Perfect Pieced Triangles.
Making the grid.
- Determine the size of the finished a square you need. Add 7/8" to this measurement. For example if you want a 3" finished square you will need to mark the grid in 3 7/8" squares using this technique.
- Lay the two fabrics you have selected to make the half square triangles right sides together, with the lighter colour on top.
- Using a pencil and ruler , mark a grid. For example, if you need 40 half squares then make your grid of 5 across and 4 down 3 7/8 squares.
- Draw diagonal lines through every other square, continuously through the total number of rows you are making.
- On alternate diagonal rows draw corner to corner lines in the opposite direction.
Stitching.
- Stitch through both layers of fabric, a 1/4" on both sides of the diagonal lines. Stitch continuously as long as you can. When you have stitched one side go back down the other side in the opposite direction.
Cutting and Pressing.
- Cut triangles apart on every drawn line. You will get two pieced units from every square drawn. DO NOT CUT ON ANY STITCHING LINES.
You have created half square triangles that are neater, quicker, and more accurate than any other triangle and no bias seams to sew!!
