Trend Micro Virus Maps

If you cannot view a functional applet here, please read on...Transparentd

Details

For applet code that should work in most browsers, please go to Page 1 of this little demo. If you can view the intended Applet here, the links in it will not function to take you from this site, although the next page or two might. If your browser does not support this code, you may see an out-dated alternate image here instead. Also, if you do have both Java and JavaScript enabled for your browser, and still can't see anything here, you're probably not using Internet Explorer, in which case the next page should work for you. These next few pages are an example of how to tweak this code for Mozilla family browsers that have Java and JavaScript enabled, what the consequences are, and how to supply a reasonable alternative for those browsers that do not enable this scripting capability.

Return to d linkReturn to d linkDescription of the applet and alternate image.

It is a group of graphics that comprise a clickable map of the world which displays an encyclopedic list of the Top 10 virii (including Trojans and Worms) at the top right area of the 300 pixels wide by 601 pixels high applet, as reported to Trend Micro. When an entry in the list is selected, you are directed to their site for more information regarding that particular scourge.

There are four drop-down menus that span across the top. They are titled "View By", "Track", "Select Map" and "Time Period". Each menu lists multiple choices to further define your query. When a continent is moused-over on this interactive object, the list changes to reflect the Top 10 virii for that region. If a continent is then mouse-clicked, a map of that region is retrieved and additional text boxes appear to list the virii that affect countries and regions shown on the new map. These may appear in various places, depending on the map selection, and replace the encyclopedic list of the Top 10 with the Top two. The drop-down menus then interact to further define these new text boxes.

All virus names listed in the applet are clickable, hypertext links that will take you from this site to Trend Micro's site, where you will find a description of the particular malware. Use your browser's Back function or your Backspace key to return to this page if you leave here, use the F5 key of your keyboard (may require clicking on an "open" text area of the page) or the browser's Refresh button to refresh the map after selecting a continent for more virus information. You can also refresh the applet by selecting "Location" from the "View By" menu or by selecting "Worldwide" from the "Select Map" menu.

Note: Normally an image description would be placed on a separate page with a "longdesc" attribute included in the image element. Both are provided here (for example: descriptions.htm#vmp) in addition to an 'on page' description, which, even by itself, should adequately cover any issues for Accessibility for such a small file. If your browser does not support this Applet code you will see an out-dated sample image instead, and real-time or up-to-date alternative text versions of the data are not currently supported from Trend Micro or from this site. Also, this page will take an error for the code attribute in the object element if you test the validators against it. This may only be reparable from Trend Micro's end.

This page is intended for information and demonstration purposes only. It will not display the applet in the Mozilla family of browsers, and returns the error there is no attribute "code" from the validator page.
