1) 922 End, one of the hardiest apples on
the planet! It
has survived days of temperatures to -45C and a bit colder without
even
minor tip damage |
2) The first year's growth achieved by
grafting a new variety
onto Ranetka Crab rootstock. The rootstock had been planted the
previous year.

3) Some of my trees on Ranetka Rootstock,
one to seven years old.
|
7) Spartan on Ranetka rootstock with 18-10-32, and experimental apple,
grafted on the lower part of the tree. Spartan is not supposed to be a zone
3 apple, yet this tree has produced for the last 2 years for me!

8) Prairie Sun, a new release from the University of Saskatchewan, on Bud
490 semi-dwarf rootstock. Prairie Sun is extremely hardy, very productive,
has a small core, does not brown when cut, and is an excellent apple for
processing. |
9) Golden Uralean, an extremely hardy apple of probable Russian origin.
Excellent for pies and baking, reasonable for eating. Ripe by mid August in
central Alberta, needs thinning as it is very productive. |
