ObiWan's Freeware Picks:
The Freeware distributed below are tools and utilities that the author has used to build this site or can be used to help setup and configure the LAN described within these pages. They are intended for free distribution by their creators and are offered here for the benefit of all. Please note that the BIND-PE and ICS site is not responsible for their usage.
You are asked to direct any and all questions regarding their implementation to the original writers. More links to informative sites can be obtained from the Table of Contents, in the Other Pages and External Links section near the bottom of the page. The following GO button will take you right to that section heading:
Simply click on the program icon to the left of the description of the FREE programs to download them to your computer, or to go to the author's site to obtain it, if that is what is required by the distributor.
Please read any accompanying text documents in the compressed .zip files. The first link will take you to a site where you can get a freely distributed data compression utility if you don't already have one:
FreeZip is a popular data compression utility which is free and is available from their site, if you don't already have a compression utility.
NetInfo is a nifty information utility that runs from a command line and can aid significantly in setting up any network. It is supplied by the authors of TreeWalk DNS for your convenience and can be used for many purposes, even if you don't intend to take advantage of installing your own "Personal DNS Server".
DNSRU (Domain Name System Research Utility) is freely distributed by Steve Gibson, and can be used to test your provider's DNS servers' speeds for comparison to localhost. Be sure to read the info within and visit the links to his site for more on DNSRU. Awesome! However, you'll need to select the program icon then press and hold the "Shift" key before
double-clicking every time you want to run it, to by-pass the pre-configured expiration. Initially, you may need to double-click the selected icon a second time while depressing the Shift key if you do it this way. Another method is to hold down the Shift key, right-click the icon and select "Open". You'll be most interested in the Benchmark tab, and the Server selection capability which is available through clicking the DNSRU icon at the top left of the opened program. Remember, this is still an unfinished Research and Development tool, so some
functions are not enabled. Note: The file available here is the same file as the DNSRU from Steve Gibson.
JonesSoft Icon Extractor is a freely distributed icon capturing utility, and was used to produce the Download Icons for this page, for one example.
