NAME
The
name of
this organization shall be The Alberta Association of Therapeutic
Masseurs
(hereinafter referred to as AATM)
THE
OBJECTIVES FOR WHICH THIS SOCIETY IS FORMED ARE:
To foster
the spirit of cooperation, the exchange of ideas and techniques among
members, to advance the science and art of massage therapy to benefit
mankind.
To keep
our conduct and character unquestionable of integrity and above
reproach, to work and cooperate with all other healing professionals.
To
appoint a board of directors comprised of health care professionals and
other experienced, qualified individuals who are active members of the
association to;
determine
competence of persons wishing to be certified as qualified Therapeutic
Massage Practitioners with this association and will have authority to
set competency exams for registration with AATM,
guide
the practice of the members and to integrate therapeutic massage into
the health care profession.
To
organize and encourage educational seminars on an ongoing basis and
provide an opportunity for members to associate with each other as well
as other health care professionals.
To
recognize the limitations of massage therapy and not diagnose or
prescribe for bodily infirmities.
To be
fully aware and encouraging of education to the public of the
usefulness of massage therapy as to advance the science and art of
massage therapy to merit the respect and confidence of all people.
To
promote the establishment and maintenance of standards for Professional
excellence in the education and practice of therapeutic massage.
To
recognize and respect all ethical practitioners and comply with
prescriptions for referred cases, unless otherwise modified by mutual
agreement.
To
provide through purchase, rent or lease suitable property for the
membership to carry out the objectives of the society.
A)
“Massage
Therapist”
is a person who practices the science and art of the
manipulations
of the
soft tissues of the body.
B)
“Code of
Ethics”
refers to the AATM standards of practice for massage
therapists.
C)
Special
Resolution”
is as defined in the Societies Act which requires:
1.
A
quorum
present;
21
days prior notice by phone, or in writing, to members; and
¾
(75%) vote of the members present and voting. |
