 Cardinal Tractor Plus, I decided to try some custom work. I obtained an extra 97 Goodwrench Service plus and applied the handyman's tool - a Dremel. I cut off the bottom and innards and went to work. Going from a picture of the 97 crash car, taken at Action HQ in Phoenix, I cut away the front air dam on the right side, bent up the hood (as much as possible), hammered down the left top, rear and spoiler to suggest a rollover, cut away the right moulding, tore up the rear roof a bit, and applied several scratches and markings. The tools I used did a pretty good job of scuffing the car exactly where they should have so, while not exact or brilliant, the result was an acceptable 1/64th crash car. The clear coat I put on helped the ruffled and creased appearance and added the dullness (grime) associated with a post-race car, and the cyano-acrylate glue I used to put it all back together scarred up the plastic windows quite nicely making them look warped and cracked. A bit of permanent marker (quickly smeared) helped the scuffed appearance. The scale was too small and the 1/64th metal too thick to try and do much more at least without a jeweller's set of tools and significantly more talent than I possess. The metal on the die casts is surprisingly hard to work. Quality, aside, I have a custom 97 1/64th Crash Car!!!

1996 Cars (back to front, left to right)

1996 Brookfield 3 Car Olympic Games Tribute (1/25ths): This set of 3 die cast were issued by the Brookfield Collectors Guild as a tribute by Dale Earnhardt to the athletes competing in the 1996 Olympic Games. There is a COA showing this as a set of 1 of 10,000. The unusual part of this is the Test Car, which I have never seen in die cast form before.

1996 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo: Dale achieved the track record at Watkins Glen and won the pole with this car, one week after a tough weekend at Talladega. The Watkins Glen pole award then became known as the "True Grit Pole". By now, you are probably wondering why I keep putting the word Monte Carlo behind the year and paint scheme. Dale did not always only drive Monte Carlo's. Again, the standard paint scheme in place for the 1996 racing season with the familiar GM logo and Goodwrench Service Plus lettering on the hood. You can see the paint outline of the headlights as this was before the use of faux-glass decals. The window frame bears the AC Delco red circle logo. Mom 'n' Pops graces the rear quarter panel as Burger King would not join the sponsorship until the following year.Dale would finish this season 4th, 330 points behind champion Terry Labonte.

1996 Olympics Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/64th Key Chain, 1/24th): It's a US Flag theme...

"On May 18, 1996 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway, Dale Earnhardt brought stock car racing to the world by driving the first car at a NASCAR event with the Atlanta Centennial Olympic Games logo. The event was viewed worldwide and was one of the largest happenings in Motor sports History. The car was driven in one race only and has been retired."

1996 AC Delco Monte Carlo: AC Delco sponsored this paint scheme at the Suzuka 100 in Japan, November 24, 1996 (Post Season). It is a blue paint scheme car, not dissimilar to Jr's Busch Car with AC Delco the predominant sponsor. Unlike the 97 version, Action was a rear quarter panel sponsor and Snap On tools in the usual position. Japanese writing appears on the rear part of the a-frames.

1995 Cars

1995 Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/25th): In this car, Dale triumphed at the Brickyard 400 as the second winner in history. Dale tested the 1995 Monte Carlo at Daytona International Speedway to help determine the final body configuration. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1995 racing season with the familiar GM logo and Goodwrench Service Plus letting on the hood. At this time the car bodies did not have painted outlines of the headlights. This is also the last year that the GM logo was Blue with a White border and is the main element that distinguishes the 1995 and 1996 cars from each other. This collectible sports the open hood option. Dale would finish this season 2nd, 34 points behind champion Jeff Gordon, as Gordon would take his first championship. For the 1/25th Monogram model, I painted a half and half variant with a raced (see tire scuffs in the above photo) left side and a test (gray with minimal decals) right side.

1995 Winston Silver Select Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/43rd, 1/24th, 1/64th Light): The stock car race at Charlotte in May 1995 for "The Winston Select" was the first and only time Dale drove the 1995 #3 Monte Carlo Silver Select car. The car was distinguished by a special paint scheme marking the 25 years of sponsorship from NASCAR's premier supporter of it's Championship Cup series. This one race specialty paint scheme is the one that started all the one race paint schemes we see today! This item is touted as a hard to find item, but is one of the very very common special schemes available. The version with the black spoiler is the best.

1994 Goodwrench ( Plus "In Memory of Neil Bonnett") Lumina

Dale drove this car in his last season on the Grand National Circuit, winning the season opener at Daytona. With 31 starts, 2 poles, 4 wins and 20 tops 5's, Dale went on to claim a record 7th title Winston Cup by 444 points over the competition. This was the last year that Dale drove a Lumina, the car that gained him 4 of his 7 championships. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1994 racing season with the old style white border GM logo but just with the word Goodwrench underneath the logo; Service Plus was not added until later years. The GM Logo also has the wording "Parts" under the GM and line - this is common in previous models. The angle frame has the Stetson sponsorship. Dale would dominate this Championship, winning by 444 points over contender Mark Martin. This is the second greatest point spread in the modern era.

Shown facing the opposite direction, this is the standard 1994 paint scheme with the addition of a special decal in honour of his close friend, the late Neil Bonnett, who died in practice for the 1994 Daytona 500 at the same place that Dale would die 7 years later. The decals are on the right side of the car (presumably so the fans can see them). The words are "In memory of His Friend Neil" and are directly in front (or behind if you like) of the 'h' in Goodwrench, and back from the #3. I had thought this the 2nd rarest car to try to obtain and got it at a very reasonable $4.99 over Christmas 2002 (maybe because no one else was paying attention). In fact, the 1984's proved more bothersome.

1993 Goodwrench Lumina (Plus the "Honour 28" Special)

Dale drove this Lumina to his 6th of 7 eventual championships. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1993 racing season with the old style white border GM logo but again just with the word Goodwrench underneath the logo. Mac Tools would have a logo on the front quarter panel and a larger logo in front of the rear wheel wells. Western Steer shows at the decal on the rear quarter panel although by the Pocono race, Mom and Pops had become the rear sponsorship. The window frame held the AC Delco decal. A leader both on and off the track, Earnhardt proved once again in 1993 that his successes would be constant year after year. With six wins, two poles, seventeen top-5's and earnings over $3 million, 1993 was one of Earnhardt's best years. With the final eight races in the season, Dale's 304 point advantage dwindled to 72 points, then with four races left and the competition in hot pursuit, Earnhardt strove for a final drive towards victory. With a 126 point lead in the finale, he finished tenth and captured the championship by 80 points over contender Rusty Wallace. This would mark Jeff Gordon's rookie year.

Shown facing the opposite direction, Dale drove this special paint scheme car at Pocono in 1993 with decals honouring late NASCAR heroes, specifically Davey Allison (#28). This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1993 racing season. However, Mom & Pops would replace Western Steer as the decal on the rear quarter panel. The window frame (at least for the Pocono race) held the number 28 and the AC Delco decal.

1992 Goodwrench Lumina (1/64th, 1/64th RCAA)

In 1992, stock cars took their first laps at Indianapolis Motorspeedway for a Goodyear tire test, with Dale participating in this #3 car. Dale drove this car to victory at the Coca Cola 600 in May 1992. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1992 racing season with the old style white border GM Goodwrench Logo. Mac Tools has a decal both on the front quarter panel and also a larger logo in front of the rear wheel well. This car is often also referred to as the Western Steer car (NOT Wester Steer). Western Steer is on the rear quarter panel and AC is on the window frame. Dale only finished out of the top 10 in points in two seasons throughout his career and this was the second such year. Alan Kulwicki would gain his Championship against contender Bill Elliot by only 10 points, the narrowest margin of victory in NASCAR history. By this time, the RCCA black window version had become less hideous. Compared to the newer releases by Action, Hasbro, and others, IMHO, black windows just don't cut it.

1992 Goodwrench Lumina 5 Piece: This collectible was irresistible. Although Racing Champions, not one of my favourites, this set includes a card, a 1/64th (I have several), the 1/64th Hauler (also have), a 1/43rd (did not have), and an original 1992 RCCA 1/24th Lumina. With a fair bit of shelf wear, I cracked this open and did some touch ups to the decals, silver trim and black paint chips. I guess that means they are no longer completely authentic, but who cares.

1991 Goodwrench Lumina (1/64th, 1/64th MB, 2 1/64th RCCA, 1/24th)

Dale drove this Lumina to his 5th of 7 eventual championships. This year, he completed twenty-nine races, won four of them, and took home over 2 million dollars in season earnings. In 1991, Dale also acquired an admirable fourteen top-5 and twenty-one top-10 finishes. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1991 racing season with the old style white border GM Goodwrench Logo. Mac Tools is in front of the rear wheel well and Western Steer on the rear quarter panel. Ac shows on the Angle Frame, as opposed to 1992 being on the Window frame. The Western Steer logo is also less dominant on this paint scheme. Dale would win this Championship by 195 points over contender Ricky Rudd.

Matchbox got on board early in the die cast craze and produced a 1991 version of Dale's Lumina. Like most matchbox, the size does not match well with other 1/64ths. Again, the quality of these collectibles, IMHO, is not high. This is one of the few matchbox items I have in my collection. As part of a set of items, I picked up a newer black window version from Racing Champions. Still not good and eventually I got a clear window.

Wally provided a 1/24th Brushed Metal version of the 1991 Lumina. A nice looking piece although I don't usually favour the Lumina style. It could be that the 1/64th interpretation is lacking as the lines of the larger variant are quite striking.

1990 Goodwrench Lumina (1/64th, 3 1/64th RCAA, 1/24th)

Dale drove this Lumina to his 4th of 7 eventual championships. The 1990 Lumina #3 marks the first year of four that Dale won stock car series championships driving a Chevy Lumina. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1990 racing season with the old style white border GM logo but again just with the word Goodwrench underneath the logo and Mac Tools in front of the rear wheel well. AC Delco would grace the angle frame. There are variants of this item that have Crane Cams on the front quarter panel and Western Steer on the rear quarter panel.

This is the first year of a black window car released by RCCA. For some reason, these items demand a relatively high ticket price, perhaps because they were the first die casts produced. They may have some sort of historical value, but in terms of quality, I much prefer the newer clear window version produced later by Action and others. I collected three such older models in my quest for a complete collection. One came with the front hood chipping off in a most unusual display of metal fatigue and separation. A slightly better black window version did come along and held a place in the collection until the clear window came. It was better than the RCCA versions, but not by a lot.

I also obtained and made a 1/25th scale model of this piece. This was my 4th attempt with air brushes and acrylic paints. The point I used dropped the finish quality slightly over attempt 3 (the 97), but the window work and fit were much better.

"From 1989 through 1994, the Chevrolet entry in NASCAR Winston Cup Competition was the Chevy Lumina. With it's gently slanted nosepiece and rear window, it made an ideal aerodynamic shape for cutting through the air at upwards of 190 miles per hour. The Lumina was also the first car that was front wheel drive in its showroom stock version that was also approved by NASCAR for conversion to rear wheel drive for competition. Besides the rear wheel drive, the 700 horsepower V8 and 4 speed manual transmission were nowhere to be found in showroom version. By far the most famous, and most feared Lumina of all was one that didn't roll off the assembly line at GM, but rather rolled out of the RCR racing team ship in North Carolina. Easy to spot even in a large pack of cars, this Lumina was painted black and had a rather large "3" painted on the sides where the door would normally be. This was the ride of noted Sunday driver Dale Earnhardt. While Dale spent a large amount of his successful career in a Monte Carlo, it was the Lumina that Dale was piloting when he clinched four of his record-typing seven NASCAR Championships - 1990, 1991, 1993 & 1994"

1989 Cars

1989 Goodwrench Lumina: Dale finished out "the season that almost was" 12 points away from a record 8th championship season. Not the closest race for a championship, but close to the record of 10 points between 1st and second. As expected, the was the "3rd" shortest gap in a championship race. This car shows the standard paint scheme in place for the 1989 racing season with the old style white border GM Goodwrench Logo. AC Delco is the additional sponsor on the angle frame and this car shows the familiar silver skirting, which was actually absent in the 1990 model. The grill is painted-in for this year, a trend that continued for a short period of time after the 'stock cars' departed from stock bodies that had real bumpers, headlights and grills.Dale would finish this season 2nd, 12 points behind champion Rusty Wallace.

1989 Goodwrench "Aerocoupe" Monte Carlo: Dale also drove a Chevy Monte Carlo during the 1989 season. This is the second of two years in which Dale drove the Aerocoupe version ofthe Monte Carlo, also referred to as the Fast Back Monte Carlo. This particular paint scheme includes the GM Goodwrench logo on the hood, the GM logo on the angle frame and the Goodwrench name (not logo) on the rear deck lid. To differentiate from 1988, the Diehard name can be seen on the front quarter panel

I originally bought this as advertised - a 1988 Aerocoupe, however, this collectible has a label underneath showing as the 1986-1989 Aerocoupe. This is the only remaining black window item in the collection. This does not seem to exist in clear window.

1988 Goodwrench "Aerocoupe" Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/64th Raced, 1/24th)

This was the first year of the Goodwrench Sponsorship and the beginning of the "Man in Black" tradition. It was October of this year in Charlotte that Childress unveiled the new all-black Chevrolet with the sinister #3 on the side, reflecting Earnhardt's "Intimidator" image. It took three races for Dale to earn a 3rd place standings in the points using this new scheme. This is also the first of two years in which Dale drove the Aerocoupe version of the Monte Carlo, also referred to as the Fast Back Monte Carlo.

Dale would finish this season 3rd,232 points behind champion Bill Elliot. By seasons end, he would lead over 1800 laps and he led in twenty of twenty nine races in the season. He gained 3 wins, thirteen top-5 finishes and nineteen top-10's. His efforts this year were rewarded with over one million in season earnings. Aside from being one of the only two Aerocoupe's, this difference from previous cars in that is was the more familiar Black #3. This particular paint scheme includes the GM Goodwrench logo on the hood, the GM logo on the angle frame and the Goodwrench name (not logo) on the rear deck lid. Note that the colors for the #3 logo was sometimes White and sometimes Silver.

I obtained and made a 1/25th scale model of this piece. This was my 5th attempt with air brushes and acrylic paints. The paint I used worked great with the finish, but the decals, being 17 years old went on poorly and I may not have let them dry properly as the clear coat wrinkled them dropped the finish quality slightly over attempt 3 (the 97), but the window work and fit were much better.

1987 Wrangler Monte Carlo

This was the last year of the Wrangler sponsorship that had been with Dale since 1980. In this final year of the Wrangler primary sponsorship, Dale pulled his amazing "pass in the grass" manoeuvre at the annual All Star race at Charlotte in this car after 'wrastling' with Bill Elliot for several laps. This is also the car in which Dale captured his 3rd of 7 eventual championship titles. You can see that during these years, the car bodies were much closer to the street versions, with identifiable grills and headlight areas, although glass headlights had been removed by this time. This was the fastback version of the Monte Carlo. GM Goodwrench had increased its sponsorship, as can be seen by the decal on the deck lid. The window and angle frames had no sponsorship. Dale would dominate this Championship, winning by 489 points over contender Bill Elliot. This is the greatest point spread in the modern era.  A recent addition is a 1/43rd that came with a Sam Bass "Magnificent Seven" Card.

1986 Wrangler Monte Carlo

This is the car in which Dale captured his 2nd Stock Car series championship, out of an eventual 7. 1986 was an incredibly successfulseason for Dale in the '86 #3 Monte Carlo fast back: Five race wins and second cup championship. Dale dominated the competition, beating his closest competitors, Darrell Waltrip and Tim Richmond by 288 points. As with the 1986, the Bow Tie Chevy logo is smaller and black where the 87 has a Red larger Bow tie. GM Goodwrench had increased its sponsorship, as can be seen by the decal on the deck lid and for this year, they also had a small GM Goodwrench logo on the angle frame, a hold over from the 1985 version. This was the fastback version of the Monte Carlo. Dale would win this Championship by 288 points over contender Darrell Waltrip.

1985 Wrangler Monte Carlo (1/64th, 1/64th Key Chain)

In 1985, Dale raced for his friend and associate Richard Childress in this 1985 Monte Carlo sponsored by Wrangler. It was good year; four victories, ten top-5's and sixteen top-10;s wrangled Dale an 8th place finish by season's end. The paint and decal scheme here is Wrangler all the way, well almost. The Bow Tie Chevy logo is the smaller black variety for this year, as opposed to the larger red outline present from 1987 onwards. A small GM Goodwrench logo can be seen on the angle frame breaking up the otherwise solid blue rear end with the yellow Wrangler sign. The headlights sported a yellow number 3 and the grill and headlight colors were different. Dale would finish this season 8th, 731 points behind 3 time champion Darrell Waltrip.

1984 Wrangler Monte Carlo (Yellow and Blue Trunk)

The 1984 year had two versions of the Wrangler Sponsorship, known as the Yellow Trunk and Blue Trunk paint schemes. This is the first year that Dale exclusively drove with the signature#3 number. This, and the other 1984 scheme proved to be the 2nd most difficult collectibles to obtain. The paint scheme itself is unremarkable with just the Wrangler sponsorship. This year Dale became the first two-time consecutive winner at the Talladega 500, taking the lead on the backstretch of the final lap. Dale would finish this season 4th, 243 points behind champion Terry Labonte.

The oddity for this year was the number 3 on the top is italicized in the opposite direction than usual with the bottom to the front instead of the top. Dale did not like the #3 with the top of the three further back than the bottom. He thought that it the top leaning forward made the car look faster and the top leaning back made a car look slower.

The Yellow trunk version was uncommon as was the yellow number 3 on the side with the blue siding running forward from the doors to the front fender. Dale drove this car only once at Daytona in 1984. After that race, it was decided that the car would stand out more if they reversed the colors from blue over yellow to yellow over blue, and the rest is history. After that it became the familiar color scheme Wrangler from 1984 through 1987.

The Blue trunk paint scheme was also uncommonin that only the window frame and front hood were yellow with the remainder of the car being blue with yellow number 3's. Later years had the front quarter panels also predominantly yellow.

1983 Wrangler #15 Ford Thunderbird

This is one of only two Ford's Dale drove in the Winston Cup series. Dale captured the checkered flag at the Talladega Superspeedway in 1983. This was his first season with the Ford Thunderbird and owner Bud Moore. All three parties struggled with a difficult season where Earnhardt captured only two wins at Nashville and Talladega, and a whopping 13 DNF's. This was his only full season behind the wheel of a Ford and one of two with owner Bud Moore. I think the logo on the angle frame says "Cotton". Otherwise, the fact that this is a Ford distinguishes it from the later 84 and 85 versions. Dale would finish this season 8th, 935 points behind champion Bobby Allison. Earnhardt did, however, go on to reclaim his NASCAR championship six more times after the '83 season as he reunited with Richard Childress. The pair is still considered to be one of NASCAR's most successful and well respected teams in the sport's 52 year history.

1982 Wrangler #15 Ford Thunderbird

This is one of only two Ford's Dale drove in the Winston Cup series. Dale claimed 30 starts, one pole, one win, and 7 tops fives culminating in a 12th place finish (one of his worst years). His previous season had been taxing - owner Rod Osterlund sold his team to J.D. Stacy, then Earnhardt transferred to the Richard Childress team. Dale was advised to sign with Bud Moore for the 82 season, where he would acquire the experience and confidence needed to return to Childress's championship-capable team. This paint scheme has no sponsorship on the angle frame. It also has the Wrangler Pony on the rear deck lid. This collectible does not sport a rear spoiler, which is odd, because it probably should. Dale only finished out of the top 10 in points in two seasons throughout his career. Darrell Waltrip would gain his second Championship this year.

This collectible is from the Hasbro series and is not badly made, however, its size seems out of line with all of the other collectibles. It is perhaps a centimeter (1/3 inch) longer than the 1983 model of the same make. So far, every other version offered is also of the larger size so maybe the Ford Thunderbird for this year was just plain large. I have a spare that I made into a Laser Pointer Fob.

1981 Cars

1981 Wrangler #3 Pontiac: The heralding of the Intimidator's signature #3 marked the first time Earnhardt drove for Richard Childress, sparking a relationship which continued through to 2001, with a gap while Dale drove for Bud Moore. This paint scheme is readily identifiable through the 'sergeants stripes' pattern on the hood and the fact that this is a Pontiac. Dale only drove the Pontiac in Winston Cup in the 1981 season. You will also note that in the year, the stock cars retained their original metal bumpers and grills. The 'unibody' had not yet been instituted. Dale would finish this season 7th, 905 points behind champion Darrell Waltrip.

1981 Wrangler #2 Pontiac: After the first 16 races with Rod Osterlund, Dale would race for the 4th (?) and last time with owner J.D. Stacy, Dale drove the 1981 Pontiac #2 car sponsored by Wrangler, at Daytona, Nashville, Pocono and at the Talladega 500 (race 20). Dale left the team in August to drive the #3 car for Richard Childress, starting at Michigan. This paint scheme is readily identifiable through the 'sergeants stripes' pattern on the hood and the fact that this is a Pontiac. Dale only drove the Pontiac in Winston Cup in the 1981 season.

1980 Cars

1980 Mike Curb Wrangler #2 Monte Carlo: Owned by Rod Osterlund, but sponsored by Mike Curb and Wrangler, Earnhardt drove this car once at Ontario Motor Speedway in Race 31 (final race) of his first NASCAR championship season out of an eventual 7 titles. Dale would be the first to claim Rookie of the Year and a Championship crown in back to back years. Dale would win this Championship by only 19 points over contender Cale Yarborough. This yellow and blue paint scheme shows the Wrangler sponsorship on the hoods and sides. The blue hood paintwork is angled.

1980 Mike Curb #2 Oldsmobile: This 1980 Olds 442 was raced only on super speedways in 1980, the year Dale Won his first of seven stock car series championships. Dale piloted this Rod Osterlund car (sponsored by Mike Curb/Hodgdon) in the firecrackers 400 in 1979 (race 20 at Talladega), his rookie season, finishing third. Mike Curb is questionably well known (at least) for the song "Burning Bridges", the title theme for the film Kelly's Heroes, recorded under the label Mike Curb Congregation. This yellow and blue paint scheme is similar to the 80 Monte Carlo with the difference in the Wrangler sponsorship not showing and the blue hood work being straight and not angled. The spoiler is apparent as is the chrome front bumper. This was the only Oldsmobile that Dale drove in his Winston Cup Career. The sole difference between this and the 1979-80 un sponsored incarnation is the spoiler color and the presence of the Mike Curb sponsorship. Actually, I detailed the custom decals on this as I won the decals in an auction and I had a spare 1980 un sponsored car.

1979-80 #2 Unsponsored Oldsmobile: There are two versions of the 1980 Olds 442, or at least two common die cast interpretations. The Oldsmobile was raced only at super speedways (Daytona and twice at Talladega) in 1980, the year Dale Won his first of seven stock car series championships. It was also driven once at Daytona in 1979. This version does not have the Mike Curb Productions Sponsor and has a silver spoiler instead of a yellow one. Chrome colour spoilers were predominant in previous years and this may be an unsponsored car from early in the season.

1979 Crane Cams #2 Malibu

This car (owner Rod Osterlund) brought Dale his first career Winston Cup win, the Southeastern 500 at the Bristol International Raceway on April 1, 1979, in his 16th career start. In his first full-time NASCAR cup season, Earnhardt earned Rookie of the year honours, beating out the likes of Millikan and Terry Labonte, and finished 7th in points, 1081 points behind champion Richard Petty. He claimed four poles in twenty-seven starts and gathered eleven top 5's and seventeen top 10's. The determined Earnhardt's first win was only his third race working with Jake Elder. The young intimidator led in sixteen races, including the Daytona 500 where he finished 8th.The yellow and blue paint scheme is similar to the 80 Monte Carlo with the difference in the Wrangler sponsorship not showing and the Crane Cams logo is on the angle frame. A smaller Hooker Headers is also showing on the side panel.

This year, David Pearson took over in the #2 car after Dale was injured at Pocono. He drove it for something like 4 or 5 races. He did so well in it (finished second once and won a race also) that Dale was beginning to get worried that he may not have a ride.

1978 Cars

1978 Rod Osterlund #98 Monte Carlo: This vehicle theoretically launched Dale's career in the stock car series. This was an un-sponsored car owned by Rod Osterlund, which Dale drove in his 6th NASCAR event (actually his 6th ride and 9th start) at Atlanta (Race 29). This item turned out to the be the hardest to obtain out of all of the collectibles. Rumors from DEI itself suggest that Dale only drove this in the Busch series, however, Dale Cline in "Remembering Dale Earnhardt" suggests otherwise. This car was driven only once in the last race of the season at Atlanta. Dale qualified 10th, lost a lap twice, and climbed back up to finish 4th out of 6 lead lap cars, against the likes of Darryl Waltrip and Cale Yarborough.

1978 Cardinal Tractor (plus) #96 Ford Torino (CUSTOM - Not in die cast 1/64th): I knew this vehicle existed because it appeared in the Dale Earnhardt Version of Monopoly - listed as the "#96 Ford '78". I was not clear whether or not this predated the Rod Osterlund sponsored #98. As the #98 is reported as Dale's 5th car and the Belden #19 the 4th, that suggests the #96 to be Dale's 6th car. However, according to Dale Cline in "Remembering Dale Earnhardt", Dale drove in 3 races in 1978 for Will Cronkrite in a Bud Moore car, starting with the World 600 in Charlotte, prior to joining with Rod Osterlund for his rookie season. That should make the Torino his 5th NASCAR ride. This suggested that the vehicle, along with its make, uncommon to the cup, was a Busch (Grand National) car only, which would then support the #98 as the 5th Cup car. This theory was discredited by a visitor to the site who was able to advise Dale drove this car 4 times in 1978 before the #98.

"that the #96 cardinal tractor car was raced in 78 for 4 races in the Winston cup. It wasn't a Busch car. It was owned by Will Cronkrite. That makes the Cardinal car his 5th car. The Belden car is also a Winston cup car and was his 4th ride".

The 1978 Cardinal Tractor Torino was driven at:

  • Race 12 - Charlotte
  • Race 16 - Daytona
  • Race 19 - Talladega
  • Race 22 - Darlington

Not to be stopped by the absence of a die cast collectible, I obtained water-based decals for the car along with a HO scale Slot Car Torino body. At an odd attempt at artistry, I attempted to put the two together, with a splash of paint, some clear coat and the under body from one of my other die casts.

The 1978 Cardinal Tractor (plus) #96 Torino has a cream / off white basic paint scheme with a familiar blue striping down the center. The side sponsor is the Cardinal Tractor Co., but the main hood sponsor appears to be White Crown Engineering and the logo next to the Cardinal Tractor signage on the quarter panels also bears the W marking of White Crown Engineering.

Another visitor passed on this gem of wisdom,

"You may be interested to know that the "White Crown" initials also stood for Will Cronkrite. So the W on the hood with the circle around it was Will's WC logo. He also wrenched for Janet Guthrie and Ricky Rudd. He is a CAD engineer today. He was known for being one of the first suspension guys to devise a system for zeroing out the suspension after each race to then be set up for the next race. He was one of a group of early engineers who treated it in a very scientific manner, which obviously has caught on."

The Cardinal Tractor car was originally for someone else to drive, but he got into some trouble in North Carolina during some testing and then never showed up. Dale was looking for a ride and Cronkrite gave him a call. The car has been referred to as a Bud Moore/Will Cronkrite car as Will bought some cars from Bud Moore. A visitor to this site sent a picture of the Cardinal Ford which now graces a whole different photo collection (pictures sent are not displayed, normally at senders request).

You can also see a real version of this car in the film "3".

1977 Belden Asphalt #19 Malibu

"In 1977, Dale Earnhardt made only one start in the Winston Cup Series. He raced the #19 Belden Asphalt Chevy Malibu for owner Henley Gray at Charlotte Motor Speedway on October 9, 1977. This race marked his 4th career Winston Cup start (ride) and ended quickly - the car only managed 25 laps before technical problems forced it off the track."

The paint scheme is close to the 1976 Hy-Gain #77 Malibu in terms of the Red and Blue striping. The owner was actually Johnny Ray, as was the #77 from 1976. The change in numbers to the black #19, black molding accents instead of white or sliver, and the change in sponsor ,was joined by the Holiday Campers logo blazoned across the hood and deck lid.

1976 Cars

1976 Hy-Gain #77 Malibu: Earnhardt's third car, the #77 (owner Johnny Ray), which he commissioned at Atlanta (race 29). The paint scheme spoke for itself until the #19 surfaced unexpectedly. Apart from the gold numbering, this car has red white and blue markings and the Hy-Gain logo showing sponsorship. I obtained a spare (oddly as this was an uncommon car) and made a Key Chain.

1976 Army #30 Malibu: The was Earnhardt's second NASCAR Cup ride, driven at Charlotte in his second World 600 (race 13) in the #30 Malibu (owner Walter Ballard). Tied for the 4th rarest and hardest to get with the 2000 Peter Max, this car normally commands in the $30US range for a 1/64th scale collectible. Apart from the #30 and the word sponsor Army, it is a distinctive, or perhaps non distinctive, monochrome red/rust color.

1975 10,000 RPM Speed Equipment #8 Dodge Charger / Malibu Mistake

Dales first career Winston Cup start came at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in the World 600 in 1975 (race 13) in the #8 Dodge (owner Ed Negre). This Dodge was Dale's first stock car series ride and was also the only time Dale drove a Dodge. The fact that this is a Charger distinguishes it from other collectibles. It has the familiar pre-Goodwrench yellow and blue markings and sports the 10,000 RPM Speed Four logo across the rear quarter panel. I had a spare so I made a Laser Pointer.

Information from a visitor to this site confirms the paint scheme on the car is WRONG. The die cast shows the paint job for the car actually driven by Ed Negre.

"Dale raced a charger in the 1975 charlotte race. Ed Negre was the owner of the car. He was also a driver and fielded a car in the same race. I'm not sure of the exact reasons, but he let Dale drive a car for that race. There are very few pictures of the car that Dale drove. He was 45 laps down when he finished the race and Richard petty lapped the whole field. Being that he was in a RPM Dodge owned by Negre they (Action collectibles) assumed that the paint scheme was the same. They weren't. Dales charger was mostly blue with only yellow being the rpm logos, hood scoop, and numbers".

Note, I have a picture of the Car from the 1975 race and it is in the reversed colors (blue body with yellow stripe). By request of the owner of the picture, it will not be displayed.

1975 10,000 RPM #8 Dodge Malibu: Listed as a production mistake, this 2003 reproduction put all the right decals on the wrong body. This die cast is a Malibu.

1964 'First Asphalt Win" Chevelle Elite

As the title suggests, this is the car that Dale drove to his first asphalt track win, which was actually in 1974. It is an off-color white or cream Chevelle with the primary sponsor name of "Doc's Cycle Center", theoretically located at 2007 N. Cannon Blvd in Kannapolis, NC, featured most prominently. This particular item is a hood open model. It was not available as a stand alone collectible, and was thus obtained as part of a train set add-on.

1956 K-2 Ford Victoria / K2 Mistake

"It might seem unbelievable that the Intimidator, the Dominator, the driver of both the famous and infamous black #3 Goodwrench Monte Carlo would have started in such a ride. Dale Earnhardt's very first race car was a bright pink 1956 K-2 Ford Victoria."

The car originally had an purple roof with little gold metal flakes in it. The "team" decided that Avocado would be a fine color for the rest of the car, however Gregg Dayvault's cousin Wayne mixed the paint wrong and mixed it wrong; it came out pink. The purple roof was painted pink to conform to the new color scheme. What is almost unimaginable is that Earnhardt, the winner of more money than any other driver in racing history, could not afford, at the time, to repaint it. Earnhardt raced the K-2 Victoria at the old Concord Motor Speedway in Concord North Carolina.

1956 K2 Mistake: The completely pink die cast is commonly referred to as the K2 Mistake car, reflecting a mistake in the product of the die cast. This is based on the belief that the car retained the purple roof. It is actually the other way around. The Dayvault's painted the roof pink when the body color came out wrong. The purple roof variant is the production error. I had a spare so I made a custom mini level.

GRAND NATIONAL / BUSCH SERIES / SPORTSMAN

BUSCH Series Cars

For this set, a single picture showing what I believe to be the entire collection. Instead of counting down through the years, we count up. From Left to Right, with the two 1/24ths in the back.

1980 (1979) Coke #2 Pontiac Ventura (1/24th & 1/64th): Dale's first Busch season was in 1982 in the 79 Pontiac. The 1980 Coke 2 Pontiac was indeed a 'Busch' car that was raced at Charlotte in 1980. Actually, Busch didn't start to sponsor the series until 82, hence why any statistics show Dale and most others starting out in 82. Before then, it was called the Sportsman Division (i.e. before Winston sponsored the cup it was called the Grand National Series). The series had really been around since the early 50s.

Aside from the make and unique red and white paint scheme, the hood boasts the 357 c.i. engine. This piece is available only as "A coke in a can"; the can resembling a normal Coca Cola can, albeit not from 1980. I was impressed with the high quality of the piece; it is solid and has soft rubber wheels that suggest a bit of give (i.e. springs). Thanks to team mate Wally, I also have this particular item in 1/24th scale. It is suspected that this car was driven at the second Charlotte race of the season.

1980 (1979) Mello Yello #2 Pontiac Ventura: Where the Coke #2 is red, this sports a yellow and white paint scheme, with the hood boasting a 357 c.i. engine. The other vast difference is the logo of Mello Yello instead of coke.

"Dale drove this '79 Pontiac Ventura, fielded by Rod Osterland, in the Spring of 1980 at the Charlotte NASCAR Sportsman Division race. (This series changed to the Busch Series in 1982.) Dale started the race in the 2nd starting position and finished 24th. He completed 99 laps and earned $1,455.00. This was one of 2 cars that year that was sponsored by a local Coca-Cola distributor." & "Dale Earnhardt's association with the Coca-Cola Company began in the early 1980's when, as a driver for Rod Osterlund's race team, he drove two 1979 Pontiac Ventura race cars featuring popular brands from the soft drink giant. Earnhardt drove the no. 2 Mello Yello Pontiac at Charlotte Motor Speedway in spring 1980. He started second and finished the Late Model Sportsman (now NASCAR Busch Series) race in 24th place.

1982-83 (1979) Wrangler #15 Pontiac Ventura (1/24th and 1/64th): Dale won the Inaugural Busch Series Race at Daytona in February 1982 while driving this 1979 Pontiac Ventura (owner Robert Gee). This car looks similar to Dale's Winston cup ride with the same number and sponsorship. Aside from the make being the distinguishing factor, the hood boasts the 358 c.i. engine

1986-87 Goodwrench #8 Nova: Dale drove this special #8 car, honouring the memory of his father, and (reportedly) won his second race at Daytona in the Grand National Division (the listed manufacturer for this Daytona race was Pontiac, not Chevy and this is a Chevy Nova). While GM Goodwrench Performance Parts are the main sponsor, Fischer Engineering and Wrangler also feature on the paint scheme. This is an attractive silver and black Chevy (Falcon's favourite colors).

1988 Goodwrench #8 "Aerocoupe" Monte Carlo: Dale drove this specially numbered #8 Chevy Monte Carlo Fast Back in the 1988 February Daytona Grand National division race (and possibly at 13 other races that year). This car pays homage to Ralph Earnhardt. I got this item at an amazing price, mostly because I think people thought it was the much more common 86-87 #8 Nova. GM Goodwrench is the main sponsor, but Fischer covers the decklid, and an older style Mac Tools logo graces the area in front of the rear wheel well. Wrangler is not on this paint scheme. This was owned by Teresa Earnhardt.

1989 Lowes Food Grand Prix Pontiac (2 x 1/64ths): Dale's wife and business partner, Teresa, owned this 1989 Pontiac Grand Prix car, sponsored by Lowes Foods. The collectible itself shows Dale's signature on the roof frame which suggests he drove this vehicle. Out of the Busch series collectibles, this follows with the 1988 Aerocoupe in terms of difficulty in obtaining. The #3 Pontiac was only driven at the Season starter Daytona, although Dale drove a Chevy for 12 other races and the #87 Pontiac at Dover (race 12). The #3 is not positioned to Dale's liking. He likes a forward tilt to indicate speed. I appear to have a spare one of these.

ASA Plus

ASA Series

  • 1987 Goodwrench #8 ASA Camaro: I am not sure where Dale raced this car, but have confirmed it is a Camaro and does carry the Goodwrench colors. It also bears the #8 honouring the memory of his father. I am guessing , like the 1988 Camaro #3, this was used in the ASA series. I do not think it was used in the Grand National as I do not believe it was a make of car used in that division. I have heard that is was used in 'Short track' racing. It bears the GM Goodwrench Performance Parts logo, not GM Goodwrench Service or Service Plus as is seen on the Winston Cup cars. This is very similar to the 86-87 sponsorship on the Busch Grand National Chevy Nova, in terms of the Primary Sponsor. There is a hard to make out sponsor decal of Dillon on the angle frame.
  • 1988 Goodwrench #3 ASA Camaro: Dale raced this Camaro in several ASA Series events in 1988. It differs from the 1987 version in that, obviously, the number 3 adorned the side. The primary sponsor is GM Goodwrench, not GM Performance Parts. Dillon stills shows as a secondary sponsor.

IROC Series Camaro's and Firebirds

The larger 1/24ths are the 80's Camaro's (where the Z-28 became the IROC) while the 1/64ths are the 90's Firebirds. The colors were different, but the premise of the races even then was identical car setups, different drivers. Each IROC car bears very little distinction until the latest 2001 Make a Wish one.

  • 1987 IROC #12 Extreme Liquid Red Budweiser Camaro Z28: This is the car Dale drove in the 1987 IROC Series. A disappointing year, Dale finished 10th overall of 12 cars and won none of the 4 races.
  • 1988 IROC #14 Extreme Lime Green Budweiser Camaro IROC: This is the car Dale drove in the 1988 IROC Series. Dale finished 5th overall of 12 cars and won none of the 4 races.
  • 1989 IROC #3 Pink Budweiser Camaro IROC: This is the car Dale drove in the 1989 IROC Series. Dale finished 4th overall of 12 cars and won none of the 4 races. The color is disturbing.
  • 1999 IROC #1 Orange Pontiac Firebird / 1999 IROC #1 Pontiac Blue Firebird: Dale won 3 of the IROC races in the 1999 season (of 4), at Daytona, Talladega and Michigan. These are two paint schemes from that year. Both are plain with the IROC symbols and the True Value sponsorship. There does not appear to be any strong secondary or theme sponsor of note. Dale won his 3rd IROC championship this season. The Orange IROC was the car used to win the Talladega race in this season.
  • 2000 IROC #1 Pontiac Firebird: This is the 2000 IROC that Dale ran at Daytona in 2000, and as shown by the accompanying picture and Trophy that came with it, he won the race. It is and plain, being Light Blue, or Cyan with the IROC symbols and the True Value sponsorship. There does not appear to be any strong secondary or theme sponsor of note. Dale won his 4th IROC championship this season.
  • 2001 IROC #1 Make A Wish Pontiac Firebird (1/64th): This is the 2001 IROC that Dale ran at Daytona the week prior to the 2001 Daytona 500. It is both distinctive and plain, being Green with the IROC symbols and the True Value sponsorship. Although hard to tell, the decals on the car are hands and relate to the Make A Wish foundation.

1985 Wrangler Late Model Wrangler (1/24th)

I had heard tell of this, actually I have a picture of it from a race, but had never seen in 1/64th. Possibly because it comes in 1/24th only. Reportedly, between 1975 and 1986 Dale drove the no. 3 Wrangler late model Chevrolet Camaro on the Showdown of Champions series. In summer 1985, he won 5 out of 6 races and captured the series championship. He repeated the feat the following year, winning 5 of 6 Showdown of Champions races and another championship title.

2001 #3 Goodwrench C5-R Corvette (1/43rd and 1/25th Model)

Originally, the car was to be driven by Andy Pilgrim, Dale and Jr, and it is available in 1/43rd scale showing the three drivers names on a bright yellow Corvette CR-5. However, that was a pre-release die-cast and the team ended up adding Kelly Collins as the 4th driver. This particular die cast is the raced version gold tone yellow #3 Corvette. I also obtained and made a 1/25th scale model of this piece. The model and decal quality was good so the finish looks nice, however, the body is simply not meant to be forced over the frame so I am displaying as two segments.

"Dale Earnhardt, despite winning twin 125 qualifying races, IROC races, Grand National Series races and even the Daytona 500 in 1998, still had some unfinished business at the World Center of Racing. Until the turn of the century, he had never entered the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona. The plan for Pratt and Miller Racing was to enter a pair of Goodwrench Service Plus sponsored Chevrolet Corvette C5-R race cars, with Andy Pilgrim, Kelly Collins, Dale Earnhardt jr and Dale Earnhardt driving the #3 car. Both Earnhardt's handled themselves extremely well, considering they had never driven in the endurance race, nor raced in the rain. The Corvette C5-R cars maintained a steady pace through the night, intermittent rain and poor visibility. The #2 Corvette inherited the lead and kept it when the top running sports prototype blew an engine on Sunday morning. Under gloomy skies and drizzle, the two yellow Corvette race cars led a parade of GT and sports races to the checkered flag. First overall and first in class, giving the Corvette the most significant racing victory ever. The #3 car finished fourth, after stopping for repairs during the night."

I also added the Dale Earnhardt flash to the front fender although this was actually placed on the 24 hours of Lemans #64 and #63 Cars.

"As both Corvette racers took the checkered flag, side by side on that damp dreary afternoon in France, it was most appropriate that they wore the black fender flash with the famous #3 to commemorate the teams fallen comrade, Dale Earnhardt"

Custom | DEI | RCR

The plus part of this set are the foundation cars and the duplicates I have, including some of the older RCCA cars.

Cool Customs Series

These fantasy cars sports #3 paint schemes on a 57 Chevy Bel Air. From Left to Right; a convertible sporting the Goodwrench Service Plus colors, one sporting the 1997/98 Plus scheme, one with the 1998 Coke colors from the Japan race (Motegi) against Jr (Jr's custom shown to the far right), and one with the 1995 Silver Select colors. I have shown them with their real racing companions, which includes two more spares I found in my cases (the Plus and Silver Select). The Jr car is actually a nice scheme with the Coke Bear on the hood and snow capped mountains on the sides.

Muscle Machines Series

Muscle Machines put the Goodwrench Plus paint scheme on barely recognizable hopped up muscle cars from the 60's or 70's. From left to right, starting with a Monster Truck with several tons of raw competition crushing power!, we then see a Nova (year unknown) and the other is a 1969 Camaro. I also have a Jr Camaro shown here as it is part of the Muscle Machines series.

Customs

All of the following are custom built, that is they are not production line items and have been made by someone with a lot of patience and/or skill.

  • Custom Earnhardt Family Tow Truck (1/24th): This is a JADA 1953 Chevy Heavy Dual Wheel Wrecker "TOW TRUCK" stripped down, with Dale Earnhardt decals applied and clear coated. The primary decal is the hood picture of Ralph, Dale and Dale jr. An exceptional piece for the collection.
  • Custom Taz D-Rod (1/24th): This is a truly exceptional 1933 D-Rod custom with the best handiwork I have seen. Perfect clear coat paint work and exceptional in every way.
  • Custom 55 Chevy Nomad Wagon: This is a 55 Chevy Nomad, 1/64 scale from the Hot Wheels Red Line Series, using Dale Earnhardt decals. The builder took the die cast apart, stripped off the paint, primered, painted, put on decals and added several coats of clear coat. This also has tail and headlights. The original Redline tires were taken off and replaced with Whitewall real rider tires.
  • Custom Charger: This is a Fast N Furious Charger, with what should be a 1993 decal set, as indicated by the small GM Goodwrench sign and more importantly, the Mom N Pops decal on the rear quarter panel. However, the DEI or NASCAR 25th anniversary symbol is also on the back end and the number 3 is Red, so there are a few variations that just make this a custom unattached to a specific year.
  • Custom Silver Select DUB Silverado: This is a DUB Silverado from the Hot Wheels Series, using Dale Earnhardt Silver Select decals.
  • Custom Goodwrench Plus DUB Hummer: This is a DUB Hummer from the Hot Wheels Series, with the Dale Earnhardt 1997 Goodwrench Plus decal scheme (as can be determined by the old style round Burger King logo on the rear QP). Another nicely done custom from the crafter of the DUB Silverado.

Dale Earnhardt Incorporated (DEI) Cars

This set is comprised of DEI Cars, but from three different era's almost.

  • DEI 2010 Bass Pro: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and Bass Pro Shops paid tribute to Dale Earnhardt's induction into the 2010 NASCAR Hall of Fame with this special paint scheme. Jamie McMurray sported this retro design on his No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet at Talladega on October 31. This race marks the 10th anniversary of Earnhardt's 76th and final victory of his career. Mine is actually imprinted on a 2009 winged Impala and may be a mistake 'special'.
  • DEI 2002 Cup Cars: This a three piece set of the 2002 Dale Earnhardt Incorporated line-up consisting of paint schemes for Michael Waltrip (#15 NAPA), Ralph Dale Earnhardt Jr (#8 Budweiser) and Steve Park (#1 Pennzoil).
  • Dale jr #3 AC Delco: This was a DEI car driven by Dale Earnhardt jr to 2 championships in the Busch Series. I have both the tech car version and a version from the AC Delco Pit Road diorama, but I replaced that with a spare Dale sr Suzuka car to create a custom pit road set.
  • Smith & Wesson #16 (1996): This DEI car was driven by Ron Hornaday Jr in the Busch Series. Reportedly sporting the 1996 graphics, the primary sponsor throughout is Smith & Wesson, with minor support from Buck Fever Racing and Speed Zone. I particularly like this car because the hood features Dale Earnhardt's signature.
  • Kirk Shelmerdine #3: This first DEI sponsored car was driven by Kirk Shelmerdine. Kirk was Dale's crew chief for his 4 Lumina based Winston Cup Championships. Dale provided Kirk with a Busch ride in the #3 Goodwrench Dale Earnhardt Incorporated car. Shelmerdine still drives, but not convincingly. If this car looks almost exactly like the 1988 Aero coupe, it is likely because it is pretty much the same, although minor variations in the cowling can be made out and it is reportedly a 1986-1989 Chevy Aero Coupe. This model is also referred to as the Fast Back Monte Carlo. This particular paint scheme includes the GM Goodwrench logo on the hood, the GM logo on the angle frame but the Chevy bow tie on the rear deck lid, where Dale had the Goodwrench name. A cheesy part to the item is that the rear end shows "1 of 10,000", which is undoubtedly NOT a sponsor.

Richard Childress Racing (RCR) Cars

This set is comprised mostly of the Earnhardt Legacy FOundation series. I am not sure if that is an DEI thing or an RCR thing, but as Richard was the owner of the famous number 3, they will all be labeled as RCR cars.

  • 2002 Legacy Foundation Monte Carlo: Established for the Foundation Concert held June 26th, at Daytona International Speedway, this hood open piece shows a different outline of Dale but not much else. This also came with a pewter badge which I turned into a Fridge Magnet. This is reportedly 3 of 5. Wally donated a very cool 1/18th edition to the collection. A recent addition is two more 1/24ths, one brushed metal.
  • 2003 Victory Lap: Driven by Richard Childress as part of the 2003 Salute to Winston Cup Champions with the leaving of RJ Reynolds as the Winston Cup Sponsor, this car was a favourite as it circled the track at Charlotte (Lowes) Motor Speedway for the UAW-GM Quality 500 on October 11th. Richard pulled ahead for a medium-speed lap prior to pulling into the garage before the start of the race. Jeff Gordon, now a 4 time champion, was honored along with Dale. Aside from the Winston Cup Logos, the car sported the #3, listed the 7 years that Dale held championships and had Dale's trademark signature across the back bumper.
  • 1997 Realtree Camouflage Monte Carlo: A new release for 2010, I am not sure that this paint scheme was ever really raced. It is definitely a 1997 Monte Carlo though. Came with a magnetic camo-hood for my fridge.
  • 2002 Legacy Monte Carlo: At the Winston Cup banquet in 2002, Teresa unveiled this collectible.A special edition Monte Carlo with Dale's Victory pose on the hood, the DEI Logo on the side and partially on the roof, the years of Dale's championships on the deck lid and signatures virtually everywhere else. This is reportedly 1 of 5.
  • 2006 Legacy Hall of Fame: Presumably a Foundation piece due to the edging and Foundation Log. This Silver car represents Dale's induction into the Hall of Fame on April 27, 2006. The paint scheme is some foundation elements, the stylized DEI lines and notations of his various milestone victories (i.e. 5xClash Winner). This maybe 4 of 5 originally intended pieces.
  • 2008 The Duke: A special die cast scheme honoring John Wayne, the other Tough Customer with True Grit.
  • 2008 Man in Black: A special die cast paint scheme honoring Johnny Cash, the other Man in Black.
  • 2009 Elvis: A special die cast paint scheme for the 2009 Vegas race honoring Elvis, another "King"
  • 2010 Salute to Dale #3 Wrangler: The #3 Wrangler Impala driven by Dale Jr at Daytona, honoring Dale and his sponsor Wrangler.
  • 2010 Hall of Fame: A special 2010 HOF Charlotte COT commemorating Dale's induction into the Hall of Fame.

1995 GM Goodwrench Craftsman Truck (1/24th, 1/64th and 1/25th Model)

This is a Richard Childress (advertised as Dale Earnhardt) owned Craftsman Truck driven by Mike Skinner. Driving the RCR Goodwrench Chevy Supertruck, Mike Skinner dominated the inaugural Supertruck season with 8 wins and clinched the first NASCAR Supertruck championship. I obtained and made a 1/25th scale model of this piece prior to being able to eventually find one. This was my experimentation with air brushes and 'clear' paints so the piece is not all I would like it to be. Still, it's not bad for a first attempt.Shown here is also a 1/64th Truck.I have a with a plastic holocard of Mike and the truck elsewhere.

Hauler Row

Haulers - Set 1 (left to right, back to front)

  • 1995 7x Champions Hauler (#1569): Winston Cup promotional trailer showing Dale Earnhardt's 7 championships, car and signature on the left side and Richard Petty's on the right. The top bears the 7&7 symbol. This piece also has a nicely detailed interior including a right side door (not shown). In this view, the two champions cars are on top of the hauler.
  • 1998 Hauler: The standard 1998 Hauler. I like the cars on the side. The other side shows the #3 zooming away.
  • 1993 Six Time Champion Hauler: The trailer shows Dale's 6 championship years. It additionally shows that Dale's Pit Crew won Unocal's crew of the year honors from 1985 through 1988. Unexpectedly, for the price, this is a metal coin bank. I'm not even going to try the key. (A quick look suggests it would be a bad idea)
  • 1993 Winston Winner: A hard piece to get. This shows Dale's winning the 1993 (9th) Winston. The top lists the finishing order of the drivers. It is also a metal hauler.
  • 1992 Five Time Champion Hauler: The trailer shows Dale's 5 championship years. It additionally shows that Dale's Pit Crew won Unocal's crew of the year honours from 1985 through 1988. The item itself is more plastic than metal and of lower quality than the tribute trailer, but once dusted, it came up nice.
  • 1992 Five Time Champion Hauler: The trailer shows Dale's 5 championship years. It additionally shows that Dale's Pit Crew won Unocal's crew of the year honours from 1985 through 1988. The is a quality metal piece with a fold up trailer door and fold down loading ramp.

Haulers - Set 2 (left to right, back to front)

  • 2004 Souvenir Hauler: The 2004 Souvenir Hauler has multi pictures of Dale and the black #3. The right side and the back have additional images.
  • 2002 Forever the Man Legendary Hauler: I saw this trailer (the real one) in Phoenix at the 2002 race and thought, "Gee that would be a nice 1/64th". Then I saw the costs at Action Performance (we went there too) and came back to hold out for a EBay find. This is it. The neat thing is that the pictures on the hauler differ on the left and right sides and on the rear.
  • 2003 Team Realtree Hauler: I saw this hauler at Phoenix and noticed Dale on the end with (I assume) some sort of hunting celebrity; I know it is not Dave Marcis. Team Realtree was an a-frame sponsor for some years. Dale appears on the ba
  • ck, in much the same way as the picture from Phoenix and as shown larger from the box the hauler came in. The picture of the hauler itself shows Dale in hunting gear as the third (rear end of trailer, farthest right) of three hunters with a buck.
  • 2002 Tribute Hauler: This started the whole collection when Wally gave Falcon this 1/64th hauler. Falcon had seen this Hauler (or one of them) in Las Vegas in 2001 but being Falcon, had declined to sign it (it's just not his thing). Action made a 1/64th of the trailer with a selection of the signatures.
  • 2000 Hauler:The standard 2000 Hauler. I got this because it had a very similar paint scheme to the tribute hauler released in 2002.

Haulers - 1/43rd

  • 1993 Five Time (In Season) Champion Hauler (1/43rd): The trailer shows Dale's 5 championship years. It additionally shows that Dale's Pit Crew won Unocal's crew of the year honours from 1985 through 1988. This is actually a 1/43rd Hauler so a nice addition to the collection.

Haulers - 1/82nd

  • 1995 Seven Time Champion Hauler (1/82nd): Unexpectedly, this is not a 1/64th. Regardless, this rig lists all of Dale's 7 championship years and I just thought it might look good in the Hauler collection.

Race'n'Play

This is too much fun. This large 1998 Transport opens up to have a fold out pit row, complete with little workers that I might actually paint, a pit cart, fuel cart and stack of tires, all of whom live in another fold out area. I added 2 spare 1999 Goodwrench Service Plus 1/64ths to the Victory Lane rotunda and for the Pit. This was a great find for $18 including shipping as I generally see them for $15UK and up (before shipping).

Dually Farm (left to right, back to front)

  • 1999 Wrangler Dually & Trailer:; The 1999 Wrangler Racing Dually, with the associated feather-lite style trailer. While the interior is absent, there is a working right side door.
  • 1997 Wheaties Dually: The 1997 Wheaties Dually, with the Wheaties paint scheme from the car.
  • 1994 Show Dually: The 1994 Show Dually, sporting logos and symbols more consistent with the actual racing car. Did such Dually's ever exist or is this just another medium to paste logo's on a die cast and get my cash? :)
  • 1994 Dually: The 1994 RCR / Goodwrench Racing / Dale Earnhardt Dually. This is the first time I have seen the Goodwrench Racing logo on a die cast and it is also the primary logo, followed by RCR and a "miss able" Dale Earnhardt signature logo.
  • 25th Anniversary Nitro Bass BoatA new release for 2004, this die cast represents the 25th Anniversary of Winston Cup Racing. Based on the colors that graced the 1999 25th Anniversary Chevy Monte Carlo driven by Dale, this also represents the real bass boat given to, and used by Dale. The collectible came with two seats (one swivel) and the matching trailer.

Support Vehicles (left to right, back to front)

  • 1997 Prevost Bus Bank: Without a doubt, a hard piece to get at a reasonable price - the 1997 Prevost Bus Bank. Finally, I can stop looking for it.
  • Earnhardt Support Crew: This diorama shows the 1999 Goodwrench GM Plus Chevrolet surrounded by garage and infield items including a #3 wrecker, a tool truck, a generator, tool bench and #3 helicopter (which I am not clear Dale had).
  • Earnhardt Like 57 Chevy Lift Truck and 1986 Monte Carlo: This piece from Maisto is nicely colored and shows a Wrangler type paint scheme, similar coloring (More gold than yellow) and the stylized #3. Missing are any affiliation with Dale, RCR or Wrangler on the hood. Thus it is Earnhardt like and was close enough for the collection.
  • 1990 Team Convoy: This set shows a flatbed hauler carrying the 1990 GM Goodwrench Lumina, followed by a Crew Van. Again, not a big fan of the Matchbox series, but this goes with the Earnhardt Support Crew.
  • 1991 Five Time Champion Van: This 'fantasy' van is a 91 Chevy Van painted in the #3 scheme with silver trim and all. It has the words 'Five Time Champion" across the top. Normally I would not go out of my way for an item like this, especially because it is Matchbox (i.e. blocky), but... I am obsessive with my collections. Aside from the 'Matchbox' standard oversized wheel, the little item is actually pretty nice. It has Dale's signature emblazoned in fine readable style and works quite nicely into the collection.

Diorama's

Pit Road Series Collection

In 1999, Dale Earnhardt celebrated his 25th year in NASCAR Cup competition. Winners Circle released 6 pit road diorama's, one for each car paint scheme from the 1998 and 1999 seasons.I added my own custom built one.

  • Pit Road 98: The Goodwrench Plus Monte Carlo at the 40th running of the Daytona 500, on the 50th Anniversary year of NASCAR, on the 20th attempt to win by Dale Earnhardt; naturally the one he won. It also goes with the Victory Donuts, Victory Lane and Pit Row Win items.
  • Pit Road Bass Pro Shops: The 1998 Bass Pro Shops Monte Carlo. The crew is working on the left side tires.
  • Pit Road Coke Tires Off: The 1998 Coca Cola Monte Carlo. The nice aspect of this piece is that the two tires are off, and the brakes, etc (to the detail possible) are shown.
  • Pit Road Silver Anniversary: The 1999 Goodwrench Plus 25th Anniversary Monte Carlo in for a 2 tire stop.
  • Pit Road - Coming In: The 1999 Goodwrench Monte Carlo? (the paint scheme doesn't match 1999 or 2000 on other collectibles). This item shows Dale coming in as his pit crew scramble across the wall.
  • Pit Road 4 Tire Stop: The 1999 Wrangler Special paint scheme in for a 4 tire stop.
  • Pit Road AC Delco 97 (Custom): This is actually a Pit Road diorama for jr, but since I had a spare 1997 AC Delco die cast, I unscrewed the jr one and super glued Dale's 97 AC Delco in its place.

Garage Scene

This Diorama shows the #3 Garage including the 2000 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Monte Carlo, toolbox, jack, jack stands, tires, carriers, and Dale and Richard conversing. The backdrop showed the garage area, but it went with the box.

Packaged Specials

  • 2000 Winston Cup Scene: This packaged set provides the 2000 Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo and a miniature fold out copy of the 2000 Winston Cup Scene magazine from March 16th, 2000 when Dale brought Chevy its first win under the new Rules package. This should have been as a result of the Cracker Barrel 400 from Atlanta (and I think it was). I will not be opening this item to preserve the contents.
  • 2008 Daytona 10th Anniversary COT:This 2008 release is a Car Of Tomorrow Impala sporting the Paint Scheme from Dale's 1998 Daytona Victory, packaged with a #3 Pit Sign.
  • 1999 Goodwrench Service Plus (Angled GM Logo) Monte Carlo: Dale debuted this paint scheme at the 1999 Brickyard 400. This special paint scheme has the logo angled across the hood in white on black in the form of a dealership sign. Dale Earnhardt raced this car at the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the "Last Race of the Century". It featured a one time only black metallic (metalflake) finish to commemorate this race.

1992 Pit Scene

This Diorama is rare in that it is a 1/24th, a Lumina and of RCCA make - an early die cast. It shows the 1992 Lumina making a pit stop. Dale is at the wheel.

Car Related Items

Beanies

  • 14" Soft Toy Car: Slightly bigger than a 1/18th, this is the 1999 GM Goodwrench Sign scheme.
  • Mary Meyer - 1998 Coke, Bass Pro and Plus Bean Bag: These are about the size of a 1/24th scale die cast. I only knew about the Bass Pro for the longest time.
  • 1997 - 98 Speedie Bean Bag: I picked up the first of these in a set of 4 pieces. They were smaller than I expected (based on the Bass Pro Beanie) ending up at around 1/43rd scale. Interestingly the decals seem a hybrid between the 1997 Goodwrench Plus and the 1998 Goodwrench Plus schemes. I picked up additional pieces as side effects of other multi-auctions.

Wackie Racer

A little friction propelled racer - 2100 scheme

Odds(from left to right)

  • Custom Lamp Pull Chains: Another custom creation (by me). Pull Chain light switched for the old pull chain type lamps. These three die cast - the 1998 Goodwrench Plus, the 1999 Goodwrench Service Plus and the 2001 Daytona Sonix - were spares. A bit of Dremel work and CyanoAcrylate (CA) glue, and voila.
  • Roaring Racer: This 1994 Lumina has roaring engine sounds if you press down on the hood. The batteries still work, which is great given my luck with battery replacement to date.
  • Pull Back Racer At first I thought this was just a plastic car within a multi item auction. It turned out to be one of those pull back friction wind type race cars. It was called a slot car in the auction, but I think of them as being more for electric race tracks.
  • 2000 Goodwrench Magnet: A Magnetic 2000 #3 Goodwrench (flat bottom) 1/64th Die-cast. THe onylMagnet not on my Fridge door.
  • Lastly a spare 97 Plus 1.6th that I made into a lase rpointer. I missed showing this in the pictures above.

Micro Machines (a new discovery)

I was always aware of Micro Machine's but had not looked seriously for Dale before:

  • Hauler Series - Dale himself with Hauler and Car.
  • Duelling Driver Series - Dale (in the 1999 Last Lap car) and Steve Park (I transposed the car to put the Last Lap with the hauler).
  • Dale Earnhardt Checkered Flag Series - Dale, Steve Park, and Dale Jr with a Flagman and the Flag Up.
  • Dale Earnhardt Checkered Flag Series - Dale, Steve Park, and Dale Jr with a Flagman and the Flag Up.
  • 1998 1/87th Keychain Not a MicroMachine, but pretty darn small. A 1/87th metal fob with a major sponsorship paint scheme resembling the 1998 plus car.

Mr GoodWrench Desk Organizer / Speed Wheel Racer

Beyond Brilliant. This 1999 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo is one racy organizer with seven desktop tools. Lifting the hood exposes the detailed engine (which happens to be a stapler), and reveals the handy tape dispenser roof flap. You can measure up with the T-square rules which slides out from the front bumper. Pull open the trunk to find the spare tire eraser and victory flag stamp. Cut into your work with the rear bumper scissors. Don't forget the exhaust pipe pen if you just have to sign an autograph. And when the working day is done, desktop driving is fun.

Also shown is a Speed Wheel Racer with a mini Dale driver figurine within it. It actually bears no relation to the Desk Organizer but my collection has gotten to the size where I just have to combine things even remotely close to fit all the pictures in.

Race Around the World Fantasy Sets

The theme of this series is "Imagine your favorite driver competing in a race around the world". Each set contains a race car, plane and boat, with theme based markings.

  • 99 Wrangler Colors Race Around the World Fantasy Set: The 1999 Wrangler color scheme on the Monte Carlo, a dual hull racing boat and a plane of unfathomable type.
  • 99 Goodwrench Service 25th Anniversary Race Around the World Fantasy Set: The 1999 25th Anniversary paint scheme Monte Carlo, a cigar hull racing boat and a sweep wing plane.
  • 97 Goodwrench Plus Race Around the World Fantasy Set: The 1997 Plus paint scheme Monte Carlo, a dual hull racing boat and a plane of unfathomable type.

Lighting

  • 2000 Big Wall Plug Night Light: This is a a big wall plug nightlight, as it suggests.
  • 2001 Monte Carlo Night Light This is about the size of a 1/24th scale die cast. It is a night light. Surrounded by;
  • 2000 Flashlight Keychain (Black and Gold): Almost 1/43rd size, this piece was bigger than I expected. I identified it as the 2000 paint scheme although the headlight section suggests a 96. Two (working) AA batteries later and viola, let there be illumination. The second one has a gold chrome finish instead of black. Surrounded by;
  • 2010 Custom Nightlights (Pre GoodWrench and GoodWrench): A montage of 1/64ths surrounding a sea shell backed nightlight. A custom creation of Steve James (the original and official Final Ride photographer noted on this page) and his company - Light My Fire of North Carolina (http://lightmyfireofnc.com). This find has finally tipped the scales and exceeded my storage capacity.

Electronics

This includes miscellaneous electronics, phones and a mouse, thus also mouse pads. From back to front, left to right:

  • GM Goodwrench Car Shaped Phone: It Works!!! I also got to apply all the decals. Very exciting. The lights flash when a call comes in.
  • 2000 GM Goodwrench Transporter Phone: It also works and since I can connect my headset to it, it was in use (Desk space changed this). Dwayne brought this to the collection.
  • Pacesetter Electronic Racing Game: Dale Earnhardt theme Tiger racing game. Pop the trunk and race in one of 3 game modes, including NASCAR season, where you will take #3 through 32 races on the way to the NASCAR championship. The Controls feature a steering wheel, accelerator and brake, along with a rooftop view of the track.
  • Dale Earnhardt Walkie Talkies: I have walkie talkies. Never really used them. I still needed these. Shaped like the 1998 GM Plus car. Comes with additional side decals and Morse Code capability and instructions.
  • GM Goodwrench Racing Radio AM/FM (Walkman): This 4 inch GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo comes with ear budsand a belt clip. It also came with some sort of wrap around thing but I don't know what that is. Maybe a leg band if one is exercising and doesn't have a belt.
  • "Mouse" and Mouse Pad: I saw that really really dorky commercial on Speed channel showing the guy with the Mark Martin mouse, it occurred to me that I needed a Dale Earnhardt Mouse. This mouse will not be used of course, and it may one day be joined by the Coca Cola version.
  • Racing Radio AM/FM Alarm Clock / Flashlight: I had to have this. I turned it on. It works, I didn't understand the instructions, but it doesn't matter because now it is safe in the collection. The lights are super spiffy.
  • TV Remote: THIS is the item that caught my attention in a multi-piece auction. A Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Chevrolet shaped TV Remote control. OK, so I won't use it. but I HAVE it.

Mouse Pads (from top to bottom, left to right)

  • Hood Mouse Pad: Obtained at the Forever The Man trailer at PIR, this is simply a mouse pad.
  • Wrangler Hood Mouse Pad: Obtained from the NASCAR Cafe in 201, this mouse pad has wrangler images from 1986
  • Mouse and "Mouse Pad": a 98 imager, came with the Mouse.
  • Legend Mouse Pad: Obtained from the NASCAR Cafe in the Sahara at Las Vegas, this is the new legend (foundation) release of a mouse pad.

RC Cars (top to bottom, back to front)

  • 2001 Daytona Racing WideOpen Remote Control Goodwrench Monte Carlo: A remote control 1/24th die-cast with the #3 2001 (Daytona 500 Sonix ) Paint Scheme. This item has nicad batteries, a charger and a real remote control reminiscent of a real Remote Control Car. Having had RC's cars in the past, I did not try to charge and play with this item.
  • 2001 Daytona Road Champs Remote Control Goodwrench Monte Carlo: A remote control 1/64th die-cast with the #3 2001 (Daytona 500 Sonix ) Paint Scheme. For this item, the Charger is a large #3 Helmet (super cool). Having practiced with the Motorworks version, I did not try to charge and play with this item.
  • 1992 New Bright Remote Control Goodwrench Lumina: A remote control 1/18th die-cast with the #3 1992 Paint Scheme. I did not test this one. It was bigger than expected.
  • 1998 Motorworks Remote Control Coca Cola Monte Carlo: A remote control 1/64th die-cast with the #3 1998 Coke (Motegi) Paint Scheme. This one did not need testing. I figured out the process from the 2001 version.
  • 2001 Goodwrench Monte Carlo (Set of 4): 4 wire control RC's with the #3 2001 Goodwrench Paint Scheme. The 1/43rd version is black. The Gold and Dark Chrome (I have 2) versions appear to be about 1/28th scale.
  • 2001 Motorworks Remote Control Goodwrench Monte Carlo: A remote control 1/64th die-cast with the #3 2001 (regular season) Paint Scheme. It took a long time for me to figure out how to open it, and get it charged. Once I did however, it whizzed around the kitchen in a very unstable manner. I can say this because I used to race RC cars (albeit a tad larger) A sixty second charge gave over 60 seconds of racing. The base holds the charger (not easy to get the car on) and then the charger goes back into the base which becomes the remote control. I think one is more than enough, but... NIFTY.
  • Tyco #3 Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Nascar Slot Car: Whenever I go into the local hobby store, I check out the slot car sets on the odd chance I might see an Earnhardt. I never have, however, at long last I find one on eBay. This is a Tyco scale slot car and appears to be a 91 or 92 Lumina. Now I may have to see about getting a Tyco racing set.

Hood Series

In looking for new ways to display my collection in the very limited space I have, I stumbled across a 'keepsakes display box'. I bought one and then tried out various elements of the display. I ended up with 3 altogether. These first two are used to display mini race hoods with their respective cars. This first montage shows 8 of the race hoods I have accumulated, specifically those that match real (raced) hood schemes. From left to right, by column:

  • 1995 Silver Select
  • 1996 Atlanta Olympics
  • 1997 Wheaties (Custom)
  • 1998 Bass Pro Shops (Custom)
  • 1998 Motegi Coke
  • 1999 GM Sign last Lap of the Century
  • 2000 Taz No Bull
  • 2001 Oreo

This montage holds race hoods plus 2 special items. I'm not clear there are any special paint schemes NOT included in one of the two displays. From left to right, by column:

  • 1995 Silver SelectDale Picture Hood (Custom)
  • 1986 Wrangler Aerocoupe (Custom)
  • 2005 24kt Hood Christmas Ornament (Motorhead)
  • #3 Dale Earnhardt Hat Pin
  • 2000 Peter Max
  • Race Car Hood Light Switch Plate
  • 2000 Goodwrench Service Plus - in transit
  • 2000 Goodwrench Dale Picture Hood
  • 1998 Goodwrench Service Plus Earnhardt Flag Hood (Custom)

Mini Helmet

  • Simpson Open faced GM Goodwrench Dale Earnhardt helmet
  • As above, but with the 95 Silver Select special paint scheme

Collector Plates

  • 7 Time Champion: This is a very crisp and sharp looking collector plate from Motorsports Editions.
  • Night Ride: An un-numbered Sam Bass piece - factory prototype for the Hamilton Mint. Very nice though, showing a night race in a Lumina.
  • Black Attack: An un-numbered Sam Bass piece- factory prototype for the Hamilton Mint. This shows a 97 Monte Carlo, Dale and a lightning backdrop.
  • Always a Champion (X0383): This is the first release of a plate (Hamilton Mint) after Dale's death, and is pretty much the only one I like so far. I find the others have Dale smiling, which, I know he did, but this one alone seems to capture the Intimidator's intensity. This piece is numbered X0383.
  • The Ultimate Finish (0004P): a collector plate from Motorsports Editions, showing Dale winning the 2000 Atlanta race.
  • 6 Time Champion: This collector plate from Motorsports Editions shows each of the cars from Dale's first 6 championships.

Crystal Series

  • Crystal and Lighted Stand: This laser inscribed crystal shows Dale in his characteristic downward glare with the #3 Goodwrench Monte Carlo and the Dale Earnhardt Signature. It sits on a lighted pedestal. This was a gift from Wally.
  • Crystal and Rotating Lighted Stand: This laser inscribed crystal shows Dale, a set of checkered flags, the #3 Goodwrench Monte Carlo and the Dale Earnhardt Signature. It sits on a lighted and rotating pedestal.

Dale Earnhardt Signature Card

Dwayne Dwibbley, Team Whump International crew chief obtained this signed collectors card in Edmonton upon opening a random pack of cards. He brought it down for scanning in the hopes that he would not be slain outright for its possession. Dwayne failed to report to the next team meeting so his hopes may have been forlorn and obviously misplaced. This is a 2000 Upper Deck Maxximum Signatures Card. Note - Dwayne pulls more than his share of said cards. Falcon gets this when Dwayne dies, at some indeterminate future point and location.

Autographed Cards

  • Autographed Upper Deck Card: Dwayne Dwibbley's reign of power is OVER!!! Wally Whump, co-founder of Team Whump International, arrived at the garage with an Autographed Dale Earnhardt card, Certificate of Authenticity and all.... Yeah, I know most signatures are forgeries, but I have compared to authenticated signatures and as far as I am concerned, THIS ONES GOOD!!! Anyone that says otherwise risks my inimitable ire.
  • Autographed Pinnacle Card: Wally Whump, co-founder of Team Whump International, has proven to be the master of fruitful contacts. Yet another Autographed Dale Earnhardt card, Certificate of Authenticity and all.... THIS ONES GOOD TOO!!!
  • Autographed Slip Sheet: Wally Whump, co-founder of Team Whump International, provided yet another brilliant item. This slip sheet (8x10) that one can normally find around the track has Dale's signature and his famous 'The Look' image. The car is pretty cool too. It shows a feature that has yet to appear on any die cast - Taz is inside the bow tie. That makes this, as near as I can tell, a 1999 car. (This is a scan/print, not a real signature)

North Carolina State Coins

North Carolina State Collector Coins, embedded in collector cards and jewel case encased. These are officially minted coins, specially painted on the "Head".

  • Oreo Quarter: Sporting the OREO Paint Scheme from 2001, this large card and coin picture the Oreo car. This came with a lucky 1998 Penny
  • 7 Time Champion Quarter: Sporting Dale's image embedded in a card surrounded by his 7 championship cars on one side and pictures of him with his championship trophies on the other.
  • 7 Time Champion Portrait Quarter: A stylized #7 "highlight" card with Dale holding his 1994 Winston Cup and the North Carolina state coin off to the side with a picture of a Winston Cup and part of the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo. On the flip side, the 1994 season stats.
  • 2 Time Champion Portrait Quarter (2): A stylized #2  "highlight" card with Dale holding his 1986 Winston Cup and the North Carolina state coin off to the side with a picture of a Winston Cup and the 1986 #3 Wrangler Chevrolet Monte Carlo. On the flip side, the 1986 season stats.
  • Gold Quarter and Cards: A set of 4 cards, one of which has a gold plated quarter embedded inside the "Need for Speed" card.
  • 2010 Intimidator NC Commemorative Coins: 2 new "coins" with different fronts. Back ways Dale Earnhardt the Intimidator 1951-2001. These ones may not be official coins as they don't bare any mint markings.
  • Krewe of Jefferson Dubloons: NC Red, White and Blue (Tin?) Mardi Gras style dubloons.

Intimidator Pewter Plaque and Walnut Box

Initially I thought this was just a plaque, but it is actually a red wood (jewelry?) box. As it is made in Thailand, probably not Walnut.

Christmas Theme

  • The Finishing Touch (Motorsports Editions): Looks like Santa is painting up a shiny new #3 back at the shop. and the 1/24th car in the toy sack. This piece is #0443 of the run.
  • Thomas Pacconi Hand Blown Glass Ornaments: This wooden and stamped (with Dale's Signature) box contains 7 hand blown glass ornaments in the shape of the championship cars from each one of Dale's winning seasons. Not to be played with.
  • Four Hand Blown Glass Ornaments: A velvet lined box of four identical hand blown glass ornaments in the shape of the GM Goodwrench Chevrolet cars. I suspect they are Pacconi's but a 95/96 theme.
  • 1994 Winston Cup: This Christmas ornament is the 1994 Winston Cup. It has the #3 on it.
  • Santa is an Earnhardt Fan: Much bigger than expected, This 8 inch composite is as titled.
  • Tribute Ornament(s): Two Globes. One Silver with the Foundation Logo. The other black with Gold Signature and text "Forever the Man, Forever the Fan"
  • Gentlemen Start Your Engines (Motorsports Editions): I especially like the #3 mug Santa is using and the 1/24th car in the toy sack. This piece is #2222 of the run.
  • 2007 Edition 2001 Goodwrench: A new 2001 Monte Carlo in an inverted DE Foundation triangle.
  • 2006 Edition 2001 Goodwrench: A new 2001 Monte Carlo in a half moon red signature.
  • 2001 Goodwrench Ornament(s): Three similar Christmas ornaments, all showing the 2001 Sonix car that Dale drove for the February 18th Daytona 500. Unlike the paint scheme for the remainder of the 2001 season, this particular collectible contains the Sonix logo on the rear quarter panel. Each also has Dale's seven championships listed on the back. One was sent by Dwayne, possibly as a play to regain favour after a cruel and heartless prank he played during a mission to get a Michael Waltrip autograph at PIR. The second came with the 1994 Winston Cup Trophy Ornament. The third came with what I thought would be a Dale Earnhardt helmet. It ended up being a NASCAR Winston Cup Helmet Ornament.

Stuffed Bears (mostly)

  • Pit Pal Beanie Bear: a smaller bear, part of a multi-item auction. Looks like an Earnhardt Fan
  • #3 DE Black Beanie with Racing Stripe: from Gold'N'Bears
  • Dale Earnhardt 1979 ROY Beanie: Rookie of the Year variety from Gold'N'Bears
  • Goodwrench DE Black Beanie: with "Dale" on foot. Salvino
  • #3 DE Black Beanie: with checkered flags on foot. Salvino
  • Suction Bear: a Salvino Bammer. In theory this would stick to a car window.
  • Dale Bear: Not a stuffed bear, Not quite sure it is ceramic. Maybe a composite resin. Dale with the 7 championships listed, holding a black chevy.

Boyd's Bears

  • Boyd's Pencil Holder: This Ceramic Dale Bear is leaning against a stack of tires that double as a pen and pencil holder.
  • Boyd's Dale with Little Fan: This item shows as #16 of 839. I am not planning on collecting the Boyd's series, but I took a liking to this piece.

Fridge Items (from top to bottom, left to right)

  • Legends of the Fridge Magnet: This one has Dale in one of his poses, and it's a magnet and it is sitting on the door of my BLACK mini fridge.
  • Earnhardt #2 1979 Magnet: Custom Made from a bear tag and a spare magnet. Same with the #3 beside it.
  • Magnetic Race Hood: From Dale the Movie, this came with a raced 1988 1/64th Aerocoupe
  • Magnetic Camo Hood: Possibly fictional, this GWSP Realtree hood came with a specially painted 1997 Monte Carlo. Don't think it actually existed.
  • Magnetic Elvis Hood: Based on the 2009 Vegas Elvis/Dale Tribute Car. Came with a 2009 1/64th Monte Carlo
  • Magnetic 2010 Salute to Dale #3 Wrangler Hood: Based on the 2010 Impala raced at Daytona by Dale Jr. Came with the 1/64th Impala.
  • Fan Waves Suction Sign: A suction cup 'waving' 2001 GM Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo window sign.
  • #3 And Dale Earnhardt Signature Clings: White #3 and Black Signature Static Cling (Looks Good).
  • Memorial Magnets: 2 small magnets with one of the memorial pictures from 2001 on it.
  • Candy Stickers: A set of 5 small and 5 medium stickers made into magnets. These came from the Race Candy banks.
  • Buttons: A set of Small Buttons with Pins or Magnets. 3 are on the fridge
  • Legacy Foundation Pewter Badge: This pewter Badge came with the 3rd (of 5) Legacy Monte Carlo Die Casts. I took an old Fridge magnet and used strong double sided tape to create this new magnet.
  • 1997 Plus Bottle Opener: This magnetic marvel has a pop-of and twist-off bottle opener combination on the underside.
  • 2004 Foundation Fridge Calendar: Self explanatory
  • Custom Magnets: a nice set of 9 images

Window Ornament

  • Free Standing #3 Car Ornament: I tried hanging this from my Beer fridge, but the suction cup if not in the best of shape.

Odd's Display Case Plus

In the Case from left to right in columns:

  • Car Light Switch Plate: Slightly different than the hood variant, this is in the shape and paint scheme of a GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo.
  • Hologram and AuthenTicket: This is a hologram card with a faux Ticket; the Ticket is in the Autograph and picture book
  • 24kt Gold Plated Butane Lighter: A butane lighter, gold plated, showing Dales 7 championship years, with an outline pose of the The Intimidator.
  • #3 Dale Earnhardt 7 Time NASCAR Champion Key Chain: Goes with my Belt Buckle and several Mugs.
  • #3 Dale Earnhardt 7 Time NASCAR Champion Belt Buckle: I even have a belt to go with it and wore it (once).
  • 1999 Daytona 500 Pin: Came with a Daytone set including a ticket and movie (VHS).
  • Nintendo 64 N64 NASCAR 2000 Racing: I don't have a Nintendo, but I do have a Nintendo game with the #3 Goodwrench Monte Carlo on it.
  • Cake Decoration Kit: This mini flag bearing Dale's signature came with a 2001 Daytona Sonix die cast. Kind of odd that they would use the paint scheme from Dale's final race on a cake but then I suspect the cake kit company wasn't really thinking that hard when they selected the car.
  • Fan Fueler 200 MPH Crank Bait: A dual hook fishing lure in the Bass Pro Shops theme.
  • Fan Fueler Bass Pro Knife: an accompanying fishing knife.

In front of the case:

  • Matryoshka (Russian Nesting Doll): From a local source here on Vancouver Island, the Matryoshka (or Russian Nesting Doll), is one of the most popular and endearing examples of Russion Folk Art. All of that aside, lets face it, I have it because Dale is on it. I dont have it open because the inner pieces are not of Dale.
  • Acrylic Highbanks Mirror: This small outline of the famous #3 has a mirror back and sits on a slotted Nascar stand.
  • Musical Glitter Globe: This was spotted by Wally's other at a local Hallmark Store. Dwayne identified the song as the Beatles "You Can Drive My Car". The Car inside the globe is a 1/50th 2001 Goodwrench Plus Monte Carlo. The Glitter in this 'snow globe' included mini checkered-flags and coloured glitter that resembles winner circle confetti.

Diecast Tins

These are ostensibly collector tins that contain diecasts, except for the Candy tin which contains candy:

  • 1980 Coke Can: This Coke can opens using the pull tab and is how I obtained the Busch 1980 Coke 1/64th.
  • Coke Machine: This Coke machine bearing Dale's likeness mirrors an actual coke machine made during the era with a variety of drivers on them. This one may not have been actually made as it represents his Motegi uniform, not WInston cup. Inside is a chromatic 1988 Coke Special 1/64th diecast (still inside).
  • Candy Tin" I found this by accident at the local Save-On Foods. I saw a Jeff Gordon #24 Dupont Chevrolet Collectors Tin sitting on candy display and found a box of cars a few feet away. I was quite pleased to actually find the #3 Goodwrench Chevrolet as the last time I saw such things, all that was left was Gordon. Inside are some individually wrapped (looks like chocolate) candy, also in #3 foil. This is the 2001 Goodwrench Plus paint scheme that Dale never actually drove. I received a second unopened to go with it as a Christmas gift.
  • Wanted - One Tough Customer: This Sam Bass artwork Tin contains the 1999 Wrangler and GWS Monte Carlo's
  • Oreo Cookie: This Oreo cookie contained my 2001 Oreo 1/64th Diecast, one of the few ways to get it back then.

Odd's and Ends

Miscellaneous Items from the collection that don't really go with anything else. From left to right, in columns:

  • Foundation Toothbrush:Two actually.
  • Chip Clip: A clip intended for sealing unfinished bags of potato chips, or the like. First off, I never have an unfinished bag of ships, and secondly, it needs to not be used, damaged, marred, etc.
  • Floss: This came with the toothbrush. A 1/64th like car shaped Floss dispenser.
  • CD Holder A 24 CD Holder with a stamp of 'The Man' and the championship years.
  • Silly Slammer (Pit Crew): A slammer. You drop the Helmet (or Slam it down) and you hear the pit crew exclaiming they have "Won the Daytona 500 but lost the car for a year". The other saying appears to be something to do with pitting.
  • VIP Pass CD A boxed set with a V.I.P. Pass CD containing exclusive interviews with Dale and other bonus computer bits. Comes with a 1/43rd 2000 Goodwrench Monte Carlo.
  • 40 Piece Art Set (2): Crayons, Pencils, Felt Markers, an eraser, a sharpener, and Water based glue, all in a three tier box showing the good old number 3.
  • Elmohardt: A bold and one might suggest reckless maneuver by one of my staff rendered Elmohardt. Dangerously close to the line, this Elmo Pull Back Scooter has been customized. Elmo sports some plastic gargoyles, a snazzy moustache and is festooned with the #4 (applying #3 would have just been too much). Elmo's T suggests "4 is... Ellamo'than3!" and the scooter body proclaims "You're on my team!" and is signed "Elmohardt" in an almost sacrilegious rendition of the intimidators signature. This truly is (and had better remain) one of a kind. .

Banks

Also shown are the 1993 Winton Cup Hauler and the Prevost Bus. They are also both mini banks, but are shown separately with the Haulers

  • 1994 Snap On Pit Wagon (#??): This is a 1/16th Pit Wagon Bank. This is about the only bank big enough to use out of the collection.
  • 25TH Anniversary Nascar Gas Pump Bank: This is a 1/16th Gas Pump in the Silver (25th) Anniversary Colours. It is actually a coin bank and will hold $10 in quarters. The gas pump goes up with the coins.
  • #3 GM Wrangler Jeans Gas Pump Bank: This is a 1/16th Gas Pump in the 1998 Wrangler Anniversary Colours. Also a coin bank that will hold $10.
  • 1993 F16 Top Gun Bank: This is a 1/48th (or thereabouts) F16 Falcon with the Top Gun and #3 Goodwrench Racing Markings. We know this is a 1993 edition because it has 6 Time Champion on the wings. The exhaust nozzle opens up a small bank in the fuselage (too small to dare putting money in).
  • 1995 Golf Cart Bank (01774): This is a 1/18th (or thereabouts) Golf Cart with the #3 Goodwrench Racing Markings. Behind the seat there is a coin slot but as usual, too small to ever actually use.
  • 16 Piece Box of Racing Car Banks: 6 Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Candy, Sticker and Collectible "Banks, along with Gordon and Johnson.I kept the Earnhardt's.
  • Piggy Bank: A tiny Piggy Bank festooned with #3.
  • 1997 Prevost Bus Bank: Without a doubt, a hard piece to get at a reasonable price - the 1997 Prevost Bus Bank.

  • The Ride of their Lives DVD

Pen Knives

  • Intimidator Rolls a Seven (#3960): This 'Ivory' handled knife has Dale's image, signature and his championship years on the shaft. On the blade are two dice with Intimidator Rolls a 7. Also a Bear Hunter stamp. This one is super sharp.
  • Like Clockwork (#0398): Actually a reference to GM Goodwrench Service, with the GM logo's on the blade. This is numbered piece "0398"
  • In Memory Set of Three: Three Lock Knives, each with a different scene or montage depicted.
  • Tribute Knife: A nicely packaged piece. The emblem fell off but I have superglue.
  • Knife and Key Chain: A Earnhardt "looking" set in a Tin Car, The #3 is wrong but the knife ha the right symbols. I suspect a "knock-off"
  • Fan Fueler Bass Pro Knife: A neat little penknife; the knife folds into the car quite convincingly. (In the Display Case)
  • GM Goodwrench Knfe: An uncolored metallic lock knife in the image of the #3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet.

Collector Card Sets

  • Legacy Victories Collector Cards Tin Boxed Set: A gift from Dwayne on his visit in November, 2004. This nicely boxed set contains collector cards depicting each of Dale's Cup Victories, along with details of each.

Time Pieces

  • GM Goodwrench Dale Earnhardt Wall Clock: Standard battery operated wall clock with a background showing the 2000 #3 and Dale's Simpson Open faced Helmet.
  • Dale Earnhardt Race Clock (#022565): A Dale Earnhardt Race Clock. Automatically plays race sounds each hour as the car rotates around the track. I bought batteries for this and ran it a few times, but the clock mechanism was shot and didn't manage to keep going for over an hour. My repair attempts didn't help. :(
  • Headlight Alarm Clock: I'm not sure if this is a headlight or a speedometer. Either way it is a clock and it has a working alarm.
  • Backlit Projection Alarm Clock: This alarm clock has a laser that projects the time on the ceiling along with the #3 Logo and Dale's signature. I use it even though the alarm itself is a bit low and weak.
  • Pocket Watch in Tin Tire: A Heavy Pocket Watch with an image of the intimidator. Comes with a watch fob chain and a leather belt case.
  • Gold Pocket Watch in Cherry Wooden Case: A nice little item with In Memory and the #3 logo on the face and the Box having the dates of Dales Birth and Death in Gold on the inside
  • Armchair Watch: A real GameTime #3 watch in a fake mini Armchair shaped holder. This is a heavy watch.
  • Official NASCAR Watch in Tin: Similar to the Armchair watch, but not quite the same.
  • Dale Earnhardt Alarm Clock: A little battery operated alarm clock
  • Sportivi #3 Watch: University of Notre Dame #3 Sports Watch. I actually wear this now.

Time Pieces II

  • #3 Car Clock: A newer car sounds themed Race Clock. Automatically plays different sounds every hour (12 or 24 variants). All from the #3 car recorded at Richard Childress Racing. From chassis #39. Built in 1998 as one of the first super-speedway cars for the new Monte Carlo. Tested Talldega in April 1998. Raced Talladega in April 1998. Started 2nd, ran 144 laps until the wreck with Bill Elliott, when The Man burnt his moustache. Chassis then used to practice hanging the 2000 body and moved to the show car division. Currently the 2000 GM Goodwrench Servcie Plus Monte Carlo.
  • Resin Deck Clock: another new timepiece. A fairly solid resin clock - open face so the second hand needed minor correction prior to setting the battery.

Chuggers (Stacked), From the Top Down

  • Insulated Can Holder: The standard insulated can holder, with Dale's signature and the GM Goodwrench Services branding.
  • Helmet Mug: A Plastic Insulated Coffee Mug shaped like Dale's Goodwrench Racing Helmet. Not clear one could effectively drink out of it even if one was so inclined.
  • Stainless Steel Cozy: A stainless steel insulated can holder, with the #3 Symbol and Dale's signature (From Random).
  • Burger King Collection: Plastic but still cool. The Man, The Championships, The Machine and Burger King and NASCAR.
  • The Intimidator Cup: A good solid black color with a raised and embossed Pewter 'The Intimidator' component.
  • Intimidator Shot Glass: A black shot glass with red test of Dale's Signature on one side and "Intimidator" on the other
  • Number 3 Mug: A nice gray tone mug with the stylized #3.
  • Foundation Shot Glass: A clear shot glass with the Foundation logo
  • Embossed Signature Mini Mug: A very tiny variety of the Embossed Signature Mug
  • 7 Time Champ Shot Glass: A clear shot glass with the outline of Dale and each of his championship years listed.
  • Dale Image Mug (x2): A 2003 Christmas gift, this has a picture of dale in race mode. The back shows the number 3 and the trademark signature. With it, a faded or purposefully browned version of the same
  • Lug Nut Mug and Shot Glass: This heavy Lug Nut shaped mug has an embossed likeness of Dale on one side and an a stylized #3 on the other. It's companion is a shot glass. Underneath are the NASCAR 50th Anniversary Symbol.

Chuggers, From Left to Right

  • 1994 Championship Mug: A gold rimmed coffee mug depicting the 1994 Lumina Chevrolet. May represent 6 or 7 chamipnships.

Tankards

  • Embossed Signature Mug: A 2004 Christmas gift, this has an embossed #3 on one side and Dale's stylized signature on the back.
  • Ceramic Stein: Showing the Intimidator, this bas relief stein features raised racing images.
  • 1980 Winston Cup Champion Tankard: Not sure if this is a period or retro piece, but this tankard commemorates Dales first Championship. Very Cool.
  • Franklin Mint Collector Tankard (Stein): Featuring a full color image of Dale and his Chevrolet Monte Carlo, this is the hallmark component of the Chugger collection. The cast lid features Dale's signature and his famous Number 3 in gold plate. The Thumb piece is in the shape of a gear shifter.
  • The Intimidator Tall Mug: This is almost stein-like, other than it has no hinged lid. A good solid black color with a raised and embossed 'The Intimidator' component.

Fun and Games (from back to front, left to right)

  • Monopoly: This is the Dale Earnhardt Monopoly game. I purchased this the year before his death. The 1976 #96 Ford is one of the cars pictured inside (as a property), which is how I come to believe such a paint scheme exists.
  • 200 Piece 1997 Puzzle: A 200 piece puzzle of Dale and the 1997 Plus Monte Carlo. I'm going to leave this one boxed.
  • 1999 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet Monte Carlo: This is a Winners Circle Puzz3d (3D Puzzle). It took about 2 hours to sort out and put together and, since experience shows that once taken apart these things deteriorate, it will stay constructed as is. This was located and sent to me by Crew Chief Dwayne Dwibbley from the Edmonton office.
  • Megablocks Dale Earnhardt Sr Building Set (1/29th): The 1999 Last Lap goes "Lego-like" and even include a tiny Dale driver and winning flag stand.
  • Fan Fueler Squirt Wrench It's just a water pistol. I couldn't make it squirt water, but then that's not relevant.
  • Mini Skateboard: I had often though how cool it would be to get a mini-skateboard of #3. Of course, I didn't know they actually existed. It is leaning against the rear quarter panel of the 99 GWSP

Card Sets

The premise is a collector tin with 2 decks of Cards. I have 3 separate sets; 1 Signature, 1 Intimidator, and 1 Coca Cola themed. To go with it, the addition of Dale Earnhardt Poker Chips in a personalized case. Three single decks of Cards (one duplicate) are also shown, including an (original) Wrangle theme deck. The last item is a real Las Vegas casino chip with Dale's image on both sides.

Sports Items

It's not like I am going to actually start doing anything athletic, but

  • Nerf Football: Black and Silver. Perfect for the Superdome.
  • Duffle Bag: Again, not likely to use, but the Red and White bordered duffle bag shows what looks like the 1995 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo.
  • Golf Balls: Looks to be about 8 Golf balls in a GM Goodwrench Faux Car box. Each Ball has Dale's signature and the Number 3 stamped on it. They are Dunlop DDH 110's.
  • Raceball: An Allstar Marketing Corp baseball in Silver and Black with the trademark #3, Dales signature and titled The Intimidator.
  • Quick Shift Dart Set: A Great Lakes Dart Manufacturing's Dale Earnhardt Quick Shift Dart Set, with a belt clip case, two sets of flights, and a Dart mechanic Wrench.

Pins

  • 1990 Championship Pin Collection: A set of 5 (large) Pins commemorating Dales 4 Championships of 1980, 1986, 1987 and 1990.
  • Buttons: A set of Small Buttons with Pins or Magnets. 3 are on the fridge
  • Intimidator #3 NASCAR Lapel Pin

Picnic Set

  • Wrapped Schrader Cushion: This is actually a Kenny Schrader race cushion. When we made the Dale Flag we had material left over so, we transformed the cushion into a Dale Earnhardt cushion.
  • Insulated Water Bottle: Much cooler than expected, this is a very simple plastic bottle in a zipped insulating foam. The spout is push lock and has a #3 helmet base. The insulated wrap as Dale's signature and good old #3.
  • Collapsible Cooler: A 1996 GM Goodwrench Service Monte Carlo picnic cooler. This flattens down or opens up to have a top hatch cooler with front and rear pockets. Each wheel opens as well, although I am hesitant to suggest what one would store in them.
  • #3 Salt And Pepper Shakers: The disposable sort, as in for Picnics. (As if they will ever be used or even removed from the collection).
  • Black Dog Collar and Read Leash: No, really! Bought on two separate occasions, I have a Black #3 Intimidator Dog Collar and a Red #3 Intimidator Dog Leash.
  • Koozies: Can Coolers, actually - 10 red non stick cooler wraps, with the #3 logo, Dale's signature and the words Weekend Warrior stamped on the outside.

Lunch Time (top down, left to right)

  • 7 Time Champion Tin Lunch Box:A Tin Lunch Box with a hinged lid. Bearing the #3 Gm Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo and the 7 championship years.
  • Intimidator Beverage Holder: A 10 Can cooler for favorite race track beverages.
  • Fueler (Sports Bottle): A fuel can shaped plastic water bottle with a wrap around picture of Dale.
  • Earnhardt Tin Lunch Box: A Tin Lunch Box with a hinged lid. Slightly damaged by Customs/Airline in transit. Undoubtedly its a weapon of mass intimidation.
  • Lunch Bag: A 1999 GM Goodwrench Service Monte Carlo Vinyl lunch bag.

Cereals

  • Kelloggs Corn Flakes (2 Boxes): More real cereal (unopened) from December 13th and 14th, 1995, celebrating Dale's 7 Winston Cup Championships.
  • Kellogg's The Kid and The Champ Frosted Mini-Wheats: This is a real box of cereal (unopened) from June 28, 1996. Notice the Similarity to the die cast collectible below it.
  • Wheaties (3 Boxes): For the 1997 May 17th Winston Select, these 3 real cereal (unopened) from 1997 with best before dates in December 1997, celebrating the running of the Wintson and Dale's standing as the first sports figure to feature on the packaging of a cereal product. From 4 set special box theme, this set are for the large Wheaties, Honey Frosted Wheaties and Crispy Wheaties and Raisins boxes.
  • Wheaties (3 Boxes - 2 not shown): Also for the 1997 May 17th Winston Select, these 3 real cereal (consumed) from 1997 complete the 4 set special box theme. This set includes the normal size Wheaties, Honey Frosted Wheaties and Crispy Wheaties and Raisins boxes. The normal Wheaties showing a helmeted Dale is the only box for which there is not a full unopened version in the collection.
  • Kellogg's The Kid and The Champ Frosted Mini-Wheats: Sporting front and back pictures of Dale and Jeff, with a half and half race car from the front, this mini-wheats box has the black window 1995 Goodwrench Monte-Carlo, and I have to assume the black window 1995 Jeff Gordon Dupont #24 inside, visible through cut-outs in the box.

Liquids

  • Sundrop (2): These Series 1 & 2 bottles represent Dale's 1979 and 1980 years.
  • Coke Bottle: From 1998, showing Dale as one of the Coke drivers.
  • Bottle Jersey: a #3 jersey cooler.
  • Coasters: A tin set containing 5 Dale Earnhardt metal coasters.

Candy Bars

A set of 4, 3 Hershey's and 1 Kit-Kat. Not available in Canada of course.

Pens 'n' Pads

A collection of writing or recording items. From left to right, back to front, mostly:

  • Dale Earnhardt Clipboard: From the NASCAR Cafe, good for keeping track of race statistics and things of that nature.
  • Postmarked Envelopes: 10 RCR Envelopes sporting the #3, a Dale Earnhardt 39 cent stamp and postmarked from the RCR Station. I am not sure if these would actually work or not.
  • Post It's: Normal Post It notes from 3M, except these are official NASCAR sanctioned Dale Earnhardt #3 Post It Notes.
  • Pen: I wandered through a memorabilia store at a local mall in the off chance there might be something Earnhardt related. I was actually hoping for the #3 Earnhardt Dr. street sign, but I found a pen instead. As I did not have it, I rectified...
  • Dale Earnhardt US Dollar:Yup, someone pasted a picture of Dale over a US $1 Bill.
  • $50 Million DE Dollars: 50 Dale Earnhardt One Million Dollar Bills - Dale on the front, Dale and Monte Carlo on back. Not really legal tender.
  • Draw Erase Board: Magic Draw Erase Board
  • Pencils: Goes with the pen! #3 on one side and Dale Earnhardt on the other.
  • Post (Note) Cards: Dale Earnhardt Post Cards, no doubt meant to be filled with inanities and posted to folks that would in no way be worthy.
  • 2001 License Plate: This Mini License Plate came with a 2001 die cast. It was the mini license plate that I had to have but even so, the die cast itself seems a 2000 - 2001 hybrid that is too close to call unique, but does not share decals in common with the other cars.
  • Hologram Ticket: Companion ticket to the Hologram in the display case.
  • Foil Valentine Seals: Found at a grocery store as part of a 2005 NASCAR Foil Valentine Seals set.
  • Personal Note Cube: 400 Sheets of #3 Goodness.
  • Photo / Autograph Book: A Dale Earnhardt Photo and Autograph Book. As I have no idea where my Dale Earnhardt Photo's are (the very few I had), seems to me this will be an excellent place to put any special cards and small items, including some of the items listed here.

Photo Album

The Album itself has no pictures in it as I don't have any and the few postcards I have a too large. It does hold the following and the ticket stubs from all the races I have been to.

  • Pit Stop Wagon Picture Frame: A pit wagon themed picture frame. Very nice.
  • #3 Goodwrench Photo Picture Frame: A driver themed picture frame. I inserted my 1994 picture of Dale with the GM Goodwrench Lumina.
  • #3 Wincraft Racing Temporary Tattoos: #3 and #3 with Signature variants, 7 in all, Temporary Tattoos.
  • Cheque Book Covers: Two cheque book covers; one a custom made similar to one of my flags.
  • Foil Valentine Seals: Found at a grocery store as part of a 2005 NASCAR Foil Valentine Seals set.

Stickers and Clings

Some stickers have already been applied to the back and side of the Whump-3 Sonata (i.e. #3 Dale Earnhardt White Signature sticker - Hmmmm. White Sticker, Pearl White Car). However, others have moved into to replace and bolster the collection. The #3 The Man cling was obtained from the NASCAR Cafe in the Sahara at Las Vegas. Ostensibly for the back window of a car, it's unlikely to get used. The 2 Goodwrench Monte Carlo Clings, the 2 #3 Logo's, the stylized #3/DE Signature, and round Black Sticker with the White #3 are stored in the portfolio for future consideration. As I have doubles of some of these, they will likely make it to the car one day. A recent addition is 12 "The Intimidator" Bumper Stickers. The penultimate addition is the Dale Earnhardt for President! Yay! The last edition is an Untra White #3 Cling.

Flags

  • DE Flag: This is actually a piece of cloth that we found in Walmart. You can/could get yards of cloth to make cushions, bed sheets, etc from. I got a piece and we sewed it up into a mini flag.
  • #3 Window Flag: An official flag for attaching to closed car windows, not that mine will ever face the elements.
  • #3 Winnebago Flag: An official NASCAR 8' by 5' Black #3 Dale Earnhardt Flag for my Winnebago. Now I just have to buy a Winnebago.
  • #3 Pennant: Speaks for itself, actually my first Pennant or any nature that I can recall, since college days

Car Stuff

A collection of street car related items:

  • #3 Car Sun Shade: What is it with Car related items. Initial attempts to get this yielded a Dale Jr Sun Shade. Te seller corrected the mistake and all is well, but now I have to decide what to do with the Jr. one.
  • #3 Seat Cover: I wasn;t sure if this was a set of seat covers or just one (it was just one). It goes over what appears to be a bucket seat. I could probably get it over the Front seat of the Sonata, but then it would get work and dirty and I suspect actually getting it in place would be traumatic for the both of us. maybe one day if I every buy a Dale Earnhardt real car.
  • Air Freshener: Vanilla Scented with a dashboard mounting. It's not like I would actually put this in my Hyundai (or any other car), but it's cool to have.
  • Top Driver Tire Gauge: A tire pressure gauge with a #3 helmet valve stem connector and stylized markings along the pressure guage.
  • Dale Earnhardt Antenna Ball: Initial attempts to get this yielded a Dale Jr Antenna Ball. It was stolen from Whump3. A second attempt was more successful.
  • Auto Emblem: Stylized #3 and Dale Earnhardt Signature auto emblem for affixation to a vehicle.

Car Stuff 2

A (second) collection (due to ease of photography) of street car related items:

  • Goodwrench Hood Air Freshener: A simple hood shapewr air freshener.

Rugs N Stuff

  • Mega Blanket: This is a super cool 5 by 43 blanket showing the man in blacks #3 Goodwrench Monte-Carlo! Dwayne is getting into my serious good books by delivering such tithing.
  • Micro Raschel Throw Blanket: This is a 50 by 60 throw blanket showing Dale and the 2000 #3 Monte Carlo.
  • Non-Skid Tufted Rug: This is a 20 by 30 non skid rug. Sort of like a doormat, except that would be terribly wrong.
  • Intimidator Cushion: Another peice of Fabric turned into a Cushion of Pilow. Inside is a real cushion, not a Schrader seat cushion like my other one,
  • Fleece Blanket: 2009 release of the GM Goodwench Monte Carlo on a Fleece Blanket

Pale Popcorn

  • Bucket (Pail): A 5qt Tin Pail.
  • Popcorn Bank: A 1997 20" bottle of Popcorn. With the slot in the cap, this turns into a bank, assuming one were brave enough to eat popcorn from 1997.

More Odd's and Ends

  • Squishy Pillow: You can scrunch it (but who would dare) and it returns to its normal shape
  • Wind Chimes: What can one say...

Tissue

  • Kleenex: A 2000 CM Goodwrench Service Monte Carlo box of Kleenex. Unopened. And it never will be.
  • Tissue Couch: Really cool custom knitted couch to house a box of tissues. This surround bears the colors of the Intimidator and has three cushions imprinted with his image. Freakin' special.

Wallet Plus

  • Men's Wallet: A Man's Wallet?.
  • 1996 Sprint Phone Card: An unused $3US Sprint Pre-paid Phone Card from 1996 bearing the Intimidators image.
  • Dale Earnhardt NC Drivers License: A Celebrity Drivers License. Too cool and just has to go with the wallet.
  • Wallet Pouch: A securable wallet for hanging around the neck when travelling.
  • KWIKSET #3 Key Blank: A blank key with #3 on one side and Dale Earnhardt Signature.
  • Key Ring: A #3 Checkered Flag Key ring, now affixed to the above key.

Smoking Gear

  • 2 Signature lighters: Actually, two removable and refillable zippo's in black cases with a #3 decal affixed. Cool, none the less.
  • Ash Tray: Embedded in glass, the #3 Logo and Dale's trademark signature. This will stay pristine, as there's "No Smoking Allowed".

Lottery Tickets

  • State Lottery Tickets: A variety of real life (but now voided through time) lottery tickets and proofs. States include South Dakota, Maine, the hoosier Lottery, Iowa and 2 others.

Trains

  • Atlanta 1996 Train Set: A six piece set celebrating the 1996 Atlanta Olympics consisting of the engine (not motorized), coal car, car carrier and the 1996 Atlanta paint scheme Monte Carlo Chevrolet, a tanker car and a caboose.
  • K2-1956 Train Set: A three piece set for the 1956 K2 Car - Earnhardt's first ride.
  • 1964 First Asphalt Win Train Set: A three piece set for the 1964 Docs Cycle Center Chevelle - Earnhardt's first asphalt win.

The Wall

1991 Mac Tools Sam Bass Poster

I had the 18" by 36" poster mounted and laminated onto particle board. The poster itself was a free throw in on an eBay auction. Given it was for promotional use only and not for sale, I suspect these were displayed where Mac Tools were sold and this is close to a one of a kind. The poster came rolled up and there are some creases that the pressing process did not fix, however, not in bad condition for an item from 1991.

Unsurpassed Excellence

This matted print shows Dale and Richard in a piece of work by Doug Meythaler with the number 3 1994 Lumina and I suspect the 1994 #43 STP Pontiac. This also has a card showing Richard and Dale at the track. It is a numbered piece (11827 of 12500). The piece is titled "Unsurpassed Excellence" and contains the following text.

"In 1994, Dale Earnhardt joined Richard Petty as the only other seven time winner of the Winston Cup Championship. Over the past thirty-seven years, the number "3" and "43" cars have reached victory lane with unequalled frequency. Much of the popular success that NASCAR now enjoys can be attributed to these two individuals and their desire to succeed both on and off the track"

7 Time Champions: A set of two cars shown on the picture above. One is Dales 79 Crane Cams #2 Malibu; the other is Richard Petty's #43 Malibu. I am not sure that Petty drove the Malibu, but then I don't follow Petty. I actually got this as a bonus with the Unsurpassed Excellence Print. Richard took the 64, 67, 71, 72, 74, 75, and 79 Championships. Dale took the 80, 86, 87, 90, 91, 93 and 94 Championships. In my view, Dale would have gotten an 8th.

The Final Ride

Originally I purchased this in a retail chain store somewhere in Alberta. This matted "digital" picture shows the #3 Hauler returning home on February 19, 2001. Underneath is a story told by the photographer of how no one would pass the hauler out of respect. There was a strong suggestion this was a true story as Dwayne heard about it at the time. Later, however, (2010 actually) I was contacted by the photographer himself, Steve James. Unfortunately my copy was a counterfeit as are many others - for details see www.thefinalridephoto.com. Well that's just wrong so now I have a personally signed one by Steve himself, in my collection. I would urge other's to also ensure that theirs is authentic, in memory and out of respect for Dale. He was always very protective of his image and copyright. We should expect the same from others <end sermon> :).

Winston Cup Champion Matchbooks

A 25th Anniversary of Winton Cup special. Matchbooks covers showing the champions from 1971 to 1994 (Missing one - that's 24). Extra's of Dale.I framed these.

Intimidator Hood Banner

This close to 1/2 scale flag/banner shows the Intimidator and the black #3.

Race Hoods

  • 7x Champion Race Hood: This 1/4 scale race hood shows the Intimidator and list his championship years.
  • Sunday Money Hood: This 1/4 scale race hood represents Dale 76th Win at Talladega. This was a No Bull $1,000,000 bonus race, which was good for Dale and a lucky fan.

Wall Banner

A 30 by 48 (approx) hanging wall banner showing Dale, the RCR #3, the 1998 Daytona Plus Chevrolet and Dales signature.

Victory

Ostensibly (minimally inferred), this 8x10 photo is a pose of Dale at the 1998 Daytona. The Plus paint scheme in the car photograph is definitely the 1998 season starter Plus car. What I was not aware of upon bidding for this item is that it contains an inspirational message, Not perhaps as good as message from the Las Vegas 2000 race guide, but not bad. "Victory: The Road to Victory Requires the Heart of a Champion".

Commemorative Plaques

The first of these is similar to the Looking Back Plaque described below, but placed on 'marbled' wood with a metal plaque identifying stats about Dale. The second has a different photo insert, a raised collectors car and a raised emblem of a helmet, steering wheel, and checkered flag.

Looking Back: This plaque has what I assume to be an 8x11 card, albeit specially made for this purpose. Nicely protected by plexi and mounted on a reasonable facsimile of wood, with an engraved plate, the piece is actually entitled "Reflections". The verbiage reads "looking back. knowing that you gave it you all.... win or lose, you finish a champion". The engraved part states "Thanks for the Memories. As part of a multi-item auction, this is an excellent find.

Adkins Prints

I call these Now and Then. These two framed prints are pencil sketches by Dale Adkins. Both feature a portrait of Dale and one of his cars. The first appears to be the 1979 unsponsored #2 car in which he won rookie of the year, but could be from 1980. The second is on the 1996 onwards era (I suspect 97).

Inspiration Series

A set of 4 plaques with pictures of Dale or the #3 GM Goodwrench with motivational statements.

  • Determination: The driving force that determines success.
  • Leadership: Lead, follow or get out of the way
  • Perseverance: To remain steadfast against all odds
  • Teamwork: A crew merging into a single force that is unstoppable

Ticket Stub Montage

A framed montage, with a Dale Earnhardt Signature and #3 background. Included is a picture of the 2000 #3 Monte Carlo, a foil card of The Intimidator, and Ticket Stubs from the 1998 Daytona 500, the 1996 Michigan Goodwrench Service Dealer 400, the 2000 Bristol goracing.com 500, and the 1994 Daytona Pepsi 400.

Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet (Custom)

  • Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet License Plate: I came across this while searching for the CR-5 Corvette. A seller with access to the paraphernalia used by Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet on Highway 16 South in Newton, North Carolina. This is one of the front license plates for vehicles sold out of the dealership.
  • Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Badge: As above
  • 1987 #56 Ernie Irvan Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet Monte Carlo: In 1987, Dale Earnhardt gave Ernie Irvan his break in NASCAR racing. Dale provided a car and sponsorship from his own Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet motors in Newton North Carolina. When I saw this, I decided to combine a few elements into a montage/gallery style piece.

Sam Bass Gallery Series

A number of Sam Bass artwork pieces were made in picture/hangings with an added touch of a die cast affixed to the frame. I believe there are only 4 in the series.

  • Pro Bass: This features Dale's 1998 Pro Bass Shops Monte Carlo, along with a gold etched picture of Dale next to two scenes of the 1998 Pro Bass Monte Carlo, one crossing the finishing line (ostensibly first).
  • Wrangler: This features Dale's 1999 Wrangler Monte Carlo, along with side by side's of Dale in 99 and 87 - "Wanted One Tough Customer".
  • Daytona 500: This shows Dale winning the 1998 Daytona 500 with the pit road line-up, victory donuts and an image of Dale in Victory lane. The feature die cast is, obviously, the 98 Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo.
  • RCR: This shows Dale and Richard, along with several of the RCR Cars, both Goodwrench and Wrangler, that Dale drove for Richard. The feature die cast is the 1996 Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo.

License Plates

  • Fan Fueler Monte Carlo License Plate: Showing a photo quality 2000 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo on a multi-colour background.
  • 2000 Monte Carlo License Plate: A somewhat used license plate showing the 2000 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo.
  • Legend License Plate: Obtained from the NASCAR Cafe in the Sahara at Las Vegas, this is the new legend (foundation) release of a picture license plate. The cool thing is that the lifetime Winston Cup stats are shown.
  • "The Man" #3 Dale Earnhardt Intimidator license plate wrap around a #3 Dale Earnhardt signature license plate: both plastic.
  • Dale Earnhardt Intimidator chrome metal license plate wrap around: In this case, wrapped around the famous Whump 3 plate that bears the signatures of Kenny Schrader, Randy Lajoie, Chad Little, Jeff Burton, Terry Labonte, Ricky Rudd, Bobby Hamilton and Jack Rousch. Some are starting to fade
  • 6 Cup Titles License Plate: Silver plate from 1993/1994 showing the 6 cup titles to date.
  • Intimidator: Showing the 1997 GM Goodwrench Plus car.
  • Intimidator: Showing the 1995 GM Goodwrench Plus car.

Street Signs

  • Dale Earnhardt Drive: This metal sign is something I had looked at for a number of years, and just recently ran across in a store here in town.
  • #3 Earnhardt Ave: A plastic sign with the famous #3.

Tin Signs

  • #3 Tin Sign: Tin sign bearing the trademark number 3 and DE signature. The black portion appears embossed with the GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo.
  • Dale Earnhardt Tin Sign: Tin sign showing an image of the Intimidator various championship cars around the edges.

Tin Signs 2

#3 Tin Sign: A tin plate sign bearing the #3 Goodwrench Chevy Monte Carlo.

Dale Earnhardt Only Sign

A plastic sign showing a Dale Earnhardt signature only Allowing Dale to turn left or possibly Telling Dale to Only turn left. Contributed by Wally, this sign went astray at work, purloined by those yet to be caught and punished.

Real Big Fathead Wall 'Sticker'

A gift from Wally, this is a life-size 72 x 30 Wall Picture of Dale striding (down pit road one assumes). I don't have a picture for this as I have nowhere to actually put it up - I will look to having it mounted for stand up capability.

  • 2 Bonus Pictures 8 1/2 x 11's of Dale; one of Dale with his Wheaties Car, a second with an Earnhardt pose

  • 2001 March - Legends Sports Memorabilia: Daytona Legends Vol 13, No 3
  • 2 Sam Bass print reproductions showing the 1998 Bass Pro Shops and 1995 Silver Select Monte Carlo's

Pinnacle Cards

The set of 4 Pinnacle Portrait 8.5x11 cards of Earnhardt (unopened).

Clothing

Jackets

  • 2001 Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Twill Jacket: More properly the 2000 Fire Suit Design but made for the 2001 Season. I purchased this in a town called Seaside along the Oregon coast on 2007. This is my favorite.
  • 2010 GWSP RCR Jacket: A new undertaking. with limited logos, this Black and Grey Scheme features the GWSP Logo, RCR Logo, #3 logo and Dale Earhardt's Signature. Purchased from a travelling sales RV along the strip in Vegas.
  • 2000 Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Twill Jacket: I purchased this at the 2000 Las Vegas UAW Daimler Chrysler 400. This was my first jacket. It has been professionally dry cleaned and normally sits safe and secure in my closet. I wear it for special occasions. It most appropriately goes with this part of the collection.
  • 2007/2008 Black Twill: Mostly Black with the Goodwrech Stripes and Goodwrech Logo across the front, much like the 2000 Twill. I got this one on eBay.
  • Dale Earnhardt Goodwrench Leather Jacket: I purchased this at Flagmania in Las Vegas when I went for the 2004 UAW Daimler Chrysler 400. This one was worn for over a year before heading to the closet. I have never owned a leather jacket before and can attest to the fact that they provide warmth (Which is good).

T-Shirts

  • 2002: A foundation series T-shirt; on the back they have a wall of signatures.
  • ???: An almost pit-crew shirt type.
  • 1997: An older "The Intimidator Rules" T-shirt found on eBay. Full color back and front.
  • 2000: "The Intimidator" with the car crashing through. The reverse shows the back of the car.

Caps and Hats

  • Leather Dale Earnhardt Caps (bottom row): 3 leather caps including one donated by my favorite cousin Gordon, a 7 time Champion hat is much more suitable for the wearing with my jacket. My 2000 white one can be closeted as I look lousy in White. A third Leather Visor was added as a gift by an excellent eBay seller - saflooringguy.
  • Dale Earnhardt Caps (top row): 2 regular caps - one a 7 time Champion that goes well with the Leather one and one I picked p in Vegas with a stylized signature and #3.
  • Dale Earnhardt Hardhat: For Pit Row, the construction site, or just sitting in front of the computer.
  • Toque: A Dale Earnhardt Signature / Red #3 Toque.
  •

Dale Earnhardt Sr Stenson Signature Cowboy Hat

An official Dale Earnhardt Licensed Stetson, size 7 1/8th which just fits, not that I am sure it will ever be allowed out in inclement weather :)

Jet Pack and Stocking

  • Christmas Stocking: a styliszed #3 Christmas Sticking. Came with Jr. (Not Shown)
  • Jet Pack: A #3 jetpack with two mesh side compartments.
  • Christmas Stocking: Unusual as I don't celebrate Christmas. This was a gift, likely a Christmas gift.

Laptop Bag

Not sure he ever used a laptop, but still :)

Tote

A manly tote/purse.

Carry On

A see through carry-on bag. Also ideal for track side.

Outer Wear

  • Fleece Hoodie: A recent gain from the Sahara NASCAR Race shop. S fleece Hoodie with the #3 and signature on the front.
  • #3 FANny PACKage: A Fanny Pack. This 1996 Monte Carlo clothing item came with 3 rolls of Kodak Gold film, thus FAN PACK marketing.
  • Gargoyles Not Earnhardt Signature or Silvered versions, but Gargoyles none the less. These things are surprisingly expensive for what they are, and are curved in such a way to make blurry vision even blurrier. I wear them when I have no real need to see what is going on.
  • #3 Intimidator Lanier: A present from Random at the 2010 Vegas Race, on the back are signatures by Ned Jarrett and Junior Johnson.
  • Sport Utility Gloves: A set of sung little outdoor gloves. They could be for gardening, or maybe racing.

Otherwear

  • Dale Earnhardt Silk Ties: These came in a set of 8 (3 and 5). 2 varieties are shown. As I have duplicates I wear these to work.
  • #3 Dale Earnhardt Pajama's: Found on the Vegas strip.
  • #3 Flags Mardi Gras Beads: A Black and Red Bead Necklace with 4 large #3 Flags - bigger than I thought it would be.

Pendants

Only one so far, really. An embossed pewter Intimidator Number 3.
