  2. Site Guide updates were begun. To be completed Feb 9th on Fred's return from holidays
  3. The club will meet again in the next three weekends to further discuss agena items in particular the proposed XC Encampment holiday planned for this July.
  4. Simon Mitchell will reinstate the charitable status of Acrophobia, the parent regional association for Kootenay clubs.
  5. Regional pilots promised to re-instate regularly scheduled meetings at times and locations advertized in local newspapgers and on Shaw Cable. (Free services.)
  6. The club was reminded that in the past 24 years, there has not been one single application (other than for Mt 7) for BCHPA Site Development and Preservation Funding, worth $ 45% + - of costs for the Northern BC, Rocky Mt Trench, Revelstoke and Kootenays "region", subject to BCHPA approval.

  7. April 2009: Re BCHPA site development funding.
    - The HPAC insured members in Kootenays shows about 30 + insured members in the Kootenays and Revelstoke area.  At $15 a pop that is $450 revenue to the BCHPA - Every Year that you guys have never collected a cent on. To that add another 20 or so members in the Golden - Cranbrook valley.

The BCHPA gets about $5000 a year in provincial member dues from the HPAC. Only a pittance goes out each year other than site development funding... and money not spent just goes into reserves. (Financial reserves are useful - emergency funding, if the HPAC folds or can't get insurance "BC" could go it alone - this sort of thing.) There is no set funding allotment per region any more now that we have reduced from 8 regions to 5. BCHPA will consider any site funding requests, and if approved will reimburse costs.

On Thu, April/9/2009, Rob Samplonius BCHPA Treasurer <rob.samplonius@shaw.ca> wrote:
"Usually we max out at 50% of the  total cost so for example if you need a new HG ramp at a site that a lot of pilots from around BC using it, and you only have 55% of the money the BCHPA can chip in the rest, provided we're informed of it in advance, it has broad pilot  support, and you've figured out every cost saving thing that you can do to spend the money effieciently."

From Margit Nance on the WCSC Forum today:
"Our sites are our sport's most valuable assets and their preservation and improvement the BCHPA's highest priority. Please send the current Executive your local projects. More on this in another posting."| "The BCHPA AGM will be held APRIL 25, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Blue Heron Pub (private room upstairs) 7673 Okanagan Landing Road, Vernon, BC"

This program was set up decades ago, with money distrubuted + - equally between all the regions. That means Van Isle, WCSC and Okanagan deliberately intended to re-allocate money generated from their area to less populated, more needy areas of the province. LIKE YOU GUYS. So, believe it or not, it pisses us off that you perpetually fail to take up this up. The caviate is it has to be a club expense, with submitted reciepts except if there is no club in the region. Best to get projects pre-approved by your regional Director - Alan Polster. For contact info see http://www.bchpa.ca/

What work needs to be done? Off hand:
    1. A monster radial ramp, suitable for PGers for Slocan Ridge is one proposal. (See the Thedford Mines PQ Paraglider ramp below.)
    2. Putting an upper access road into Lemon Creek Lookout would re-open that site.
    3. Future logging (proposed by the Slocan logging coalition) should result in a Nth facing launch on Slocan Ridge overlooking the Pedro Creek access Road.
    4. A new site between Ymir and Salmo is planned

    Any others?

From: PeteSLS <pedro158@yahoo.com> BCHPA Regional Director, Okanagan.      Date: Thu, 09 Apr 2009
"Fred, All the Kootenays site improvements listed would be considered and most likely approved for funding by BCHPA."
