FABRICS

LIGHT (background)= 1m
COLOUR 1 (points, border and backing) =3m
COLOUR 2 (center squares and inner border) = 1m
BATTING

This is estimated as I haven't calculated it.

INSTRUCTIONS MAKE THE BLOCKS

Need 16 blocks in total.
Finished block size = 7 1/2" For each block cut:

= 8 - 2" half square triangles for each block (1 1/2" finished)
(4 grids of 10" square ppt's yields enough for 16 blocks)
= 4 - 2" (1 1/2" finished) squares
= 8 - 2" (1 1/2" finished) squares
= 5 - 2" (1 1/2" finished) squares

TABLE RUNNER

Sew four blocks in a row.
Cut 1 - 1 1/4" strip of light fabric and sew that to the top and bottom edges, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 1" strips of colour 2 fabric and sew them each side, press, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 1" strips of colour 2 fabric to the top and bottom, press, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 2" strips of colour 1 fabric to each side, press, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 2" strips of colour 1 fabric to the top and bottom edge, press, trim and square edges.
Cut 1 - 36 1/2" x 18 1/2" rectangle of batting.
Cut 1 - 36 1/2" x 18 1/2" rectangle of medium fabric for backing.
Place the backing wrong side to the batting and place the top right side to the backing. Stitch around the outer edges leaving a 4" space for turning. Clip corners and turn right side out. Press. Quilt as desired. Whip stitch opening. Put lable on!

FOR EACH PLACE MAT

Sew two blocks together side by side.
Cut 1 - 1 1/4" strip of light fabric and sew that to the top and bottom edges, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 1" strips of colour 2 fabric and sew them each side, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 1" strips of colour 2 fabric to the top and bottom, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 2" strips of colour 1 fabric to each side, trim and square edges.
Cut 2 - 2" strips of colour 1 fabric to the top and bottom edge, trim and square edges.
Cut 1 - 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" rectangle of batting.
Cut 1 - 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" rectangle of medium fabric for backing.
Place the backing wrong side to the batting and place the top right side to the backing. Stitch around the outer edges leaving a 4" space for turning. Clip corners and turn right side out. Press. Quilt as desired. Whip stitch opening. Put lable on!

TIP

If your your block size does not end up to be 7 1/2" finished don't worry!! just adjust the size of the strips, batting and backing accordingly and carry on!!
