Dutchmans Puzzle - 12 1/2"

Fabric requirements for one block:

.1m light print

.1m medium print

.1m medium dark print

.1m dark print

(or scraps)

For one block cut:

Light, 12 - 3 1/2" squares.

Medium, 4 - 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares.

Medium dark, 4 - 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangles.

Dark, 4- 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangles.

On the light and medium 3 1/2" squares draw a line down the center diagonally, with a sharp pencil. This is your sewing line.

On the four medium dark rectangles place four of the light squares lining the outer edges, see dia.1

dia.1

Sew along the drawn line. Cut the excess of a 1/4" from the sewn line. Press to the light.

(If you wish you can sew a 1/2" from the sewn line and then cut down the middle, then you have some half square triangles for another project and are not wasting any fabric.)

Repeat for the other side. Press to the light. This is unit 1.

On the four dark rectangles place four of the light squares lining the outer edges as before.

Sew along the drawn line. Cut the excess of a 1/4" from the sewn line. Press to the light. Sew the medium print onto the remaining corner, see dia.2 This is now unit 2.

dia.2

Sew unit 1 to unit 2, see dia.3 Press seam open.

dia.3
